Sequel: Black Rose

Statues Without Eyes

Where the Wind Blows

Once I found Jake, I seen that he was at his house, just sitting outside on the front porch. I parked my car, then walked up to him as he slowly stood up.
"Hey,"I smiled at him,"Sorry for the stunt yesterday. What's up?"
"It's ok,"He shrugged putting his hands in his pockets,"I knew you'd end up doing something like that."
"Well you are the best friend,"I smiled.
Jake smiled as he looked down, I knew something was wrong but he wouldn't come out and say it.
"Jake, you're starting to scare me a bit."
"I don't know how to put this,"He shrugged as he looked back at me.
"Put what?"
"I'm leaving."
"You're leaving? As in leaving how?"
"I'm getting out of Miami for a while,"He ran a hand through his hair.
"Oh,"I nodded thinking to myself,"How long?"
"A few months, maybe at the least."
"Months,"I tried my best to process what he was telling,"When are you leaving?"
"2 days."
"2 days, wow, talk about short notice."
"I already told the lab I'm leaving yesterday and I was going to tell you but-"
"I'm so stupid,"I rolled my eyes as I leant against his house.
"No you're not,"He smiled.
"But two days,"I could feel the tears sting my eyes,"That's not very long."
"I know,'He touched my arm lightly,"We can still hang out before then."
"I know,"I choked back the tears,"You're going to make me cry."
"Aww babe,"Jake wrapped his arms around me as I cried into his shoulder a bit,"I guess it's a bad time to give you what I wanted to when you came out here."
"What?"I sniffled as I looked up at him and he pulled out keys out of his pocket.
"My place is yours now, so you know I'll be back,"He smiled at me,"I'm leaving some of my stuff here too."
"Jake,"I looked at the keys,"I'm staying with Ryan-"
"I know but as much as you two tend to argue, you need this."
"Thanks,"I smiled taking the keys out of his hand as I put them in my pocket,"I um, I got to get to work."
"I know,"He smiled lightly,"Ryan knows and he's letting us hang out tonight and tomorrow."
"I'll talk to you then,"I smiled lightly as I walked back to my car.

Getting to the lab, was hard, I couldn't concentrate on anything but Jake leaving. Which made my vision slightly blurred from the tears that were falling down my face. When I parked my car, my eyes were red and puffy from crying and stained from where my make up ran. I did my best to dry my eyes and nose as I headed into the lab. This was different than all the other times Jake was gone from me. I mean when he was under cover, he still managed to get time to see me when I competed but now, now was just so not working with me right now.
As I headed to the locker room, I slowly felt the tears stinging my eyes again but I pushed them back.

"You ok?"I heard from the side of me as I turned to notice Natalia smilling at me.
"Fine,"I sniffled,"Just a rough morning."
"Morning sickness?"She looked at me but I shook my head.
"No, best friend complications or whatever."
"Oh,"She looked at me then realized what I was talking about,"Oh you mean Jake?"
"Yeah,"I sniffled again,"I don't want to think about it right now but can't, it sucks."
"Aww, Sy,"Natalia hugged me.
"I'm ok,"I pushed back the tears,"I need to head out there, prepare myself for whataver Horatio has to lecture me about."

Smiling lightly, I left Natalia to head out to the lab where everyone just kept giving me small smiles which so wasn't helping me. When I got into the lab with Ryan, I was so thankful for him since he treated me like it was a normal day which is what I wanted, it kept my mind off things and that's all I needed right now.
"So are you heading to Jake's after this?"Ryan asked as he looked at a piece of evidence.
"I think,"I shrugged,"Unless you want me to come home."
"No, go have fun,"He smiled,"Just be home before 1 or something."
"I was thinking 10 since I'm still kinda tired then the next day I'm hanging out with Jake since he's leaving at 6 that night."
"Sounds good,"He smiled with a nod.
"Oh and you so didn't tell H, did you?"
"Uh-"
"Ryan,'I groaned as I sighed.
"Ok, so not really, just hinted,"He winced at me as rolled my eyes.
"Couldn't you just say something else?"
"It's not like you can hide it much longer,"He smirked.
"Shut up,"I hip bumped him lightly.
"Ok, kids keep it home,"Calleigh laughed as she walked into the room.
"Hey Calleigh,"I smiled.
"Hey,"She smiled at me,"I need to steal you for the rest of the day."
"Ok,"I shrugged.
"I'll have her back later, I promise,"She smiled at Ryan as I waved towards him.

"So where are we headed?"I asked as I climbed into the car with Calleigh.
"We have to go talk to people who worked with the victim again."
"Fun,"I nodded.
"Hey, sorry about Jake-"
"It's ok,"I stopped her,"If it's ok with you I'd rather not talk about it right now. Just keep my head clear of everything."
"Ok sweetie,"She smiled lightly.
"I'll talk to you if I need anything though ok?"
"Ok,"She smiled as we headed out to the business.

Yeah, that was interesting, people can be so rude sometimes, I tell ya. That and they tend to act like "nothing" happened or whatever. It's funny when as a profiler you can start to tell when people lie just from behaviors, gestures, speech patterns, things that maybe the average CSI wouldn't notice. I guess that's why Calleigh called me out with her, I guess I should feel honored. Funny thing is, my profoling skills seriously start to kick into overdrive when I'm depressed or not in a good mood. So guess who didn't catch me on a good day?
By time it was 5, I was clocking out from today's work load to head to Jake's place which in turn was my new place I guess. Ryan was gathering his things as I walked up to him.

"So I'll see you tonight, I promise,"I kissed him lightly on the lips.
"Don't get into too much trouble,"He smiled at me as I broke away.
"I won't,"I smiled,"Don't freak out about me."
"Me? Freak out?"Ryan laughed.
"Of course not,"I smirked then walked towards the door,"Don't be too bored."
"I won't,"Ryan smiled as he watched me walk off then out the door.
Smiling to myself, I headed to Jake's which weighed heavily on my heart.

Unlocking his door, I seen Jake moving packed boxes around which really put it into reality that he was leaving me soon.
"Wow, way to make my day feel great,"I mentioned saracastically as Jake noticed me.
"Oh,"He sat the box down to walk over to me,"I'm sorry, I can stop."
"No,"I shook my head,"You need to pack."
"I'm sorry Sy,"Jake smiled lightly at me.
"So you never did say where you're going."
"I was thinking Chicago is nice this time of year,"He smiled.
"Sounds good,"I sat on a chair of his,"But who else am I going to go to when I'm fighting with Ryan?"
"You can still call,"He smiled at me lightly touching my cheek,"Besides you have to tell me the progress of that little one."
"Of course,"I smiled at him as I dried a tear out of my eye,"So what do you have planned tonight."
"Promise me you'll stop with the water works?"Jake smirked.
"I don't-"
"For today?"
"For today,"I smiled.
"Good, because I don't want you that sad. We're having fun tonight."
