My Thoughts You Can't Decode

Prologue

I squinted in the blinding sun. Brandon's car was loaded and I had to meet the boys at the McDonald's parking lot in fifteen minutes.

"Hayley?"

I averted my gaze to Brandon, my boyfriend.

"Hmm?"

"Ready to go?"

"Yeah, just soaking all of it in. I won't be back for a few months."

He squeezed my hand and I shielded my eyes from the rising fireball.

"Let's go."

I followed him to the car, daydreaming of all the other summers. The pulsing crowd singing along with me, the exhausting heat, the sweaty sunburned skin of fans pressed to mine for pictures, hanging out with other bands...

And Telle.

Last summer had passed too quickly. We had spent time after our shows in each other's arms and beating hearts. At the last show, we promised to keep in touch, but it grew more difficult once I went on Paramore's European tour and Greeley Estates began recording again. Once I met Brandon, we decided to let our summer's passion fade with winter. I couldn't help but wonder what this summer would be like...
