You'll Hate Me

You'll Hate Me

“I can’t do this. I can’t see you anymore.”
A tear rolled down his face. “Wh-what?”
“I want to break up.” She turned so her back faced him.
“Cat, why?” He walked to her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Cat shrugged his hand away, chocking back tears. “I’m sorry Frank.”
“At least tell me why!” Frank begged.
“I-I cant.” Cat’s voice cracked, eyes overflowing with tears. “You’d hate me.”
Frank shook his head, taking a step closer. “No, I could never hate you.”
“Yes you will.” Cat squeaked. “Its best that you just don’t know. I can’t deal.”
Frank shook his head, getting angry. “Just tell me.”
Cat took a steady breath. “No.”
Frank grabbed Cat’s arm hard, and roughly forced her against the wall.
Cat gasped at the pressure.
“Then I’ll be taking my possessions and leaving.” Frank stated, as he snatched the small pendent that hung off Cat’s neck.
With one final push, he turned and left.
Cat slid down the wall and sat at the base, tears streaming down her face.
“You’ll hate me.”

A knock on the door woke Cat hours later.
She dried her tears on her sleeve and opened the door. There stood Cat’s best friend, Love. A new batch of tears swelled in Cat’s eyes.
Love saw that Cat was crying and ran to hug her. “Whoa, what’s the matter honey?”
Cat shook her head and cried.
“Cat.” Love said softly.
Cat buried her head further into Love’s shoulder.
“Cat.” Love demanded, “Look at me.”
Cat looked at Love, tears still falling.
“Good girl. Now tell me what’s wrong.” Love coaxed.
“I- I’ve got a secret…” Cat swallowed, “and you’ll hate me for it”
Love laughed, “Nothing can make me hate you.”
Cat stared at Love. “That’s what Frank said, before he left.”
“Can you just tell me? I wont leave you.” Love asked.
Cat nodded and took her friends hand, leading her to the couch. She sat down and patted the seat next to her, looking at the floor.
Love sat down and waited for Cat to speak.
After about a minute, Cat whispered something into her ear.
Love’s eyes widened. “Oh my god.”
Cat nodded, tears threatening to spill again.
“You have to tell him.”
She nodded again, then collapsed into tears.

Love grabbed the phone, and rang Frank.
He arrived at Cat’s house, and knocked on the door.
Love opened it and instructed that Cat was crying on the couch still, and that she had to go.
Frank nodded and entered the house quietly. He saw Cat lying on the couch, and felt his heart drop. He couldn’t bear that the love of his life was crying.
Frank quietly sat on the couch and hugged Cat.
Cat gasped. “What are you doing here?”
Frank shrugged, “Love called and said you had to tell me something.”
A tear silently crawled down Cat’s face. “Oh.”
Frank brushed the tear away. “What’s so important that you can’t tell me?”
Cat swallowed and took Franks hands in hers. “I’m dieing Frank.”
“What?”
Cat sighed, “I have cancer.”
