Bert is trapped in a secret affair with Gerard, and isn't even sure Gerard loves him anymore.
However, leaving Gerard would bring their secret into the limelight...
Gerard still drinks. Bert still does the drugs. But is this worth the heartache Bert is suffering?

Will he carry on suffering to save the person he loves? Or is the need for self preservation more important?

    MOST CRUCIAL CHAPTER so is quite long indeed. - Bert tries to cope with the guilt of knowing he has caused Gerard so much pain...Gerard turns to self loathing...Bert comes to the rescue again. But is Gerard the one who really needs rescuing?
