A Raindrop in the Ocean
The EMT's Cousin
I got a call from my cousin in Ohio, it was a weekly thing. He chatted away about how work was picking up for him. He said the people in his town are taking the death of this one kid really hard. I shifted in the hard seat at work, I hated death, it made me uncomfortable. My boss walked by so I lowered my voice and tried to hide the phone.
"On the phone again, eh? Pack up your stuff, you're fired."
I cried into the phone while packing, Gregory kept apologizing, most likely because he hated it when girls cried. I just sniffled and said it was fine, no big deal. I kept thinking to myself if work hadn't picked up he would have called me on my lunch break instead of now. My boss has been itching for a reason to rid of me. Now he got his way, I stuffed my last picture frame into my purse and told Greg that I would call him tonight. I shuffled down the stairs and sighed. Never once did it cross my mind that if that kid never died this wouldn't have happened.
