The Perfect Smile

Wanna bet on it?

Maddy smiled walking in the front door of Arkham. She had a really great morning and she knew that she had to work the evening shift tonight, she just hoped things went fairly well. She clocked in and walked down the hallway only to be stopped by her father. She had actually started talking to him but she still didn't trust him, and she let him know that.

Joe: Madeline, I don't think you should be working today.
Maddy: And why is that?
Joe: I just think you deserve a day off.
Maddy: Uhm, Had off yesterday.

Joe knew that they was going to assign Maddy to the Joker, and he didn't want his daughter to even look at that man. He knew that she had been around him before, and was scared for the safely of his daughter. But his boss told him that since they was short staffed right now, and since she was the best CNA she had to be on the job. She assured him that nothing would happen to her since there was many guards around him once again.

Maddy walked down the hallway and was met by Janette, who was probably going to tell her, her chores for the day. She smiled at and hoped that she wasn't going to give her a horrible job to do today.

Janette: Madeline, we would like for you to go down to room 311 and take care of the patient. You'll need to convince him to shower and things. He may have a few scratches that need attention.

Maddy only nodded and was on her day down the hallway. She knew that the 300's where the high security part of Arkham and she wondered who she would be attending to. She couldn't help but think of Jack, and how that was the first time she had met him. Walking down that hallway bright goosebumps and memories. She passed by a few of the rooms and then rolled her eyes seeing guards standing out of the room she'd be going into. Once she showed them her card they moved away from the door allowing her entrance. She walked in and closed the door behind her before even looking at the patient. When she turned around her mouth dropped, as well as his.

She stood there for a minute just looking at him. He was dirty, much like the first time she had saw him here. His make-up was worn in some places and he looked as if he had a few scratches on his face, not any serious ones though. She wondered what he done to get in this place again.

He couldn't believe that they had actually assigned her to him. He just assumed that maybe he would catch a glimpse of her in the hallway when he went to shower. He never thought he would be this close to her. She still looked as beautiful as ever to him. Her hair fell down in loose bouncy curls around her face, and her make-up was flawless. She was still just as beautiful as the last day he had saw her. He swallowed hard seeing her just standing there looking at him. She hadn't moved, her eyes were still glued on him.

Closing her eyes and sighing loudly she walked out of the room, and off to get a bowl of water and some things to clean his scratches with. She had to admit that her heart dropped to the pits of her stomach when she saw him. She was shaking as she poured water into the bowl. She didn't know if she could do this or not. She didn't know if she could be this close to him, after what had happened. Sure, most people wouldn't expect a person take it this hard, but he had actually broke her heart.

He looked up seeing the door knob turn and saw her walk in with a bowl of water and some towels, much like she did the first day she he saw her. She walked over slowly as set up on the small bed. He looked at her never taking his eyes away from hers. He watched as she set the bowl down on the ground and dipped the cloth in it and began to bring it up to his face. He once again moved his head away not wanting his make-up to be removed. He didn't like people seeing him without it much, especially in here. It was part of his act. Would a sane person wear clown make-up caked on their face? No, the make-up just screamed insanity and that's what he was here.. insane.

Maddy: I need to wash your face.
Joker: No, you don't.

She rolled her eyes and sighed loudly almost ready to just walk out. She wasn't in the mood to deal with him. She attempted a few more times to wash his face clean of the make up, but he just moved away again. Tossing the cloth back into the bowl she gave up and just looked at him. The door knob turned and she guided her attention over to the door and saw Janette standing there, the elderly woman waved her over. She stepped outside with her and over to the corner.

Janette: Ok Madeline. I just wanted to tell you that we're having a problem with the cameras right now in this department. They're having to order a special part for our system and it won't be in until next week, so if you need to take a guard inside that room while you do your job you may.
Maddy: I think I'll be fine.
Janette: Are you sure?
Maddy: I'll be fine.
Janette: Ok sweetie. Please be careful, I'm so sorry I didn't tell you sooner but Cindy just informed me they went out just an hour ago.
Maddy: It's fine, Janette.

Janette walked away letting her heels click again the floor. Maddy knew that Jack had probably done that to the cameras, so no one could see their actions or hear them talk. She sighed stepping back inside the room, slamming the door behind her.

