Tell Me How You Love Me Now

“So, you’re going to school here?” he asked

“Yeah, I think it’s called Palm Beach Lakes High School?” I ask

“Oh, you’re gonna go there too? I go to school there!” he said happily

“Oh, really? At least I know someone from there now” I smile, feeling good that I have a big chance not to be a loner after all.

“You can actually hang with my friends. Are you up for that?” he asked

“Yeah, sure. I wouldn’t have anyone to go with anyway” I gladly said

“That’s cool. We have a new friend!”

“Well, I guess I’ll have to go now?” I say, wanting to walk around

“Oh, can I have your number? Just so I can call you in case you get lost”

“Sure. Here” I grab a pen and wrote my number on the tissue

“Okay. Thanks! Nice meeting you” he waved as I walk out the door

It is really sunny and hot around here. I kinda love all the sunlight though. My mom once said that Florida had nice beaches. Maybe I’ll try going to one when I get a chance.

I walk around and saw that there were a lot of things that can be done around here. There are a lot of stores and entertainment areas. I might just like this place. After a few minutes of walking, I decided to head back to the house to get some lunch. I was getting a little hungry already.

I turned the knob and surprisingly, it wasn’t locked so I slowly opened it to go in.

“Hey Kay Leigh!” Diane popped out of nowhere

“Hey!” I greeted back

“Where did you go?” she asked as we walk to the kitchen

“I just walked around to get to know the place more” I answer pouring water in a glass

“You should have brought me with you! It’s boring to walk by yourself” she said

“Next time I will” I smile to her

“Yay!” she cheered

“Oh, you’re back! Did you have fun?” I hear Beth ask happily as she walked into the kitchen

“Yes I had fun” I replied drinking water

“Lunch is ready. You two can eat together. Me and Carl will just go out to buy some stuff” she said as she fixed her hair

“Okay” I said and sat on the island

“Don’t make Kay Leigh worry too much about you Ok?” Beth said, bending to talk to Diane

Diane nodded

“Don’t be troubled, Diane is a nice girl. I like spending time with her” I reassured Beth

“Thank you. We’ll be back by six?” she said

“Sure, anytime you both want” I smile as I opened the door for them

“Thanks Kay Leigh” they both say then walked out

“So, what do you want to do now?” I ask Diane as we both stand by the hallway

“Eat?” she asked with uncertainty

I laugh

“Right of course. Let’s eat then” I say taking her hand and then carried her to make her sit on top of the chair.

“What’s the food?” I ask

“Pasta” she said then clapped her hands

“Ohh, pasta. Looks good’ I mutter eyeing a circle pyrex on the table

“It is!” Diane exclaimed excitedly

We both eat the very delicious pasta. I am starting to love Beth now because of her cooking.

“I am so full” I breathed as I held my stomach

“Me too!” Diane said burping

I laugh weakly then took our plates to the sink and started washing

“I’ll help!” Diane said holding a towel

“You don’t have to” I smile to her

“No, I really wipe the dishes” she said matter of factly

“Okay then if that’s what you like” I tell her, handing her a plate

This is actually fun. Back at home, I never washed dishes because we’ve got enough maids to do that already. I have always wanted to feel how it was like to wash the dishes. It is really fun because Diane was so bubbly and funny the whole time. It was nice to have her around.

If she wasn’t here, it would be really boring.

The day ended without me fully noticing it. I guess I had too much fun that I wasn’t paying any attention to the time. We are now having dinner. I like the feeling of being to able to actually eat with people. I usually eat alone in my room back home or sometimes, with my mom. But here, we’re five people eating together.

“Carl, did Elliot tell you where he is already? I thought he was coming home tonight?” Beth asked

“He just called me and he said he’d eat out with his friends tonight.”

“Boys” Beth said and shook her head

“Let him savor his remaining hours of vacation” Carl laughed

“Looks like he really loathed going to school” I tell them

“Yeah. He likes going out and bumming more” Diane giggled

“He doesn’t really hate it. It’s just that he finds other things more interesting” Beth said

Dinner ended and I quickly went up my room. I’d be going to school tomorrow. What will happen tomorrow will determine who I am going to be for the next two years I will be studying here. I hope it all goes well.

I hear a light knock on my door

“It’s open” I say

I see Beth go in the room

“Kay Leigh, for tomorrow, I just want to tell you not to be nervous and that you don’t have to be afraid. All the kids there are nice. Besides, I’ll be sending Elliot to accompany you. I am sure you’ll make a lot of friends” Beth told me with a smile

“Thanks for trying to comfort me” I say, a little touched. She made an effort to make me feel better even if we only met personally yesterday.

“Tell me if you need anything, I’ll just be downstairs dear” she told me as she opened the door then exited the room.

Honestly, after what she told me, I feel a lot better now. I am still nervous but I feel more courageous after what she told me. I slowly fell asleep, more content than ever.

I wake up in the middle of the night when I hear a loud thud coming from outside. What can that be? I stood up and slowly walked to open my door. I look outside, but all I could see was darkness. What can that noise be? I walked out and stood by the hallway. I see a person’s shadow walking nearer to me. I suddenly freaked out so I stepped away from the shadow.

“Who are you?” I ask with a shaky voice

“Who are you?” I hear an unfamiliar man’s voice

I immediately thought that the person might be a thief so I became more terrified. What if he tries to kill me or something? The man walked nearer to me but I stepped backward every time he stepped nearer.

“Don’t go near me” I tried to look strong

“I don’t know you. Your voice is unfamiliar. Why are you here?” the man asked again

“Get away” I threatened as I see the shadow continue to walk near me

“I am not gonna hurt you” the guy laughed

They always say that. He walked a lot nearer which sent me off the edge causing me to punch him on the face.

“Ow! Shit! What the hell was that for?” the guy yelled causing Beth and Carl to wake up. The lights open and I finally see the man I punched.

“Oh my! Are you Ok?” Beth rushed to the guy and tried to see what was wrong

Carl stood there and laughed

“Wha— do you know him?” I ask confused

“Oh, dear, this is Elliot, my son I was talking about” Beth said

“That is so funny. You were punched by a girl, son” Carl chuckled

“I—I am so sorry, I didn’t know it was him. I thought he was a thief”
