Handsome Is As Handsome Does

"Sorry for not introducing myself. I'm Daniel Rothschild, but you can call me Dan."

Adelaide couldn't help but stare. His eyes felt like they were probing her soul, digging into all of her deepest and darkest secrets, and as much as she felt like this shouldn't be happening, she couldn't help but to carry on looking into his eyes.

Her fixation was broken as a light chuckle escaped from the Adonis that was standing before her.

"I-I'm sorry, you startled me," Adelaide said, trying to regain her decorum. "I'm Adelaide, Adelaide Wilson."

"It's nice to meet you Miss Wilson. How is it that I've never seen you around before?" The smile was ever present on his face, a secret twinkle residing in his eyes.

"I'm n-not from around here, I-I'm here visiting a relative at the moment."

"Oh really? Who so? I may have heard of them..."

"Ms D'Amont?"

"Ahh Eleanor and my mother go way back! I'm guessing you'll be attending Sir Albert and Madame Elizabeth Wainwright's ball tonight in that case?"

"That I am, Mr Rothschild."

"Please, call me Dan, Mr Rothschild is my father. Well, as much as I would love to stay and chat to such a beautiful lady, I must be off to find a suit for tonight. Goodbye, for now, Miss Wilson." With a simple, friendly smile the beautiful man walked away, leaving the girl in a fluster.

It was only then that she remembered that everyone had been waiting outside for her to go back to the car. Tristan's almost permanent glare showed Adelaide just how angry he was at that moment.

"What possibly could have taken you that long?" Were the first words to leave his lips as she situated herself within the car.

"I-I'm sorry. I collided with someone, all of my stuff went everywhere..." Silence engulfed the car but the tention was ever present.

"Are you sure I look okay, Jake? I must make a good impression," the girl queried whilst trying to flatten down her dress. She felt as if she was going to look like a pebble within a collection of diamonds. She started second guessing her dress, the way she'd styled her hair, whether she had too much or too little make up on, if the heels she was wearing made her tower too high.

"Stop, Addy. Trust me, you look beautiful. Everyone is going to have their eye on you tonight." Adelaide circled her hands around his waist, giving him a tight, friendly hug.

Jacob knew just what to say to make Adelaide feel better, and although they'd only know each other for a little under a week, she couldn't help but feel a brotherly bond to him.

"Are you ready to go, M'lady?" he said in a pompous accent, extending his hand out, in which she grabbed, before they both exited the D'Amont house towards the limousine that was taking them to the ball.

Tristan had already left with his grandmother and Brittany, not wanting to riffle up any rumours between the Prince and the pauper.

The journey was a silent one, both Adelaide and Jacob were in their own worlds inside their heads. Tonight could go one of two ways. Either Adelaide is able to pull it off, act as if she were part of the 'status quo', or tonight would ruin all of her dreams of having the financial stability to start her new life with her brother, somewhere else, somewhere they both deserved.
