Beauty And The Beast - Werewolf Style

4.Scents.

I looked at him, waiting for him to continue.

“It goes like this” he started while getting comfortable.

“An alpha so unusual in colour
Bears a trait like no other
With ever changing eyes to pre-warn danger
From those to you who are no strangers
That can see the unseeable speed
Here is a clue that you must heed;

To offer this person, that of your affection
The time will come when they need your protection
Protect them from that which you hate
For with them comes a hunted trait.
They are fiery at heart, you could do no worse
They are the one that will break this curse.

They share their soul with another
Who feel incomplete without each other
A vow will save them from their fate
To which they will become your mate
Look past their looks, or else you’ll fail
For which will follow will be sorrow with no prevail

One final clue, that will help you;

D-H-4-11-19-82” he finished the prophecy and stared at me intently, awaiting my reaction.

“Whoa” was all I could say.

“Yeah, I know right?” he said, sighing deeply.

“Who do you think it’s talking about?” I asked him, clearly immersed in this mystery.

“We have no idea. No one has come along since you. But what we do know is that if we don’t find the person the prophecy is talking about before the next blue moon, which is in two months; then Thraxx is stuck like that forever and we would have missed our chance at breaking the curse”. He said with sigh as he rubbed his temple.

“Do you have any idea where to start?” I asked, leaning back on the couch.

“Not really, no. All we know is that it has to be a female because it definitely couldn’t be a male. “He said in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Obliviously” I said smartly, laughing slightly.

“Hang on, wait a minute....you don’t think it could be you, do you?” he asked me, sounding somewhat hopeful.

“Uh....” was all I could say as I avoided his eyes and pretended to think.

I knew that it was probably me that the prophecy was talking about. I mean I’m an alpha and I have an unusual colour coat because my hair is dark brown with silver and red streaks. Yet when I’m in my wolf form my coat is white and silver with a red streak in my mane. My eyes are unique and I have the family trait which is in the eyes. They flash in-between colours before something big is about to happen, they can also see and predict a vampire’s movement (speed), which is why my parents were killed by Vaako (var-co): a hunter – a vampire – because they too had the trait, the same with my brother. My brother and I are extremely close and can tell when the other is in trouble or in need of help. I have my scar across my left eyebrow; and the D and H could possibly stand for my name – Danni Hale and the four numbers – 4-11-19-82 – match my birthday.

Now that could all be a coincidence, but it may not. But for some unseeable reason I chose not to relay this information to Leaf. Mostly because I didn’t want to be with someone so they can break a curse so they can go on and ignore me because of my looks. No one wants that and I definitely don’t. I want someone who would look at me and not care that I have a tiny imperfection but look at the overall image and my personality. Thraxx is too conceited and too arrogant and selfish to see beyond looks and into the person’s soul.
That is why I chose not to tell Leaf all about myself, that is why I chose to keep them in the dark until I’m sure that Thraxx could change and not just because of the curse but for good.

“Do you have any family, any family traits that could you know about that could tie you to the prophecy?” he asked, again hopeful that I might be the one.

I was pretty damn sure that I was the one, I just wasn’t going to tell them that; yet.

“No, all my family was killed when I was young and there was no known trait, so I definitely can’t be the one” I said, maybe a little too quickly because he looked sceptic at best, like he didn’t believe me and knew I was lying.

He nodded he head slowly, seeming to accept my answer, for now at least. I had a feeling that he might later want pry into my personal life; I wouldn’t let him without a fight. He yawned and looked at the grand clock that was on the wall behind me above the fireplace.

“Urgh, its 2:00 am. I’m gonna go to sleep, you coming or are you going to stay for a while?” he asked me tiredly.

“I might stay for awhile, actually; might do some reading.” I said as I got up and headed towards the bookshelves.

“Night Danni” Leaf said as he headed to the door.

“Night” I said back as I started walking down the bookshelf.

“Oh, don’t forget to put out the fire. Don’t want to burn down the library” he reminded me before he left.

“Ok” I said, but he was already gone.

I casually walked down the shelf, scanning them for anything that looked interesting. As I was walking, a book caught my eye. I pulled it out and grinned to myself because I had found my favourite book, one I hadn’t read in years.

I took it to the couch that sat side on to the roaring fireplace. I laid down on my back and got comfortable. I must have been reading for a while because I was starting to get really tired and before I knew it, I was asleep.

What only felt like minutes later but was probably hours later, I felt something being laid down on me. I started to panic but I then realised it was only a blanket. I curled up into the warmth of it. I could feel the steady heat radiating from the fireplace, on my face. I assumed it was Leaf who put the blanket on me. I snuggled further into it and sighed in content.
I felt something brush against my face, I frowned a little; trying to figure out what it was, it felt furry but I was too tired to open my eyes so I just shifted slightly and fell back asleep.

