Do It By Hand

When You Wish

It had been almost a month since I’d seen Conor, he was on a tour of sorts. And also working on a new project, involving friends and former project members. I missed him, but at least he called me everyday. So that made me feel better while he was gone, and it also made me feel better since he would most likely be gone for another 3 weeks. I tried my best to not be depressed or unsocial. But of course people like Gordan saw right through it.

“You’re pitiful.” Gordan chuckled as he picked me up to run errands with him.

“I know, I’m trying hard not to be.” I sighed slumping into the passengers seat.

“Well, Cody is coming with us so perk up.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re pathetic-ness will give him a reason to try even harder to win you over.”

“Win me over?”

“Yes girl, he’s like totally in love with you. If you can’t tell that by now you’re more than pitiful, you’re dumb.” He scoffed as turned into Cody’s driveway. Gordan normally got out of the car, but was probably just as lazy as me and honked instead.

“I mean we liked each other, but in love. I feel like you’re exaggerating.” I stated unslumping myself.

“Fine. Watch who he says hello to first, even though I’m driving.” Gordan said just before Cody opened the door and got in.

“Hey Lola, hey Gordan.”

“Told you.” Gordan mouthed as he pulled out of Cody’s driveway.

“Hey.” I tried to sound enthused,

“Where are we going?”

“The mall past Trepid, since our mall blows.” Gordan replied as he got onto the interstate and turned up his music.

“So Lo, what’s been going on?” Cody asked.

“Not much, got into this school in Houston and Kentucky.”

“Both warmer.”

“Yeah, that’s one of the benefits. What about you? How have you been?”

“Working a lot. Got a job at your alma mater.” He sounded really happy. Cody worked with kids almost since high school. And he finished his degree in elementary education. If I were to think logically and not romantically, Cody would be more ideal than Conor. He’d be easier to be with, since my career is similar to Conor’s, since I also will be traveling a lot as well. Or just plain busy.

Those thoughts were swept away when I heard my phone ring, and it was Conor. It seemed as though he called at the perfect times.

“Hello.”

“Hey there.” Conor said, and I could hear his smile. Which made me smile, and Gordan noticed.

“Oh God, you’re allowed 5 minutes on the phone.” He said with an exasperated sigh.

“Shut up.” I mouthed.

“Tell Gordan that he’s just jealous.” Conor chuckled.

“What’s up?” I decided to change the subject, not knowing what Gordan would do after 5 minutes.

“Well, I just thought I’d let you know that I will be having a break.”

“Oh, so you’re coming here?” I tried not to sound so happy.

“Well, no. We have to stay in the city we’re stopping, but guess where the city is?”

“Uh-“

“It’s where you have wanted to go for a while?” he tried leading me to an answer.

“Um-“

“It’s warm and almost always sunny?” still leading me on.

“Florida?”

“Yes! And we’re staying in a city where you see all your favorite things about your childhood?”

“Nuh uh!” I said like a kid.

“Yes huh!” he responded like one as well.

“No fair! Lucky.” I started to pout, which I’m sure he heard.

“Well I don’t know what you’re complaining about, we’re here a week and a half.”

“If you’re trying to get me to stop complaining, that’s not the way to go about it.” I said as Gordan pointed at the clock.

“What I mean is, pack your bags, you’re coming here!” he said laughing.

“Oh. Oh! Yay!”

“I’ll send you the information for your flight in a few, you leave tonight.”

“Tonight?”

“Yes.”

“Oh my God.” I was surprised and so excited. It had taken my mind off the fact that I had started to miss him so much. I mean Disney makes everything better.

“Ok, so I’ll see you soon.” Conor said, I felt like he had paid attention to the time as well. Gordan pointed to the clock showing my time was up.

“Ok! I l-“ I stopped myself. It wasn’t OK to say that word yet.

“Huh?”

“Oh sorry, a good song came on the stereo in Gordan’s car. I’ll call you when I’m boarding the plane.” That was close, I could have made my self more vulnerable than I already was at this point. And that I definitely did not need.

“Alright, bye.” He sighed,

“Bye!” I said before my phone was snatched out of my hand.

“What plane?” Both Gordan and Cody asked at the same time.

“I’m going to Orlando! I leave tonight, good thing we’re going to the mall.” I grinned.

“Wow.” They replied together again.

“I know, I’m so excited!”

We then passed the exit sign for Trepid, which meant we were almost to the mall.

“So he’s taking you to Disney?” Gordan asked by himself this time.

“Yep!”

“Why?” Cody asked

“He has a break in the tour, and they’ve stopped in Orlando. He knows I’ve always wanted to go.”

“Wow.” They replied together again.

“Oh by the way Gordan, Conor says you’re jealous.”

“Well duh! The dude is taking you to Disney! I have every right to be jealous.” He scoffed as we pulled into the mall parking lot.

I glanced at Cody, who was giving me a small smile.

“I’ll bring you guys back a souvenir.” I smiled back, he nodded.
