Emilee

Forty Three

I'd decided not to worry Max with my thoughts of Anna. Where was she? What was she up to? She’d be pretty angry with us, seeing as Ronnie was in jail now. Bryan dropped his amp causing a loud bang to echo throughout Max’s garage. I jumped several feet, earning stares from everyone in the room.

“Honey, are you okay?” Max asked, coming up behind me. He rested his head on my shoulder. “You’ve been pretty edgy lately.”

“I’m fine.” He was silent for a while. I could somehow tell he was frowning at me.

“I’ll talk to you tonight when the guys are gone. You can tell me anything Emilee.” He kissed me on the cheek then headed over to help set up. The boys had decided to follow through with their idea of a band, and today was their first practice.

“Okay! Everyone ready?” Max had written a song, and the guys were gonna attempt to play it. If the rest of the guys were as good as Max was at playing, they’d be one of the best local bands I’d heard. Craig burst out on vocals screaming and the guys played along with him. They were amazing.

As the guys were packing up there was a knock at the door. Max didn’t have any other friends, and his parents both had keys.

“I’ll get it,” I announced, as the guys seemed pretty busy. I wasn’t even sure if they’d heard the light knocking. I walked out to the hall and opened the door, faced with someone I’d only seen in dreams.

“Hello Emilee,” Anna said, staring at her shoes. I was frozen. This girl was gonna try to kill me, and I was defenceless. I tried to run but found her hand on my shoulder, keeping me in place. I was compelled to stay. “I’m sorry about all of this...”

“I...wait what?”

“I’m sorry.” She looked up at me, and I saw her apologetic eyes through her hair. She was quite pretty. “This got way outta hand, and I'm sorry.” I wasn’t sure what to say, as I wasn’t sure that I believed her. She can’t be serious.

“We put your lover behind bars,” I muttered. “How can you be so nice all of a sudden?” Her expression altered for a split second. For that second, I again though I was gonna die by her hand.

“Perhaps he deserved it.” She smiled. “I hope we can put this past us and become friends.” There was something in her smile that made me want to trust her. I smiled back, unable to control it.

“Sure, I guess. Come in.” I figured this should be explained to the guys. They stopped what they were doing as she entered the room with me.

“Who’s this?” Max asked with a kind smile.

“This is Anna...” I couldn’t finish my sentence, as everyone began screaming at me the instant her name rolled off my tongue.

“The same Anna that should be trying to kill us!?” Max yelled.

“She said she’s sorry,” I murmured.

“Get the fuck outta my house!” Max yelled at her. When he realised she wasn’t moving he stomped past her and to the door, opening it wide. “Now!” She calmly walked up to him and placed her hand on his shoulder.

“I’m sorry Max.” His glare faltered briefly. In that time, her words managed to seep to his heart. “I’ve come in hope that we can all just be friends.”

“Friends with a vampire?” Robert scoffed.

“I’m hardly unusual. I’m not very dangerous, if that’s what you’re worried about. I can barely open a jar, never mind kill someone.” The guys all exchanged cautious glances.

“I guess we can give you a chance Anna,” Max said quietly. “But this doesn’t excuse what you’ve put us all, particularly my Emilee, through.”

“That’s all I ask for, a chance to find forgiveness in you all.” She smiled at us all and most smiled in return. Craig was completely blank. She walked past Max and through the front door with grace, closing it behind her.

“This is weird,” Craig said. “I don’t trust her.”

“I think we should give her a fair chance...” Max started.

“She attacked your girlfriend Max,” Craig said bitterly. “I thought you’d be completely against her.”

“She doesn’t look like she’d hurt a fly. Ronnie on the other hand...”

“Ronnie is a cunt. I don’t like this girl.” He got up and headed for the door. “I’m leaving before this gets out of hand.” The other guys followed soon after. I wandered up to Max’s room, hearing his footsteps behind me. His arms wrapped around me as he kissed my neck.

“I love you Emilee,” he whispered. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too.” I turned around to face him.

“I know this girl has done wrong by you, but I think she seems trustworthy, don’t you?” I nodded, agreeing. She truly did. I leaned up to kiss Max’s lips, and melted as he hugged me tight.
