Goodbyes and Apologies

Giving a fake smile

"You shouldn't" I replied coldly.
"huh?" curious-faced did he ask.
"You shouldn't make promises when you're not sure that you're gonna keep it, I mean, my Dad broke his promise and left us, why would you be any different?" I rattled harshly.
No reply, he swung and creaking noises was heard from the rusty metal.
I looked at him curiously.
He was smiling, and his mini-afro was blown by the airy cold wind.
"I'm different, because I can keep it," he assured positively.
I smiled, astonished by how he can surprise me in the smallest ways.
"So can we?" he asked politely, stopping his swing, to hear my answer clearly.
I nodded and took off, walking away.
"Are you gonna come by our house?" he caught up.
"What for?" I asked straightly.
He hesitated, he seemed surprised to what I just said.
"To see me off, of course," he said.
I wanted to cry, but I gave up the water works.
"I don't want to see you off," I simply replied, walking slowly.
He walked as well and by my side, he smiled.
"Don't you want to hear me say goodbye?" he asked again.
I shook my head twice and I knew that hit him.
He paused for a moment and began to talk again.
"You really don't wanna go see me?" he added.
"I---" he cut me off.
"Please just hear my goodbye," he begged.
I rolled my eyes. "You want me to hear your goodbye?" I asked temptingly.
He nodded, actively.
"Well, then," I paused.
"What?" he asked.
I smiled. "Well, goodbye," I said stretching my hand to him.
His confused face made me flush and he smiled.
"You're crazy," he said, shaking my hand.
"That's why I'm your best friend right?" I joked.
He giggled as well did I and we both stopped.
I gave a fake smile and I knew his smile was too. That we both know we wanted to sob, but we gave up.
