Take Me as I Am

Forget

“Hello?” Olivia answered the phone. “Sum, is everything okay?” She hadn’t heard from Summer since she had arrived in Tampa Bay, and that was only a thirty second phone call.

“She has cancer,” Summer said, barely above a whisper. Olivia wasn’t sure if she had heard her correctly or not.

“She has cancer?” Olivia repeated as she looked over at Jonathan who sat next to her. He reached over and grabbed her free hand with his own.

“The doctor said it was something like CML,” Summer said. It was obvious that she was crying. “He said that they’re putting her on some meds, and they hope that that fixes everything, but that she might have to go through chemo or a bone marrow transplant.”

“But she’s okay right now?” Olivia asked.

“Yeah,” Summer said. “She kept telling me not to worry.”

“That sounds like her,” Olivia said with a smile. “How are you doing?”

“I’m fine,” Summer replied.

“Sum, I’m being serious right now.”

“I know, Liv. I’m in my hotel room right now. I’m not out drinking or anything. And by the way, how much did you tell Pat anyways?” Summer asked.

“He overheard me talking with Jon. All I said was that you went a little crazy when your dad died,” Olivia told her.

“So, how much did you have to pay him to get him to come out here and babysit me?” Summer asked with a laugh.

“Pay him?” Olivia asked, confused. “He offered to go out there with you.”

“What do you mean ‘he offered?’ You didn’t ask him to come watch me?”

“No,” Olivia said. “Like I said before, he overheard me and Jon talking, and he said he’d go out there with you. I told him that I didn’t know if him going out there was going to be the best thing, seeing as how much you dislike him, but he said he wasn’t going to let you hurt yourself.”

“So, he’s here because he wants to be?” Summer asked.

“Yeah,” Olivia answered. “Sum, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” Summer said. “Listen, I’m going to go. I’m going to take a nap and go back and see Mom again. But, I’ll call you tomorrow, okay? I’ll probably come back home on Wednesday.”

“Okay, Sum. Be careful,” she said.

“Don’t worry, Liv. And tell Jon I said hi,” she said with a smile. “Bye.”

“Bye,” Olivia said, hanging up the phone.

It was nearly 9:30 that night, and Summer and Patrick were leaving the hospital after spending some time with Faith. Summer couldn’t believe how much sicker Faith had looked now compared to this morning.

Summer was walking ahead of Patrick, and she noticed that Patrick had gotten stopped by some fans asking for autographs. Instead of waiting for him, she continued making her way out of the hospital and to a cab that was outside.

Fifteen minutes later, Patrick had finally gotten away from the fans. He loved fans, but right now his mind was only focused on Summer. He had seen her when she left the hospital, and she was not in good shape. She was extremely upset about her mother, and Patrick was worried about what she was going to do that night.

As he got into a cab, he called Olivia. “Hey, Patrick,” Olivia answered the phone. “Is everything okay?”

“I lost track of Summer,” Patrick admitted.

“What do you mean you lost track of her?” Olivia asked worried.

“I got stopped by some fans at the hospital, and Summer kept walking. I’m hoping she’s at the hotel,” he told her.

“Oh my god!” Olivia cried. “Let’s just hope she’s at the hotel.”

“Do you know where she would have gone if she’s not there?” Patrick asked. Olivia gave him the names of the places Summer used to go to, and Patrick made a mental note of them all. “Okay, thanks, Olivia. I’ll call you if there’re any problems.”

“Okay, thanks, Pat,” she said as she hung up.

Patrick made his way to the fourth floor, praying that Summer was there. As he reached their rooms, he saw Summer walking out of hers wearing an extremely short, black skirt with a skimpy shirt. He had never seen Summer dressed like this, and he couldn’t help but stare at her for a moment.

“Where are you going?” Patrick asked her, standing in her way.

“What does it matter?” Summer retorted.

“Summer, I’m not going to let you go anywhere looking like that,” Patrick told her.

“Oh, come on Pat. You can’t stop me. And I don’t see what the problem with my clothes is anyways. I mean you sleep with girls that dress like this all the time.”

“Summer, you’re only doing this because you’re upset right now. I’m not going to let you go out and then regret it tomorrow morning.”

“Pat, I’m just going to go find someone and get everything off of my mind tonight. It’s going to be a one night stand, and I’m not going to regret anything,” she told him as she tried to push her way through him.

“You’re not going,” Patrick said grabbing her arm and spinning her back around so she was looking at him.

“I just want to forget everything for tonight. Just let me forget,” she said as she kissed him roughly.

Patrick was taken aback for a moment before he began kissing her back. He then realized what he was doing and pulled away. “Summer, we can’t do this. This isn’t going to make your mom’s cancer go away.”

“I don’t expect it to go away. I just want to forget it for one night. And I don’t care if you help me forget or some random guy,” she said beginning to walk towards the elevator.

“Summer,” he called after her, and she stopped and turned around to look at him.

“You’re not going to go sleep with some random guy,” he said walking up to her and kissing her. They stumbled their way back to Patrick’s room, where they finally broke their kiss so he could open the door. Their lips reattached as they made their way to the bed, and their clothes began dropping to the floor.
