Forbidden Temptation

The Family

"Seth, I really honestly don't believe you." Shane said flat out.
I rolled my eyes, "Well I'm ssssssssss-areeeeee-ey!"
"You took on a vampire...? And won?!"
"Shhhh!"
He ducked down in his airplane seat a bit, "I'm sorry but you gotta know how impossible that sounds."
"Well I had some help from another vampire but not too much... and I was half my size! I use to be pretty tiny now that I think of it."
He scrunched his lips to the side and adjusted Mindy who was squirming in his lap, "How big?"
I let my hand rest on my chin for dramatic affect. I liked to do this. "Probably about a fat bear size."
He chuckled, "Because that's just so small..."
I shrugged and tilted my head back with my eyes closed. There were some things I wanted to know.
"So Ally's name is Ally. It's not a nickname or anything?"
I could tell Shane shook his head even with my eyes closed, "Her name's Ally, people always think its short for Alexandria or something but it's not. Just Ally, short and to the point."
"What is she like? I mean how does she act?"
"Um, well, lately she acts like mom— well like my mom. I guess she sorta has too. Ya know, since it's just us. Naw, I remember Ally use to be a real badass. Always being a teenage girl. I couldn't wait till I got to hit that phase. The one where you could get in trouble and your parents or anyone could blame it on being a teenager.
I looked down at his face. He looked so happy— so anxious. Then he sighed and shook his head just a little.
"But that was then."
"This won't be forever. I'll make sure of that."
He let his head tilt back like I did mine, even his eyes were closed.
"I like you Seth. I know you're tough but this is one fight you ain't goin' to win."
"Never say never."
He looked up at me like most people had to and raised his eyebrow, "I don't believe I did."
I smirked. He smirked. All that good Hallmark card crap.
One more stop and we'd be home.
----------------------------------
"Just wait here kid, keep an eye on your sister too." I instructed. I took a couple steps and then looked back, "Never mind. Come on."
Shane adjusted Mindy in his arms and fixed the bag onto his shoulder. Kid had strength, I'd give him that. Brave, too. We walked into the shabby, badly beaten by moody werewolves, house together.
"Emily? Sam?" I shouted into the house. "Don't stare, alright?" I instructed to Shane. He nodded.
Around the corner came Emily with a basket of laundry and a bright grin. "Seth, finally!" She swept over to us and set the basket aside on the floor. "May I?" She hinted towards Mindy.
Shane glanced at me for approval. I nodded as consent.
Emily took Mindy and placed her on her hip. "She's so beautiful, Mindy, right?"
"Yeah, I'm Shane." He responded.
"Of course, are you hungry? Don't tell me you ate on the plane, that's stuff is just a..." Her voice faded as she walked into the kitchen.
"Did she just rob my sister?" Shane asked a bit bewildered at Emily's motherly, comforting presence.
"Nah, she's just always been like that. She's the pack mother or at least that's what we like to think of her as."
"Tough chick," He muttered under his breath.
He had no idea.
"So her face..., what happened?" He tried to ask casually.
"Uh," I hesitated. I didn't want to freak him out more then he would be when Sam got home. "Well, she was in the path of an angry werewolf." Shane's eyes shifted a little, as if he couldn't believe the words being said. "I mean, a lot worse could have been done but obviously no one wants to hurt Emily. She's pretty great."
He exhaled a breath he kept inside for too long, "Are you positive I'm safe here?"
I couldn't help but scoff. He had a million miles distance away from the vampires, Ally willing to kill herself (unfortunately) for him and a whole pack of werewolves clearly capable of knocking out any vampire, surrounding him. There was no safer, better place then La Push.
"Positive," I assured him.
He bit his lip, "But are you-"
"Shane!" I groaned, "What can you possibly be worried about?"
He gave me an incredulous look, "You can not be serious? I have loads to worry about! LOADS MAN! Loads."
I let my hand rest on his shoulder as I guided him to his place on the couch in the living room. "Sorry, I know you have a lot to worry about but these people are family. They can be yours too if you try and see them as people and not werewolves."
