Chapter 22
-Chapter 22-
“Alright, babe. You ready?”
Ryan sighed. “Yeah.” School was about to start in a week and Ryan’s dad had completed his therapy. It was time for him to go home.
I grabbed his hand and gently squeezed. “Remember, you’ll always have a home with me.
We knocked at the door. Within a few seconds it quietly and creepily creaked open revealing Ryan’s father who looked happy but trying to hold it in. I prayed that he was better and wasn’t just putting on a front. “I’m so glad you’re back.” He hugged Ryan tightly and welcomed me in. It was weird seeing him like this. All happy-go-lucky without a care in the world. He sat us down on the couch and looked Ryan dead in the eye. “I changed, I swear, I have. What I did to you was wrong and I promise I’ll never hurt you again.”
Ryan’s brow was bunched as if he were thinking hard. “Do you mean it?” His words were sincere and questioning.
“Yes.”
A heavy sigh flowed from Ryan’s chest. “Okay.”
“So will you move back in?”
“Yeah.” Ryan smiled and I did too even though on the inside I didn’t really trust his dad. Something told me that this wasn’t going to work out. I had a bad feeling.
