The Crimson

chapter 3

“I’ll have a cone with mint chocolate chip. And could I also have rainbow sprinkles.” The man behind the counter nodded his head and grabbed a cone. “Oh and can I have gummy bears to.” I added quickly.
Aidan laughed at me.
“And for you sir” the man asked while pouring sprinkles and gummy bears over my ice cream.
“I’ll have the same.”
The man nodded and handed me my ice cream and started to make Aidan’s.
The top of my ice cream started to fall. I caught it with my mouth and licked the ice cream running down the cone. I looked up to see Aidan looking at me with a smirk on his face. He let out a laugh.
“What?” I asked taking another lick of my ice cream.
“You got a little on you.” He said pointing to his cheek.
Embarrassed, I wiped my cheek quickly with my hand.
He laughed again. “Other cheek.”
I wiped my other cheek sure I got it off. “All good?”
“No” he smiled. “Let me do it.” He reached toward my face and gently brushed his hand against my cheek. “I got it.” He said as his hand stayed on me for an extra second. He pulled away quickly. I felt my cheeks get hot.
“Here sir.” The man said handing him his ice cream.
I took out five dollars I had in my pocket. I always kept money in my pocket just in case I ever need it. I handed the man the money. Then in a second it was back in my hand.
“No that’s okay. I’ll pay.” I said handing the money back.
““No, I got it” he said.
“You sure.”
“What kind of guy would I be if I let you pay?”
I smiled. “Thanks.” And I put my money back in my pocket.
We walked outside after Aidan paid the man.
Silently we walked down the road. We ate our ice cream.
“Want to sit down.” He said as we came across a bench.
“Sure.” I said as we sat down.
It was quiet as we both ate our ice cream.
“So… How do you like our school?” I asked breaking the silence.
“It’s all right. I don’t know many people though.”
“Yeah I know how that feels. I was the new kid a couple years ago. I didn’t have many friends at first. But everyone’s really nice. I’m sure you’ll meet people.”
“Well I’m happy I meet you.”
I don’t know why but him saying that made the blood rush to my cheeks. I turned away quickly so he wouldn’t see and took a bit of my ice cream.
He started to laugh.
He was probably laughing at me. Well I know he was laughing at me. We were the only ones around who else could he be laughing at. He probably saw my cheeks flush red and thought it was funny that him just saying something as simple as ‘I’m happy I meet you’ could turn my face the color a ripe tomato.
After a minute and I was sure my face was back to its normal pale color, he was still laughing.
“What?”
He smiled. “You got a little ice cream on you again.”
“No I don’t.” I said. I was pretty sure I didn’t get any more on me. I was eating it carefully making sure nothing missed my mouth after last time to save myself from embarrassment.
“Yea.” He laughed.
“No.”
“Yes.” He said as his smiling face turned grave.
I suddenly believed him. I must have not paid attention for a second and my cone slipped across my face. At least he had the decency to tell me it was on my face. And not let my find out later when I looked at my reflection in my bathroom mirror. Then I would have been really embarrassed and probably wouldn’t be able to look him in the face without blushing like a mad man.
I wiped my face repeatedly.
“Would you like me to get it for you again?”
“Please.”
He moved his hand in slowly. Then at the last second almost to quickly for me to see. He switched hands and his cone landed right on my face. He started to laugh. I was in shock for a moment that he had actually did that. Then a smile spread across my face.
“Well so do you.” I said shoving my ice cream cone in his face. Smack in the middle right on top of his nose. I started cracking up. The cone had stayed on his nose, making him look like a clown. Rainbow colors from the sprinkles started to drip down his face.
“Oh you shouldn’t have done that.” He said with a smirk and I couldn’t help but laugh louder.
“I’m sorry.” I said as I started to calm down.
He smiled. “Yeah you should be.”
“You started it.” I grabbed a napkin and wiped my face.
“Yeah, I guess I deserved that.” He started to laugh and I couldn’t help but join him.
I graced my hand over my face. Most the ice cream was gone.
Aidan started to wipe his face to. He had had a lot more on him then me, especially since my whole cone went into his face.
“Let me help you.” I said as our laugher died down. I took a napkin and started to wipe his cheek. With me helping it was almost gone.
He licked his lips. “At least I taste minty fresh now.”
I smiled.
“You have a beautiful smile.” He told me.
Embarrassed, I tried to keep my keep from turning red.
He jumped up and extended his hand to mine. “Come on let’s get out of here, it’s getting late.”
...

“Thanks for tonight.” I said as we got back to the party were my car was. So I guess I’ll see you around.” I opened my car door and sat down. I started to close the door when he grabbed it.
“Wait.” He said. “I had a good time today.”
“Yeah me to.”
“I haven’t had gone out with anyone in a while, it feels like decades. I had a lot of fun. Can I see you tomorrow?” He asked.
“Yeah, I’d like that.”
“Me too.”
I quickly grabbed a pen lying on the floor of my car. I grabbed his hand. He looked at me curiously. I smiled and wrote my number on his hand. “I don’t usually do this.”I looked up at him.”So I’ll be expecting a call.”
“Definitely.”
There was a silence between us, but it wasn’t awkward. It was nice.
“Well, I should be going.”
“Yeah. Goodnight.”
“Bye.” I said as I closed the door and started to drive away. I turned my head and saw Aidan . He was still standing on the side of the road. He waved.
