I Finally Got Adopted..Dang

The Dress

“Here you go Marley. Get dressed in this, were going out to eat in a half hour.” Mackenzie walked into my room holding a long plastic bag. I had just gotten out of the shower and I was brushing my hair.

“What is it?” I asked, not bothering to wait for her reply before I started opening the bag. Inside was the worst possible thing ever. I pulled out the short, bright pink dress; it was sleeveless and frilly around the neck. “Um, Kenzie what is this?”

Mackenzie huffed. “It’s the dress I want you to wear tonight to dinner. No exceptions. Here are the heels you are to wear. Do something cute to your hair.” She handed me some shoes and left. I looked at the shoes; they were silver and at least eight inches tall, I would probably kill myself jut walking in them. I groaned and threw on the dress. It was one of those dresses that bubbled mid-thigh. I slipped on the heels and slowly walked over to the mirror. I quickly blow-dried and straightened my hair. Next I layered on my eyeliner, more than I normally would just to make Kenzie mad. I put in earrings that were zebra print stars. I was getting ready to head downstairs when Eli barged in. He opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out.

“Can I help you?” He still said nothing. He just kept staring at me in the ugly pink dress.

“Ugh isn’t this dress hideous? It’s pink!” I yelled. He shook his head. “You don’t think it’s hideous?” I asked him.

“No, I think you look amazing.” He whispered.

I stared at him like he had two heads. I looked amazing in pink? There was no way. “Eli, you need to get your eyes checked, I look hideous. I hate pink.” Eli continued shaking his head.

Finally I gave up on convincing him that I looked hideous, so I just left him standing there. “You better get a good look, this is the only time you’ll see me in pink.” I said before leaving the room. I walked into the living room and saw Mackenzie, James, and Alex standing around. One of the blond couples was standing near John, so I figured they were his parents, but I couldn’t be sure. Eli’s parents and the other blond couple were still getting ready.

Alex was standing behind Mackenzie scowling at her. Mackenzie was talking to James quietly so she didn’t notice. I walked up to him and noticed that he had on a pink tie; the pink matched my dress exactly. “Aw Alex, it looks like you’re my date. Where’s my corsage?” I asked him, laughing. He turned his scowl onto me. “Shut up Marley. Mom made me wear this tie.” I laughed even harder. “Alex, I think you look cute.” I patted his arm reassuringly, he just snarled at me.

“Is everyone ready to go?” Mackenzie asked a few minuets later when everyone was in the room. There were murmurs of acknowledgement. I looked around the room, each one of the boys had on a tie. Eli had on a black tie while his father had on a green one. Jeremy had on a blue tie, John had on a red one, James had on a maroon tie, and both blond adults had on striped ties. It looked like Alex and I were the only matching ones, I snickered to myself. Next, I looked at the mothers. Mackenzie looked beautiful in a pale lavender dress. Mrs. Tucker, Eli’s mom, had on a royal blue dress, the blond woman with brown eyes had on a black dress, and the other blond woman had on a gold dress. Each woman had her hair curled. Looking at all of the people in the room made me hate dressing up. “Okay then, let’s go.” Mackenzie said and we all headed out.
