Living for the Music

Chapter Fifty-One

“Seth,” I said softly. He stopped on his way to open the door. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”

He glanced out the window at his house. “Sure. Do you want to come in, or…”

“No, this is fine. I just…”

He sat back down, watching me expectantly. “This is really hard for me,” I muttered. “So don’t laugh, okay?”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he said with a perfectly straight face.

“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry.” The words came out in a rush, but I could tell he understood. “I probably overreacted. I know you weren’t trying to hurt me.”

“No, don’t worry about it,” he assured me. “It was my fault. I shouldn’t have read it. I know you’re like Nathan that way – don’t touch it unless you have specific permission. I was trying to help, but then when I saw the title…”

“You got curious,” I sighed. “I probably should’ve seen that coming.”

“I wasn’t going to read it, Sophie,” he told me earnestly. “Really.”

“It’s okay,” I murmured. “I think I’m over it.”

“Are you sure?” he asked hesitantly. “I mean, if you want to yell at me – get all your anger out…”

“Do you want me to yell at you?” I laughed.

“Well, I have to say… this quiet kind of acceptance is kind of freaking me out,” he admitted. “It’s not you.”

“No, this is me,” I corrected gently. “You’ve just never seen this side of me.”

He didn’t have an answer for that.

“But just for the record?” I added. “If you ever do that again, I can guarantee it won’t go over very well.”

“Not even if I see my name?” he laughed. He caught sight of my face and quickly changed his answer. “That was a joke. I have no plans to read any of your stuff without asking.”

“Good,” I smiled. “Glad we got that settled.”

We sat in silence for a moment before I began to pick up my backpack. “I should run,” I murmured. “You probably have stuff to do… with a wedding tomorrow and everything. Must be pretty hectic.”

“That’s an understatement,” he said, with a kind of half-laugh half-shudder. “It’s absolutely insane. Mom absolutely loves it, though. She can’t wait to have a daughter.” He glanced at me awkwardly. “Well, not that you… I mean…”

“No, I get it,” I muttered, staring out the window wistfully. “I bet she’s having a blast.”

“Yeah,” he agreed.

“And Gabby seems really nice, too,” I added. “I’m sure they get along great.”

“Yeah,” he repeated.

I took his lack of conversation as my cue to leave. “So I’ll see you tomorrow, then,” I finally said, opening the door.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “See you then.”

“Bye,” I muttered, shutting the door behind me. Sometimes it felt like I would never understand Seth.

So so so I really wasn't going to do a double update. I was going to go right to bed when I got home and get some sleep.... (which I really should still do... but probably won't now.)

But three people have subscribed in the past two days and I got another star. Which makes me happy. (Okay, a lot of stuff makes me happy. LOL) But anyways, thanks to the people who subscribed and anyone reading this and of course everyone that comments....

(I feel like I'm giving one of those Academy Award speeches.... Anyone? Huh... Maybe I'm more sleep deprived than I thought.)

So then I typed this up, and I made them become friends again cuz I was sick of them fighting, and now I'm starting the wedding scene in my head and it's awesome (in my head. In actual print... whole different story.)

I think people might be... surprised by what happens. But what do I know?

Sorry for the super long note... I really should take advantage of those journals... But...
I'm going to stop myself before I go off on another rant (:
