‹ Prequel: Everything I'm Not

Love's Requiem

The Scientist

After I was settled in, Jack and I made coffee and sat in the kitchen where he prompted me to spill everything on the trip.

“Okay where do I start?” I asked more myself than him, as I was hiding my hands under the table. “Bilic was even more cooler than I thought he would be.”

“That’s great I want the dirt on you and Niko!”

“Okay,” I sighed, as I closed my eyes and held out my left hand.

“You got engaged?” He shouted.

“Maybe?” I squeaked out, squinting through one eye.

“Congratulations!” He exclaimed tackling me to the floor hugging me again. “You two are …good together.”

“That’s all you got?” I asked him.

“Team Alex all the way, but if you’re happy with Niko I’m happy for you both.” He told me sincerely.

“Thank you,” I told him, sitting up and hugging him. “Niko’s it Jack, I can feel it.”

“Okay,” He nodded as he helped me up and I went on to tell him everything.

After we I was unpacked, and finally able to shower I changed in to a purple sweater and black tights before we headed out to my parents for dinner and for me to break the news to them as well that night.

“Bella!” My mom exclaimed hugging me as she opened the door. “You look good.” She added.

“Ma this is Jack he’s in Alex’s band.” I said introducing the two.

“Jesus Bella you’re mom’s a stone cold fox.” Jack exclaimed as my mom shook his hand.

“It’s nice to finally meet the woman Bella’s always yelling at over her cell phone.”

“It’s nice to finally meet the man who pushed my daughter off a dinosaur.” My mom joked.

I think Jack might have developed a crush on my mom, because while I helped her finish dinner he decided to stay in the kitchen and try to be useful, instead of watching TV with my dad like every other guy friend or boyfriend I’ve brought home before.

“So Isabella how was Russia, and please give Niko my compliments he played amazing.”
My dad began while we all sat down to eat dinner.

“It was really great, once I get the pictures uploaded I’ll send them to you.” I smiled, as I went in to telling them all about my trip.

When everyone had finished eating and it seemed like the four of us were just sitting around the table talking Jack nudged me indicating I was forgetting one little detail about the trip out.

“Oh and I almost forgot!” I exclaimed making Jack shake his head.

“What is it Isabella?” My dad asked.

“Something else happened on my trip,” I began, “Niko, asked me to marry him.” I said showing them the ring.

My dad smiled and jumped up hugging me tightly, telling me how happy he was repeatedly, meanwhile I could tell my mom wasn’t so enthused but was trying to hide it.

“Mom, do you want me marrying Niko?” I asked her while we were doing the dishes.

“Of course, Niko’s a good boy. He loves you.” She said half-heartedly.

“But,” I coaxed her.

“But, I liked Alex. Yes he’s not Hrvati but there was something about him, I knew in my heart
I would never have to worry about you not being happy with him.”

“And you don’t feel that way about Niko?”

“I do it’s just, where will you live England all winter, Croatia in the summer? What about your life here Bella your career your friends? All that will be lost.”

“Maybe he’s worth losing all that for?”

“Then bless the both of you.” She told me, “But only you can answer that.”

“Why so down brown cow?” Jack asked me while I was driving home later on that night.

“Eh conversation I had with my mom.” I said trying to shake it off, and the feeling I now had in my gut.

“Want to talk about it?”

“Nah, it was nothing.” I lied.

“Alrighty, so now I think we need to discuss how you never told me your mom was that hot.” He began.

“Ew”

“Seriously, I’ll be a great step dad to you.”

“Jack my dad would kill you.”

“It might be worth it.”

“I think I’m going to be sick.” I chuckled shaking my head.
