Hello Sunshine

Chapter One

“That’s great! I can’t believe that they’re letting you do this seeing as how you are only an intern.” My sister exclaims over the phone. I nod, a wide smile taking over my slightly olive colored face.

“I know. I’m so excited. To think, this time Wednesday I’ll be interviewing Tokio Hotel.” I whisper yell. While sighing, I shake my head, attempting to get my auburn hair out of my face.

“Well, Tabs, I’m happy for you. You’re moving up in the world!” Evie says, a smile in her voice.

“Thanks!” I exclaim, doing a little jig in the confined area of the stall as I happily scream in my head. “Any who, I should go. I’ll see you later, ‘kay?”

“Of course. Love you and good luck!”

“Love you, too!” I reply before hanging up my blackberry. Quickly and silently, I fluff my hair and smooth out my black pencil skirt after shoving my phone into my absurdly large purse. I step out of the bathroom stall and look at myself in the mirror on the wall across from me. Today, my mahogany tresses are straightened and falling to just below my breasts. My bangs are fluffed out a bit and covering my entire forehead. I smooth out my favorite purple, v-neck shirt and smile.

Confidence is key. Just don’t let this go to your head.

I quickly do a little fist pump to get it out of my system before exciting the women’s bathroom at The Rolling Stone magazine’s office in San Francisco. I walk down the hall, heading towards my boss’s office, my knee highs clicking on the wood floor all the while.

I round the corner and strut down the hall to Charlotte’s office. I slowly push open the fogged glass doors and stick my head in. Blair, Charlotte’s secretary, is sitting behind her desk, clicking something out on her Dell computer.

I fully enter the room, smiling. “Hey Blair! How are you?” I inquire, walking up to the desk she’s sitting behind.

“Apparently not doing as good as you! Way to go, landing that Tokio Hotel interview.” She smiles at me, her black and purple hair swinging into her face.

I continue to smile, my grin growing slowly but surely. “Thank you! Is Charlotte in?” I cock my head to the side and glue my emerald green eyes to her.

“Yep,” She quickly types something on her computer before finishing, “you can go in.”

I smile and nod, straightening my spin and re-fluffing my hair before approaching the second set of fogged glass doors in front of me.

“Charlotte?” I question, sliding into her office. There are windows on two of the three walls in her office, providing a great view of the world out side. Every piece of furniture in her room is contemporary and cold, but yet, there is this almost Zen feel that seeps into you as soon as you enter her office.

“Just the girl I wanted to see. You left for the bathroom so quickly I didn’t have a chance to fill you in on anything else.” Charlotte says quietly, not looking up from whatever she is reading or looking at on the monitor of her laptop.

I blush, thankful that she’s too preoccupied at the moment to notice. I close the distance between her desk and I quickly, seating myself in the black, leather, high-back chair positioned in front of her Maplewood desk.

“I’m sorry.”

“No need to apologize.” At this point, she turns away from her computer and looks at me, her honey brown eyes boring holes into my green ones. This is what she does when she means business. “Like I said earlier, I want you to interview the band Tokio Hotel; you’re going to be spending about a week with them. They’ll be staying at the Kyoto Hotel and so will you. We’ll pay for your stay, naturally, but understand this, interns do not usually get a chance like this and if you mess this up, you’re out. There is no “three strikes”. There is only one.”

I nod silently, swallowing as I stare at her. Charlotte purses her lips, leaning back in her chair as she does so.

“I trust you, you’re very capable, I’m just warning you. Also, since you speak German fluently, you’ll have an easier time.”

Thank you, Oma.

I smile and nod, shifting in my seat, causing a squeaking sound to be produced by the leather.

“Also, besides doing the interview, you’re going to need to take some pictures. These pictures will be the ones on the website.” My boss pauses to take a sip of her decaf turtle mocha from Starbucks and clears her throat. “You’re flight for LA will be leaving at 2:30pm on Tuesday. I want you to be settled in before they get there Wednesday morning.”

I nod again, waiting for her to go. We just look at each other for a few seconds in silence.

“Do you have any questions?” she asks, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Nope. I just want to thank you so much for this opportunity. I really appreciate it; you have no idea!” I proclaim, standing from my spot on the edge of the leather chair.

“Yeah, yeah.” Charlotte drawls, waving her hand in a dismissing manner.

I grin from ear to ear as I take the few pieces of paper out of her hand as she hands them to me. I look down at them quizzically, then back at her.

“It’s just some info on the band that may come in use.”

“I know everything about them! They are, after all, one of my favorite bands.” I state, walking over to the doors leading out of her Zen office. With that, I skip out of her office quickly only to hear her moan softly. My smile widens.

I am so in Seventh Heaven right now.
