The "Family" Secret

Frank

It was a Monday, the Monday that I went back to school. Pete was coming with me, he said “Well, Ryan is boring, and I would be here alone all day, I might as well go with you?” I knew that we just wanted to be with me, he probably was somewhat scared for what I might get into these days.
“School is in 2 minutes and you still have to check in!” Ryan yelled up the stairs. He cooked breakfast, even though we couldn't eat, he thought it would be funny. I grabbed my laptop and knocked on Pete's door. “Ready?” I asked, Pete then opened the door and we both ran downstairs. I gave Ryan a kiss on the cheek, and we ran to school in seconds.
We walked in those big blue doors not knowing what to expect. The office was right there on your right when you walked in. Ryan had made papers that had our fake last names, which he made “Cullen”, he thought that we would be more interesting that way. “Hello.” the lady in the office said once we handed her our papers. “Good morning.” I responded, Pete didn't say anything, he just smiled. She stamped our papers, and wrote something on the bottom then filed them. She then grabbed another paper out of another drawer, and handed them to each of us. “These are you're class times, make sure your never late for class, might get detention.” she said with a smile, she obviously thought that we were good kids. Pete and I glanced at our schedule's, we both had the same classes, except I had Physical Education one period when he had Spanish. We both ran to our lockers, got our books from the library, and headed to our first class together.
First class was Science, we both knew everything that was in the book, and maybe even more then the teacher knew. I walked in the door first, taking a deep breath. Pete put his hand on my shoulder, “Look.” he whispered and pointed to the kids. Almost every teenager in the room had a “Twilight” shirt. I gasped. “This is going to be fun.” I whispered back. We took our seats in the only ones open in the back of the classroom. The bell rang and everyone became silent. A cheerful voice came through the speakers. “Hello, and good morning, it is now time for the daily announcements!” Almost everyone in the class sighed. “Today for lunch is the usual... boring... tator tots, ham and cheese sandwich, milk, and the salad bar. Don't forget to bring food for the dance next month, the day before Christmas. Get in your slips for the field trip to the Cascades by the 19th, if you don't turn them in then you get to stay at school and take gum off of the tables... and no one wants to do that now do they. Have a great day!” and the intercom became silent.
“Please open your books and open to page 100, we are learning about Newtons Laws.” Some people opened their books, and some just stared back at Pete and I. People started whispering and laughing; it got the teachers attention. “Class, what might be so funny that I can't know about.” he barked. Everyone that was laughing stopped, but still looked at Pete and I. The teacher noticed that they were looking, and laughing at us. “Ooh, um, please come and give me your slips please.” he said, looking at Pete and I. I looked over at Pete, and grinned. We both grabbed our slips, and then handed them to the teacher. “Cullen's, I see. Pete and Nicole?” I heard everyone behind us gasp. “Correct.” I said. I smiled and he motioned for us to sit back down. “Now I assume that you already have your books?” I nodded and he continued with the lesson. “This is going to be fun.” Pete thought. "Just wait until we have class transition.”
We both sat there, being stared at, reading what we have read many times. We didn't care that people were staring at us, I was just glad that I remembered to put my contacts in that morning. The class period we stayed quiet. People still stared and I let out a sigh when the bell rang. Everyone jumped up and ran out the door, Pete and I stood there, staring. Eventually the room was empty and we walked to our lockers, they were right next to each other. I could feel people staring at Pete and I. I looked to my right and there was standing a boy. He was different then everybody else at the school, I just couldn't tell what it was. He realized I was staring at him, and casually turned around and walked away. “Pete, did you see that kid?” I asked, closing my locker. He was rummaging through his books, and didn't even noticed I said anything. I sighed and walked to the next class.
I walked in the classroom with my head down. I took my seat and noticed everyone staring at me. There were a group of boys standing in a circle on the front of the class. They would periodically look over at me then look away. Eventually one of the boys walked over and stood in front of my desk, and slammed his hands on the desk. I looked in his eyes, my face was blank. He didn't say anything, he just stared. He kept his mind blank until right before he turned away. “She's not that good looking.” he whispered to his group of friends when he was back in the circle. I sighed and shook my head. Pete then walked in and the boys got quiet. Pete stood in the doorway and stared at the boys like they were crazy, “I think that they're jealous of my good looks” he said as he sat next to me. I rolled my eyes and continued to watch the circle of boys laugh. I felt something touch my right shoulder, I gasped and turned my head, no one was there. I shook my head, and tuned to Pete. “So everything good, no one jumped you in the hallway did they?” I said sarcastically. He snickered, “Nope, and lucky nobody did. They would've been dead in a second.” The teacher walked in and everybody sat down. “I see we have new students?” he said as he set his pile of books down on his front desk. I looked up and nodded. “Well introduce yourselves.” I stood up, “My names Nicole... Cullen,” I motioned for Pete to stand up, “And this is Pete, my brother.” Pete stuck up his hand and did a little wave. The teacher smiled, “Thank you, it's glad to have you at our school.” Pete and I sat down. The the boy from the hallway walked in. The teacher gave him a stern look, and motioned for him to sit down. “Your late, that means you get to stay after school with me... again.” The boy just looked down and sat in the only empty seat, which was right in front of me. I put my feet off of the chair. He stared at me while he sat down, I just stared back. “There's something about him Pete, he's different.” I thought as I stared at the back of his head. “I noticed that too, what do you think it is?” I shook my head. “I don't know, but we need to find out.” The teacher put on a movie about the Aborigines, and projected it on the overhead. I didn't pay attention, I just stared at him, wondering what it was about him. I was attracted to him, it wasn't his looks. It was something else. Different then Micheal. The movie was over and the teacher asked questions and told us to write the answers on a piece of paper. I already knew the answers, it didn't matter if I had watched the movie or not. I was writing so hard that my pencil broke. “Dammit.” I mumbled under my breath. I threw my pencil to the ground. “Excuse me, can I help you.” the teacher asked. I looked up and everyone was looking at me, except for the boy. “I'm sorry, my pencil broke.” I said, glancing at the pencil on the ground, in pieces from it's impact to the ground. “Well Frank can loan you one.” he said pointing to the boy in front of me. I immediately looked back at the boy, “Frank” Frank turned around, looked me in the eyes and set down the pencil in front of me, making not even the slightest sound. He continued to look at me, I finally looked up. I gasped. His eyes were a deep red, almost black. “Thank you.” I whispered, he nodded and turned back around. “Now let's continue, shall we?” the teacher said, and he continued asking questions. “Did you see his eyes?” I asked Pete. He didn't respond. I turned towards Pete. “Pete?” He didn't reply, his mind was all fogged up. “He saw.” I immediately turned straight in my seat and looked at Frank, like I had just seen a ghost. "And now you both know.”
