Dying Doesn't Seem So Cruel

Beginning the Plans

"Please tell me you don't believe Jacob's stupid story," I asked of Christie as we sat on her bed, waiting for my ride.

"I'm not sure. Why else would the Cullens be extremely gorgeous?"

"Because they're blessed."

"What does it matter?"

"I guess it doesn't. Well, there's Edward. Bye, Christie."

"See you later."

"So you went on the reservation?" Emmett inquired while I got ready for bed.

"Yes."

"But why?"

"Kyle told me that Jacob had some stories to tell us."

"Go take a shower."

"Excuse me?"

"You smell."

"Thanks, Emmett. Thanks a lot."

After a long bath, I crawled into my bed and covered up with the thick comforter. Emmett's face fell when I scooted away from his embrace.

"Dahlia, I'm sorry. But Alice told us she couldn't see you, and it worried me."

"So you tell me I smell?"

"You did. The mutt's odor was all over you. It covered your smell."

"Why do you call him a mutt?"

"Think about it. He's part of the Quileute tribe. They're 'wolves.'"

"Jacob's a werewolf?"

"Yes."

"Oh, that makes sense."

"Dahlia? I missed you terribly."

"So did I."

The kiss then was deeper, more passionate, than any we'd ever shared. I was shocked by the force behind it; he pulled away moments later and smiled at me.

"Good-night, beautiful."

"So have you thought about bridesmaids and a maid of honour?" Esme asked a week later as we all sat around the dining table.

I paused, the fork halfway between my mouth and the plate in front of me. "Well, sort of, kind of, maybe. I know I want Alice and Christie up there with me."

"As bridesmaids?"

"Yeah, I'm thinking so, but I'm not entirely sure yet."

"And, Emmett, have you thought about your groomsmen?"

"Duh. Edward and Jasper."

"Don't 'duh' your parents," I chided teasingly; he kissed me.

"I'm sorry."

"I still need time to think about who's going to be my maid of honour and stuff."

"Take your time."

"Esme, would you like to be in charge of decorating?"

"Of course."

I was sure, had she been able to, she would be crying from joy.
