Scars

Joining The Team

Scarlett walked downstairs to see her aunt and uncle sitting on the couch watching the evening news. It was about Arkham, and Jack. She smiled seeing his painted face flash upon the screen. She decided to take a sit and listen to the news report.

Shyla: Why on earth would he want to break out two men, Car?
Carmine: Workers.

Scarlett was amazed that her uncle knew Jack so well. She couldn't help but to wonder what his real opinions were of Jack. She wondered if her uncle truly hated him, or if he was simply scared of Jack like most people in Gotham were.

Scarlett: How do you know him so good uncle Car?
Carmine: I don't know him well, sweetie. He's a complicated man. But like he has preached to Gotham, he's ahead of the curb. It's better to be with him rather than against him in this city.
Scarlett: Are you.. with him?

She knew that her uncle didn't get along good with the cops in the city. He was actually probably up on the wanted list beside Jack, only he hadn't killed anyone. Or at least that she knew of. She wondered if her uncle and Jack had ever worked together before.

Carmine: I'm neutral.. but I would never double cross that man.

She couldn't help but to feel a bit better after having that small conversation with her uncle. It seemed as if he didn't think Jack was a monster like the rest of Gotham. He actually seemed kind of understanding of him. She was just glad her uncle didn't hate him completely, although she could sense that Jack was not his favorite person in the world.

Scarlett passed Chad in the hallway and noticed he was talking on the phone. He held up a finger which signaled for her to wait. She stood there as he got off the phone, he was laughing.

Chad: I need to talk to you.
Scarlett: About what?
Chad: Go inside your room, I'll be there in a minute.

Chad sounded mad about something. Scarlett couldn't figure out what it was. It wasn't often that her cousin cocked an attitude with her, but when he did she knew it was something major. She took a seat on her bed and it wasn't soon until her door came open.

Chad: You lied to me, Scar.
Scarlett: huh?
Chad: I know you went with out with Zeke.

She just looked down at her shoes remembering now how she lied. She had told him she was going out with Jack when in reality she was going out with Zeke. She knew how much her cousin hated him, so she felt she couldn't have told him the truth that night.

Scarlett: How'd you know?
Chad: George was at Bruce Wayne's party and saw you there. I can't believe you went out with that fucking sleazeball, Scarlett. What the fuck was you thinking?
Scarlett: I had to if I was ever going to get him to leave me alone. He promised if I went out with him on one date that he'd leave me alone!
Chad: Has he left you alone?
Scarlett: No..
Chad: See, he never had fucking intentions of leaving you alone! He just played his damn mind games on you. He's a worthless fucking corrupt cop. I can't believe you fucking went out with him. Let me guess, there is no Jack guy is there? It's just a cover up for Zeke.
Scarlett: There is a Jack guy, and I actually told Zeke today that I was seeing someone. He rushed off without saying much, and that was the only time I lied to you!
Chad: Whatever, Scar. Zeke's probably trying to find information on your little boyfriend right now so he can put him behind bars for some crime he didn't commit. You've got yourself in deep with this one.

He just shook his head after that and left. Scarlett just fell back on her bed and buried her head in her pillows. She laughed though, thinking of the last thing chad said. "he's probably trying to find information on your little boyfriend right now so he can put him behind bars for some crime he didn't commit". He's committed every crime under the sun so whatever Zeke would hold against him would be the truth, but even Scarlett knew that Zeke was no match for Jack.

She heard a car start up and peeked out the window and noticed her cousin was leaving. She wondered where he was going since his girlfriend had classes this afternoon. Scarlett laid back down and pulled the covers over her. It was just edging dark but she was already so tired.

He was briefing his men on what he wanted to happen in the next week. He told them that he wanted Sal Maroni dead soon. They all just nodded their heads. He knew though that this job was going to be very hard due to the fact that no one had seen Sal in months.

Happy: He has a son, doesn't he? Maybe we should question him about where his dear old daddy is.

The Joker nodded his head and a smirk appeared on his face. He motioned for the men to get into their gear. They was going after Zeke Maroni tonight. He walked upstairs and reapplied his make-up. He wondered if he should call Scarlett or not, and then decided against it. He'd just call her when he got home later tonight.

The Joker got news from one of his men that Zeke was off the clock tonight and you could find him at the local pub drinking and hitting on the bartenders. The Joker sent two men in out of their mask to ask where he was out and get a visual of him. They both came back out of the pub shaking their heads.

Giggles: Guy behind the corner said he left a few minutes ago with a tall guy. Said they went through the back door. Doesn't it lead to an alley?

The Joker grabbed his knife and then pulled the van over into the parking lot, towards the back. It helped that it had finally hit night time out. He got out of the van and along with two of his men and walked his way to the alley. When he arrived there though there was already a show going on with Zeke being the victim. A man had him shoved against the wall making threats. The Joker didn't want to interrupt them so he just listened to what the man had to say.

" IF YOU COME NEAR MY LITTLE COUSIN AGAIN, I WILL GUT YOU AND PLACE YOUR INSIDES ALL ALONG YOUR FATHER'S MANSION. YOU GOT THAT, ASSHOLE? "

Zeke: I will do as I fucking please, Chad. This is my city, and if I want Scarlett bad enough I'll have her... There's nothing you, nor anyone else can do about it.

The Joker now figured out who the man was and what they was arguing about. Chad Falcone, and the topic of discussion was Scarlett. He clapped his hands catching the attention of both men. Although both looked their way, Chad never loosened his grip around Zeke's throat.

Joker: Looks like you've got yourself in a tricky situation, Zekey Boy.
Zeke: What do you want, Freak!
Joker: Oh, name calling again.. How childish. I came for business.
Chad: Well you're going to have to wait, I'm not finished with him.

The Joker couldn't believe that Chad had just said that. Maybe Happy was right; maybe he would make one hell of an addition to the team. He ushered Chad to continue with Zeke and leaned against the brick wall and watched as he threatened him more and then started choking him until he turned blue. He then released Zeke to the ground and kicked him hard in the stomach before walking away.

Joker: Wait just one second, Chad. I've got business with you too. First though I need to speak with Zeke.

Chad stood against the wall and watched as The Joker walked over and bent down and interrogated him on the location of his father. Zeke didn't give The Joker the details that he wanted though; actually he told him he didn't know. Chad and his men thought that since he didn't give him the details he wanted that he would be finished off. He wanted to make him suffer later, he wanted him to be alive when his father was killed.

The Joker walked past Chad and motioned for him to walk with him. They walked together to the van and Chad stood there with his arms crossed for the longest time wondering what The Joker could want with him.

Joker: Looking for a job?
Chad: I have a job, Joker.
Joker: Too bad, I was interested in you joining my team, but if you're just not up for it.
Chad: What's joining your team consist of? I'm not moving out of my house nor quitting my job, or the mob, and if I do join.. no more targeting the mob for anything.
Joker: No deal, Sal Maroni's on my list.
Chad: Fuck with the Maroni's all you want, as long as you make sure I'm there to have my hands in on it too.
Joker: Deal then. Consider yourself part of the team, Falcone.

The Joker told Chad where his hideout was, and was shocked to find out it was only a few blocks from his house. He then walked off to his car, debating if his decision to join the team would be a good thing or bad thing.

The Joker and his men arrived back at the hideout. He walked upstairs and wondered if asking Chad to join his team would be a good thing or a bad thing. He knew that if he was going to work for him than he couldn't hide the fact of Scarlett from him forever. He just wondered if Chad would be okay with the fact that his cousin was involved with one of Gotham's most dangerous criminals, or would he want to react like he did with Zeke.
