Frank Was Heartbroken
“We need to get into town,” Ray Scarlett’s muffled voice sounds. They’re down by the dead fireplace, but I can clearly hear them.
“I know, but we can’t go alone, and we can’t just leave Frank here alone!” Little Bob sounds a bit annoyed. Though it could also be worry.
“Well, we need to get in there today. We’re out of condoms!” Yes, we have condoms. You know what, I don’t even wanna argue with you. Believe me. Don’t. I don’t care.
“I know, I know. We’re also out of beans.” My stomach hurts. I know I need to eat, but I just don’t have the appetite.
Suddenly I can hear bells. The sound is low, but I can clearly hear them. I curl further up into a ball and pull the blanket close to my mouth. It’s happening.
“The wedding is starting.” Little Bob’s voice is lower than before, but I can still hear every word.
“Maybe we should bring him along.”
“Into town where the wedding is at?” Little Bob whispers the word ‘wedding’, but I can still hear it.
“Well, in half an hour or so all the citizens will be gathered in the castle yard to see the…happy couple.” I can still hear him. They could use sign language, and I’d still hear them. And I really don’t wanna argue about whether or not we have sign language.
“It’d be like when there’s a hanging, or someone’s being put in the stocks! The streets will be practically empty! So instead of buying, we can easily just steal what we need!” Ray Scarlett does have his moments of brilliance.
“And we can still bring Frank. Hey, maybe a beer would do him good.” I smirk – on the inside. My face is paralyzed.

“Okay. You right, Ray Scarlett. Good thinking.” I can practically see Ray Scarlett glow with pride.
“So, should we leave in, say, half an hour? Forty-five minutes?” And yes, we can tell time.
“Yeah. Let’s do so.” Ray Scarlett must be a light-beam of pride by now.
“Hey, would you go find some berries or something? I think we should get Frank to eat something before we go.”
“Sure thing.”
