Iero Fiasco

Just a Sad Song

"Try making the drums more prominent." Jess suggests to the mixer.
"Yeah, that sounds much better." Molly says nodding.
"Now the vocals sound a bit off." Tray states, shaking her head.
"I can fix that." the mixer says adjusting a few knobs.
"Perfect." Molly declares.

"Well ladies, its past eight o'clock." the mixer says yawning, "See ya in the morning."
"Oh right." Tray says looking at her watch, "See y'all tomorrow."
"See ya." Molly says picking up her Gibson guitar and heading out.

She gets into her car and turn on her cell phone to see she has one missed text message from Frank.

It's been a hard day's night,
And I've been working like a dog,
It's been a hard day's night,
I should be sleeping like a log,
But when I get home to you,
I find the things that you do,
Will make me feel alright.

She had to admit, quoting The Beatle's song was terribly romantic but they'd talked over the phone every night that week and their conversations were still stale and awkward.

Besides tonight she had something else in mind as she drove to the nearby cafe. The sign outside announced it was open mic night.

She grabbed her guitar and headed inside, she spotted the manager sitting at the counter.
"Hi." she said softly, "I'm Molly Jergins."
"Right, you're on in about fifteen minutes."
"Thanks." Molly says as she goes to have a seat and listen to the local artists.

"And now we have Miss Molly Jergens." the manager announces.

Molly goes up on stage and plugs her guitar into one of the amps. She sits on the stool, adjusts the mic then starts strumming her guitar.

"Who knew I'd fall so hard,
When things were going so good.
Who knew falling in love,
Meant falling to pieces.

Never thought I'd fall in love,
It just seemed too strange,
Since the day I met you,
Everything seemed to change.

I though thing were perfect,
Through it all, though you were worth it.
Now I'm asking myself questions.
How was I so wrong.

Why is the only guy I loved,
The one that hurt me the most.
My eyes, swollen and sore,
When I shouldn't give a damn."

Molly finished off her set with a Nirvana and a Clash cover. She got off stage and headed back to where she had been sitting before.

A guy walks up to her and motions to the empty chair.
"Mind if I sit here?"
"Go on ahead." she replies.
"Good song, but you seem more lively when the rest of Warped Battery is up on stage with you," he grins at her surprise of being recognized, "Miss Molly Fiasco."
"You caught me." she says smiling, "Your name is?"
"Danny . . . Danny Mitchels."
"Your name sounds familiar."
"We went to the same high school." he supplies.
"I don't remember you though."
"Its okay, the only reason I know you is because your band played the school talen show."
"Oh yeah." she laughs.
"So can I buy you a coffee?"
"I uhh." she stammers, it took her a second to remember she'd broken up with Frank, "Sure."