Thraxx’s POV:

‘Urgh....I don’t know what I’m going to do’ I sighed as I paced around the halls of the castle.
I couldn’t get Danni out of my head. The moment I saw her I knew she was the one, I could feel it. God I hoped she was the one, but not just because she was gorgeous; I mean there was no argument there of the fact that she could be the one to break this curse, no. There was something different, something special about her that drew me to her and it’s driving me crazy trying to figure out what.

I hadn’t realised where I was walking until I was standing infront of the double doors that lead to the library. There was a gentle glow coming from under the door.

“Hm, usually Leaf puts out the fire before leaving” I mumbled to myself as I pushed open the doors to the library.

I looked around, seeing if I could spot Leaf.

“Leaf” I called as I walked towards the shelves.

A movement to my left caught my attention and I turned to see someone lying on the couch with what looked like a book lying on their chest. I walked towards the person as quietly as I could, so I wouldn’t disturb them from their sleep. As I walked closer, I saw that it was Danni. God, I couldn’t help but stare at her. The way the glow of the firelight hit her face and body made it look like she was glowing. She was so beautiful and I don’t know why I ever disregarded her. Like I said before, it wasn’t just about her looks, it’s her personality. I can tell she was different.

But then I saw the scar and I knew why I had disregarded her. But her beauty over runs the scar, I didn’t even remember it until I was focused on it. Maybe if I spend more time with her then I might be able to learn to forget about it, but I didn’t want to learn to forget about it; I wanted to know it was there and still think she is the most beautiful creature in the world. I don’t know why I am the way that I am, but I was hoping that Danni might change that.
I was brought out of my thoughts when I saw her shiver. Even though the fire was still alight, it was getting lower and the temperature was getting colder. I went and grabbed a blanket from my room because it was thicker and warmer than the ones in here. I came back and gently laid it on her. She curled up into it and sighed. As she was moving, some of her hair fell into her face.

I carefully leaned forward and brushed it out of her face. Her skin was so soft and silky smooth, it was unbelievable. She shifted again and then fell back asleep.
‘I think I will try and give her a chance, I’ll see how she interacts with my brothers and the pack’ I thought as I got up from the couch – for I had sat down to think – and headed out the door, softly closing it behind me.

Danni’s POV:

When I stirred awake I was hit with the most intoxicating scent I had ever smelt. I looked around to see if I could see who or what the alluring scent belonged to. I couldn’t see anything or anyone but I knew it was extremely close and then I realised where it was coming from.

The Blanket!

I snuggled into the blanket, feeling nothing but warmth and a tingling sensation running through my veins at the smell of the seductive scent. It smelt of rain and the smell of the early morning. I couldn’t help but breathe in more of the intoxicating scent. But whose was it? Leaf or Ruin or even Thraxx? Yeah right, I would no sooner chew my own foot off then believe that this scent, that could make me weak at the knees and my head dizzy, was Thraxx’s.

I stretched out until I felt a few bones creak and crack. I sighed contently and stood up. I was hungry as fuck; I had to find Leaf to ask for something to eat and to give back the blanket. I turned around, grabbed the blanket and headed to the door. I figured that I might as well try to find Leaf in the room I had awoken in when I first came here.

I remembered where to go and as I was walking down the hall, I heard oncoming footsteps coming down the hall. I froze in my footsteps and somewhat stepped into the shadows of the wall, hoping that the passing men wouldn’t notice me. As they got closer I started to recognise one of their voices. When they passed through the light I was relieved to see that it was Leaf and what must have been his younger brother, Ruin.
I stepped out of the shadows, which caught them off guard.

“Oh, it’s only you Danni” Leaf said relieved.

“Yeah, sorry; didn’t mean to scare you” I said, smirking.

“Me, scared? Pah, what nonsense” he said, feigning hurt.

A cough was heard from Ruin’s direction and we turned to see him staring at us, questioningly.

“Oh yeah, sorry; Danni this is Ru-“

“Ruin, yeah I know. I recognised you from your portrait” I said, shifting the blanket in my arms.

That must have caught their attention because they wouldn’t stop staring at it.

“Uh, you guys. What’s wrong?” I asked, clearly confused as to why they were staring so intently at the blanket.

“Danni, where did you get that?” Leaf asked; his voice wary.

“Oh, I woke up and it was on me. You see, I fell asleep on the couch in the library and I wanted to thank you” I said, still slightly confused as to their strange behaviours.

“Thank me, for what?” Leaf asked, clearly confused; just like me.

“For...for giving me the blanket, of course; It is yours, isn’t it?” I asked slightly scared of what the answer would be.

“It’s not one of ours, Danni” Ruin said, sounding scared and somewhat shocked.

