Song Of The Heart

You Pay Me To Do This?

Wait. Say what now?! This is to weird.

“Now Ms. Lewis, I’m sure you’ll be rather, pleased with the offers you’ve been receiving.” I nodded politely and let Jon Callahan elaborate. “Well Pepsi has been requesting your endorsement for their 2009 ad campaign for quite sometime now.” He smiled and began to ruffle through his leather suitcase. “All you’d have to do is agree to participate in a couple print ad campaigns, broadcasted commercials, and say Pepsi is your number one. They’ve agreed to pay you 1.5 million just for a year contract.”

I nodded and let the staggering number run by me. “Sketchers would also love to have a two year contract with you; they’re offering 3 million per year.” I let Jon continue on as I sat patiently on the other end of the oak table.

Today I was checking up on endorsement offers and opportunities. “We we’re also thinking a possible fan contest should be arranged. Have an ad advertising a day spent with you for the winner who sends in an interpretation of your new single New Age Wave.” I smiled, “I like that, I really do. What about, I don’t know, possibly me branching out and making my own fragrance line.” Jon nodded enthusiastically, “that’s exactly what I was hoping to hear.” I nodded and grabbed my purse.

“Thank you so much Jon, I really appreciate the help.” I replied shaking his hand. Jon nodded and reminded me to think about the other offers I had received. While driving back to the hotel I let the offers run through my head, “Ms. Lewis? I believe your phone is ringing.” The limo driver smiled back at me.

I had been spacing out so much I had completely forgotten about the vibrating cell phone in my purse. “Hello?” I asked rather sheepishly. “So I’ve decided you’re going out tonight, with moi. So once you get back-whenever that is I’d get ready.”

“Nick?” I flushed brushing some hair from my face. “Who else would this be?” I could only see the smirk plastered on his beautiful face. “What if I don’t feel like going out tonight?” Nick’s voice cut in, “Not an option. You like food right? I’m sure you do. I’ll pick-rather Luke will pick you up at seven.” I checked my watch; it was four now.

“Who’s Luke?” Nick chucked, “Your very own limo driver.” I flushed, all this time the sweet British man carting me around all of kingdom come had a name, silly me. “Right.” I replied sheepishly. “Seven.” Nick repeated ending the phone call.

I shook my head but couldn’t seem to fight the smile spreading across my lips. Why was it so hard for me to deny him? I mean he didn’t have a girlfriend so I was safe, well so he says, it’s not like he’s some creepy stalker obsessed with me, thank gosh!, and he was rather popular as well, meaning I didn’t have to worry about a double motive.

Yet, I couldn’t help but feel-something. And it wasn’t a good something either.

I ignored my churning stomach and thanked Luke, once I reached the hotel. I walked slowly up to my room, I needed to kill time. By the time I entered the room my fingers began dialing a memorized number.

“Hello?”

“Collin? It’s Lex. I need help with something.”

I waited patiently taping my foot against the beige rug forNick Luke to appear. “I don’t know why you get so nervous, it’s just a date.” Diana smirked throwing up some popcorn and catching it in her mouth.

I glared at her and continued to tap my foot. “I don’t know Di, he’s just-I don’t know.” Diana sighed and spread out on the love seat. “Perfect, he’s simply too perfect, meaning! He has a flaw.” I raised my eyebrow and looked her way, “What does that mean?” Diana shrugged and shoved another load of popcorn into her mouth, “I can’t believe you pay me to do this!” she grinned.

I rolled my eyes; there was a small knock on the door. I quickly stood up and nervously turned around to face Diana, “How do I look?” Diana shook her head, “Hot. I’m borrowing that dress when you get back.” I ignored her comment and opened the door.

“Ms. Lewis, I’ll escort you to your limo.” I nodded and turned back to Diana. “Don’t wait up!” Diana flipped through the channels nodding slightly, “I wasn’t planning on it.”

The destinationNick Luke brought me to was simply stunning. The Masa, a five star Chinese restaurant in New York City, was dimly lit with beautiful candles and intimate seating.

Luke brushed past the hostess and guided me to a secluded part of the restaurant. “Mr. Jonas is waiting.” I smiled up at him and followed where he pointed.

“It took you long enough,” Nick joked kissing my cheek gently. I glared and sat across from him, “So how did you manage this?” Nick smirked and sipped his water. “Surprises, surprises.” I rolled my eyes and ordered my food as Nick patiently waited for me.

“Thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it.” Nick grinned, “I’m glade, that’s all I wanted.” Our dinner was better then words could describe. The conversation was amazing and the food-outstanding.

By the time our ‘outing’ was over, I refused to call it a ‘date’ to spare the cheesiness; we headed back to the hotel.

Nick kindly walked me to my hotel door, “You know I think Joe still has your hat-you know the white one from the radio show. You want me to run over and get it?” I shook my head and grabbed his hand.

“I’ll come with.” He smiled and swung our hands together. By the time we reached his hotel room it all seemed quite. “Want to come in?” I nodded and let him unlock the door. I could hear the T.V. running and wandered into the room.

“Nick?! I’ve got to-oh, hi Lexi.” Joe smiled. Something was wrong, it wasn’t a ‘Joe’s carefree and loves all smile.’ It was a ‘Joe’s about shit his pants smile.’

“Nicky!” a high pitched squeal rang out. I looked past Joe, who smacked his head in regret. Sitting happily on the boys couch watching T.V. with Kevin was my worst nightmare.

Selena Gomez.