He loosened his tense posture and sunk into the couch like a deflating balloon. "I'm just use to being in dangerous places is all. I haven't had 'safe' in a while."
I rolled my eyes, how innocent was this kid? I smiled, "You just wait till you meet the rest, you really won't have anything to worry about after that."
He smirked and went along with the happy joking mood I was trying to create, "Yeah, except for getting in an angry werewolf's way!" He chucked.
I couldn't help but join him in his laughter. His happiness was so contagious, especially after you've heard and witnessed how much he had suffered. You needed to be happy with him too. You had to share it.
"Trying to make fun of my fiancée, Seth?" I heard his voice and couldn't fight the possession he had over me.
"No Sam, just telling him old stories." I replied to my, now, new alpha... again.
He smiled, "I'm just messin' around with you, Seth. Those leeches have you all up tight." I smiled as I "man-hugged" Sam, one arm under the pit and the other slappin' the back. It was like sharing testosterone. "Congratulations on the imprint. Welcome to powerless love.
Sam glanced at Shane, "Aren't there suppose to be two of them?"
"Two of what?" Shane asked me.
"Yeah, two of what?" I asked Sam.
"Kids."
"Oh, Emily took her into the kitchen—talking about making food, er, something." Shane replied nonchalantly.
Sam sighed, "Emily's always wanted a kid. Don't tell me she's a baby." Sam almost begged.
"She's almost 2."
"Close enough...," He mumbled. "Great kid."
He huffed.
"What?" I asked him. He seemed annoyed.
He shrugged, "Everyone keeps callin' me a kid. I'm not a kid anymore. I'm a... I'm a... I'm, well, a teen."
Sam and I both grinned, "Alright, teen."
He rolled his eyes and mumbled something along the lines of 'not much better'.
"So, we'll be patrolling the borders keeping La Push safe, I don't know if we can protect Forks but I guess the main priority is here," Sam explained, "You staying?"
I faked a surprised face, "You're giving [i[me a choice? Wow, Sam. You're really getting good at this whole freedom thing."
He rolled his eyes, "Alright Leah," I grimaced. "Jacob and I have been talking, he's starting to rub off."
"Well, speaking of Leah—"
"Yeah, she knows about how you imprinted."
"And?"
"She's not too happy about you're choice."
I shook my head, "Like I had one?"
Sam put his arm around my shoulders, "Like any of us did?"
It felt nice to be home. The air for one did not reek of vampire, although the kid, I mean teen, didn't come smelling like roses. Also, I felt apart of something. The pack. To bad those strings that kept me here weren't as thick as the ones pulling me back to Italy. It was starting to hurt being away from her. I needed to see her. I'd risk everything and anything. Poor Romeo, for now I feel how you did. Whipped.
Out came Emily with her apron a bit out of alignment and Mindy placed on her hip with a smudge of what seemed to be chocolate on her cheek, "Who wants dinner and desert?"
Sam immediately went to Emily's side and gave her a hello-I'm-back kiss on the cheek. "You know you can't keep her." Sam sighed.
Emily sighed too, "I know. I'll make due with the time I'm given. Isn't that right, Mindy?" Mindy clapped her hands together and nodded.
"So I smell food and desert." Shane announced—disrupting the moment between replacement mother and faux daughter.
"And so do I," I chimed.
"Oh, of course! Come into the kitchen and get yourselves a plate. I think Mindy needs to clean her face. Don't you little girl?"
You could hear Mindy's giggles and Emily's baby talk all the way from upstairs as she got Mindy de-chocolate-fied. I guess I wouldn't be the only new addition to the Gate's family. I wasn't jealous, I smiled at the thought.
"So Emily cooks really fast..." Shane began a conversation with Sam.
The rest of the night was like that. Bonding with the whole pack. Endless request for rides on Jared, Paul, Collin, everybody. Emily hogging Mindy to herself. Then there was me anxious to get back to my imprint. I needed to make her safe. I needed to be with her. I would do anything and that's what I planned to do. Anything.
