Clarissa and Kyle woke me up the next morning by jumping on the bed. I smiled and began tickling them. Jamie and Tom came in; my best friend laughed.

"Breakfast, kids."

"Hey, Jame?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm heading home today."

"That's fine. Girl, why are you still wearing that stupid ring?"

"I forgot to take it off."

"Taresa, give it back to him. It'll let him know you two are really over."

"Fine. I'll go back to his house and return it. Besides, I have to grab the rest of my stuff."

"You'll need more than your car."

"Daddy'll let me borrow his truck."

"Alright."

"Taresa's home!"

"Yes, Daddy. Hello, Neil."

"Good afternoon. Jay and Debbie are inside."

"Okay."

Jay smiled at me nervously. "Hey."

"Hi. Um, Mama? I have to go back to the old house. I didn't get everything when I left."

"I don't want you to go alone."

"I'll go with her."

"Oh, Jay! That'd be wonderful!"

"What would be wonderful?" Deborah asked, entering the living room.

"Jay offered to take Taresa to her ex-fiance's house, so she can get the rest of her belongings."

"Such a gentleman."

"Come on."

Jay raised an eyebrow. "We're leaving now?"

"I wanna get this done and over with."
