A Father's Death

One, single tear escaped her eye as she sat against the headboard of her bed, hugging her legs tightly to her chest. Her forehead rested heavily on her knees. She thought she'd exhausted her supply of tears for the day, but apparently she had enough devastation to eke out one more. The sudden creaking of her bedroom door preceded her bed sinking at the weight of someone beside her.

A strong arm wrapped around her shoulders as a head rested on hers. "I'm sorry," the gentle, comforting voice of her husband whispered in her ear.
