A Happily Never After

Part Nine

'…and that’s about it…I heard about how you were feeling and I thought I should probably explain so there you have it…I’m sorry. I know you don’t understand right now but you’ll get it…maybe…friends?'

All I heard was bits and pieces of the message left on the machine, I didn’t care anymore. I took my hand, already balled into a fist, and slammed it down into the answering machine feeling plastic breaking under my hand. Then I laughed. An evil laugh that seemed to sound a bit like “muwahaha.”

“Madison!”

I stopped dead and turned to see my mom standing behind me.

“What the hell has gotten into you? Are you going to replace that?” She walked past me to pick up the broken answering machine.

“Sorry mom,” I said feeling a little ashamed that I had let my frustration get the better of me, “I’ll…uh…”

“Buy a new one? You bet you will. I know your still feeling down but that is no reason to break things that are not yours. Go for a walk or something,” She turned and left the room still carrying the broken plastic pieces.

A walk was probably a really good idea. “Thanks mom,” I called after her.