Maddy: Why the cameras?
Joker: I didn't do it.
Maddy: Of course you didn't.. but you was behind it.
Joker: Of course, Princess.
Maddy: Don't call me that.
Joker: and why not? Got a boyfriend that will get mad?
Maddy: It makes me mad.

She said walking over and grabbing the cloth back out of the water and pressing it against his face. He surprisingly didn't move away this time. He let her remove each and every ounce of make-up that covered his skin. She also reached up and cleaned some of the scratches that covered his face. He hadn't spoke a word in over five minutes and neither had she.

Joker: Just gonna give me the cold shoulder, Princess?
Maddy: You're the one who wanted nothing to do with me.
Joker: Maddy.
Maddy: No Jack. You wanted nothing to do with me.

He cringed at her saying his name. He hadn't heard it since the last time she had said it and he couldn't help but miss it, even though he and she both knew that she shouldn't be saying it, especially not here.

Maddy: Well, I'm all done here.

She said picking her bowl off the ground, she was ready to get out of here.

Joker: Where are you going?
Maddy: I have work to do.
Joker: I am your work.
Maddy: Actually, no. I have other patients to attend to.
Joker: Aren't you suppose to clean all my scratches and shit?
Maddy: I did.
Joker: Nope.

He said pushing up his left sleeve revealing a gash in his arm. She looked at him with wide eyes, not knowing how he could tolerate that much pain. She knew it would scar his arm. He had scars all over though. Most of his chest and back was covered in them, not to mention a few on his legs and even his arms. She walked over and placed the bowl back on the ground and got on her knees she brought the cloth up to his arm and whipped away the dried blood. He looked down on her and couldn't believe that she was touching him. Her hands felt so soft. He remembered back to the times they shared at his house and how she touched him there. Closing his eyes he remembered her rubbing her finger over his stomach, which drove him insane.

Maddy: I think you need stitches, I'm going to go get an RN
Joker: You can do it.
Maddy: No, I'm not licensed to do it.
Joker: (pause) How's school going?
Maddy: Year left.

The conversation was kept short. She put some anti bacterial cleaner on his cut, hoping that it would heal. She wrapped a tight bandage around it. She just hoped that it healed without the stitches. Even though she was well aware of how to stitch a person up, she knew that she would get in trouble for doing it.

Joker: Fuck Maddy, talk to me. I fucking came here to see you!
Maddy: What?
Joker: I fucking got caught so I could see you.
Maddy: Why would you do a dumb ass thing like that?
Joker: I just wanted to see you.
Maddy: You know where I live.
Joker: And you wouldn't have shot me if I came there?
Maddy: I probably would've punched you in the jaw, but shoot you, no.
Joker: You can't reach my jaw.

She laughed, not believing that he was joking at a time like this. She couldn't help but let his smile wash away all of the anger that she's had inside for five months. She wanted to talk to him more, she wanted to know why he done it, she wanted to know everything.

Maddy: and how do you plan on escaping?
Joker: I'll escape tonight.
Maddy: Whatever, you just got here.
Joker: Wanna bet on it?
Maddy: Why'd you even come here if you're just gonna escape five hours later.
Joker: Cause I seen you, now I can leave.
Maddy: That's all you wanted, was to see me?
Joker: Yeah.
Maddy: Nothing else?
Joker: Nope.

She smirked at him for a second, he raised his eyebrow in confusion. She knew what she was about to do was dangerous. She knew that if anyone walked in then she would be fired, not to mention probably locked away in here herself, but she wanted to, she had to. She leaned close and pressed her lips closely against his. Just as he was about to deepen it, she backed away.

Maddy: You just wanted to see me, remember?

She said walking away with a smile winking at him. He laughed for a second and noticed she was about to leave the room.

Joker: Princess.
Maddy: Hm?
Joker: Tell the guards, I'm ready.

She scrunched up her eyebrows in confusion but as she walked out she looked at the guards as they smiled a bit and she whispered lightly to them that he's ready, figuring that they're probably working for him and are the way he's going to break out. She had to admit, he was pretty genius getting himself in here just to see her. Making sure the camera's didn't work, and making sure that he had guards who worked for him. She just wondered if that'd be the last time she'd see him for another five months, she sure hoped not. She really didn't think she could handle not seeing him for that long. Seeing him today brought back ever feeling for him, and they was probably stronger now than ever before.
