Hello, I'm a judge from the Magazine's contest leaving a very late comment. I do apologise!

I really liked this piece! It's got a simplicity about it that makes it hard to read and hard not to like the characters! But wow, Josh aims big! Compliment someone every day of the year? That has got to be really hard to do, especially to someone you don't know. I mean, talking to someone that you don't know on the street is strange enough but giving them a compliment is just downright weird. But good on him for setting a resolution that gives benefits to others.

Having it start at new years and then end at new years is a great way to bring this round full circle, especially with how Josh almost forgets to complete his resolution for that day. Then having Jack's resolution be to work up the nerve to kiss Josh was just adorable, and pretty much the perfect way to end this piece.

This was a lovely read!

CRYIN THAT WAS ADORABLE

I'm here as a judge for the Magazine contest!

What I like the most about this story is the way that you write. You've got this wonderful, yet simple, way of describing things and it really does the story absolute justice. You don't leave anything out, but you're not being overly-flowery with descriptions which I think given the story plot itself would just be too much. You've got this wonderfully human way of describing all of the characters, right down from Josh and Jack's interactions to the rest of the party. I can definitely imagine this entire scene playing out in my head.

I think the idea of complimenting someone every day for a year is a huge ask, so I'm really impressed that Josh was able to do so! I loved the little interaction at the end as well -- that was really sweet and I love that both of their resolutions kind of overlapped in a way towards the end. The little bout of humour at the very end from Jack was really lovely as well; it kind of broke up this adorable scene and left everything on an overall positive tone.

I don't think I noticed anything that was needing to be pointed out grammar / spelling-wise, and I have absolutely nothing to offer in terms of constructive criticism. This was an awesome piece, good job!