“The who-“

“It’s Thraxx’s” Leaf said, sounding as if someone had just told him that hell froze over, but still somehow amused.

“What...no...H-he...blanket...me?” I said, stuttering and mumbling over my words.

“Wow, this is great!” Ruin explained, excitedly.

“Okay, anyway I wanted to ask you where I could get something to eat” I said, staring at them.

They shared knowing glances and then they smirked before staring back at me.

“You know, we were just on our way to wake up Thraxx for breakfast. But seeing as you’re here; you can do it” Leaf said, cheekily.

“WHAT!” I gasped, obviously against the idea.

“Yeah, that’s a great idea. It saves us a trip, thanks Danni” Ruin said as they started to walk away.

“Uh....” was all I said, as I stared at them shocked.

“Oh that’s right; Thraxx’s room is upstairs and to the end of the hall. Trust me, you’ll know his door when you see it” he said smiling and with that they walked away leaving me speechless.

“Oh God” I said as I gulped and turned around and headed to the stairs.

As I was walking I thought of what I would say to him once he woke up. My mind was still reeling from learning that it was Thraxx who put the blanket on me, Thraxx; whose scent was so alluring and seductive to me. I couldn’t understand, I had no liking towards Thraxx. So why was I nervous?

As I was having my internal debate, I hadn’t even realised where I was going. But out of some miracle, I now stood infront of Thraxx’s door. I now understood what Leaf meant by ‘you’ll know it when you see it’. His door – or should I say doors – were 2 HUGE oak doors with the Alpha mark design carved intricately into the wood.

I ran my hand over the carvings and breathed in the scent of the oak wood. I gently pushed open the door and was surprised that it didn’t even make a sound. I stepped through the threshold of the door and slowly mad my way into the room.

The fireplace was alight and it spread dancing light around the entire room. At each corner of the room there were 4 large pillars that supported the roof of the room. There was a huge bed in the centre of the room, which was raised up of the floor by steps. The fire light illuminated a rather large shape on the bed. As I walked closer, I realised it was Thraxx; lying curled up on his bed.

By now I had walked up the steps and was standing by his bedside, staring down at him. I must admit that even in this form he was still handsome as a wolf. God, what am I thinking? Actually I know what I’m thinking. I’m thinking that Thraxx is breathtakingly gorgeous in both forms and that I would like nothing more than to be on that bed with him. God, I hadn’t even been here that long and I was already thinking about being in his bed!

But his willingness to constantly judge on looks stopped that train of thought, maybe for forever.

I placed the blanket on his bed, only then realising that he was sleeping on sheets and not a duvet. He gave me his duvet and slept on sheets instead, all for my comfort. At that sudden revelation, I felt an unwanted feeling growing in the pit of my heart; overwhelming gratitude and the need to somehow repay the gesture that would have put him out of his comfort just so I could have the comfort of a blanket.

I sighed to myself as I lightly sat down on the edge of the bed – not completely understanding what my body was doing – especially by what I did next. As I was staring at his sleeping form, watching his back rise and drop steadily as he breathed deeply in his sleep; I wondered what exactly his fur felt like. Again against my mind’s wishes, I slowly raised my right hand and steadily moved it closer to the back of his neck where the fur was thickest. I was surprised at how calm and steady my hand was as I inched it closer to his silken black fur, compared to how my heart was beating fast, faster than normal; like it or I were on cocaine.

My fingers sunk into his silken fur and lightly brushed through it. I was extremely surprised to feel how unbelievably soft his fur was on my skin as I ran my hand through it. It sent goosebumps up and down my arms. He stirred slightly under my touch. I quickly moved my hand away before he woke up.

Now, I do not have any idea what my unresponsive, idiotic body was doing. Maybe if I got out of here alive, I might get it repaired or upgraded. But I knew exactly what it was doing; it was betraying my thoughts and mind and seemed to only function on some hidden desire deep down in me, somewhere.

Traitor!

You see, I – meaning my body – had the urge to smell his scent; to breathe in his intoxicating scent that first assaulted my senses when I woke up. I leaned forward, very slowly as to not stir the bed in any way. My heart seemed to increase its erratic beating sevenfold as I slowly and cautiously brought my nose to hover just behind his ear.

I breathed in deep, his scent once again filling all my senses as a shiver ran down my spine. I almost moaned in pleasure, my head was dizzy with desire as I continued to breathe in his scent. I wondered, if his scent could do just that to me; I wonder what his touch would do!

He ear twitched as my cheek accidently lightly brushed against it. I froze in my movements, hoping to god that it doesn’t raise Thraxx from his sleep. A sound near the door made me shoot up from my previous position but I was still on the bed. I stared hawk-eyed at the door, I don’t know what the sound was, but that wasn’t important.

What was important was that when I sighed and went to get up, but something held my hand down.
