Discovering the Past

Time to say goodbye

“Frank,” I said in a whisper .I slowly fell to my knees.
I smiled even wider.
“Hey,”
I couldn’t believe I was talking to a grave stone. I had waited so long to meet him that if this was the closest thing, I didn´t care.

Frank Anthony Iero.

I passed my finger over the name and took off some of the dust.
It seemed like no one had visited the place in a long time. I tried to clean the dust off by blowing it and taking off some falling leaves with my hand.
I put the roses next to the name.
“Hope you like them.”
I sat down cross-legged in front of the grave and smiled again.
couple of minutes passed by, I was thinking what to say, what to do.
I thought that I should tell him the truth.

“I´m Rose, well, your daughter.” I felt stupid, but continued. “You see, my mom didn´t tell you the truth, I didn´t die.” I passed my fingers across the name again.
“People say we look alike. Right Gee?”
Gerard wasn´t there anymore.

“Err. He was here, I guess he´s a little sad,” I looked around trying to find him. He wasn´t any where to be seen.
“He doesn’t say it, but I´m sure he misses you,” I caressed the name again.
“I´m really sorry about what happened to you, I´m really sorry my mom lied to you.”

It remained silent.
“I think we could have been great together, Gerard said that we have the same sense of humor.”
I laughed.
“If that is true we could have a badass couple of father and daughter.”

I let myself fall on the grass, listening to the ground.
I stayed there for what seemed like forever.
I needed to be some way in contact with him. Even if under me there was dirt, worms, a coffin and a dead body rocking in there.
I needed it, and this was the closest physical contact I would have with him.

“Rose,” A shaky voice woke me up.
“It´s time to go.”
“Uhmm.”
“C’mon honey. We should get back to the hotel”.
It was Gerard. He was extending a hand for me to stand up.
“Okay. Just let me say goodbye”.
“Sure” he said in a low voice.
“Err. I´ll try to visit again before we leave.”
“Okay?”
“I kind of love you dad. I wish we could have met”.

I kissed the stone and went to were Gee was, a couple of meters away.
“You don´t want to said goodbye?”
He just remained silent and started to walk in the direction of the car.

“Are you okay?” He asked inside the car, He saw a couple of tears running down my cheeks.
“Yes. I am. Thanks for bring me here.”
He just nodded.
After a couple of minutes of driving back to the hotel Gerard spoke again
“I already have.”
“Sorry?”
“Said goodbye,” He looked at me for a second. “I´ve already said goodbye of him.”
I just nodded.
“Sure.”

A couple of hours later we were eating dinner at the hotel.
“This place is amazing, huh?”
“You want to go out and see the city?” Gerard said a little excited.
“Not really, I´m pretty tired.”
“Sure,” He sounded disappointed.
“But if you want to…”
“No it´s okay.”
“After talking to Paul we can see everything,” I told him smiling.
“Okay, sure.”
“So where are we going tomorrow?”

Before he could answer his phone rang.
“Hello?”
He smiled at the other person’s voice.
“Fine!….….Yeah, everything´s okay.”
I looked at him, waiting.
“Yeah, Mikes…I not going to lose her, she´s not a dog……………………hahahaha, yeah!”
“Mikey? It’s Mikey?” I asked excitedly.
“Yeah,” He said to me.
“Okay…Hey…!!!”
I took the phone from his hands.
“Mikey!”
“Hey Rose, how are you?”
“Fine, we went to the grave today.”
“Great” I heard a strange sound followed by Mikey voice. “Jr…hey!”
“Hi.”
“Hey you…” I smiled at my boyfriend’s sweet voice.

We talked for a while. After couple of minutes, Gerard started to tap on the table.
“Okay, got to go. I´ll talk to you tomorrow.”
“I miss you,” Michael said, melting my heart.
“Me too.”
“Goodnight.”
“Night.”
I hung up.

I let out a sigh. Gerard just shook his head.

“So…tomorrow we go to the house, where your dad lived.”
I nodded and drank the rest of my soda.
“He left it to this guy, with luck he´ll be still living there.”
“Okay”
