Sequel: Black Rose

Statues Without Eyes

It's in the Past

Preparing myself for a long day with Jesse wasn't too bad. I mean I could hold my own against him just like always but still. I think Ryan was more stressed about me going to work with him even though he trusted me.

"Sylar Caine," Jesse smiled as he got into the driver's seat, "You would've thought you'd become a cop."
"I'm not a cop," I crossed my arms, "I'm a CSI and profiler."
"Still," He smirked as he started the car, "You always did have a soft spot for cops too."
"Do not," I blushed as he chuckled to himself as he pulled onto the road.
"Do too. Jake became your best friend, then there was me, now Ryan-"
"Ugh, whatever, " I rolled my eyes, "What about you? It's always the dark haired girls for you."
"So, I like brunettes," He shrugged, "Problem?"
"How is Anna?" I half smirked, half glared at him as he got quiet quickly.
"You're bringing her up again?"
"It's just a question," I looked at him as he shifted, "So I mean, do you follow her now? Take her on dates? What?"
"It's complicated," Jesse shrugged as I caught onto something.
"Oh my god, she's here in Miami isn't she?"
"No..."
"Yes, she is!" I rolled my eyes, "God, is that the only reason you came back to Miami? Because you're so love struck by her and let me guess she isn't in love with you?"
"No, it's nothing like that."
"Here I thought you were serious about coming back for me," I scouffed, rolling my eyes again.
"No, I did," He huffed as he tried to find an explaination, "I mean Anna did move her but she doesn't know I'm here. Horatio called me to come in to work."
"So, how did you know I was here?"
"You always did say that you liked the weather," He smiled as I looked away from him in silence.

"You know," Jesse mentioned as he drove the car through down town when he pointed to a high building, "I still remember when we had our first kiss."
"You do?" I questioned as I looked at him as he nodded.
"It was right there," He pointed to the reception hall building, "We snuck up to the roof after some fancy dinner thing, just the two of us. It was our third date and you still hadn't kiss me."
"I'm not easy," I laughed as he smiled.
"No, but it was special. It was beautiful out that night, the stars shone, you looked like a goddess-"
"I didn't not," I blushed.
"You did too," Jesse smiled, "You were teasing me the whole night, until finally you just did it."
"It was sweet," I smiled at him, "It seemed like the perfect moment."
"It was," He smiled as he looked at me, "Then things only got heated from there."
"Not for a while though," I pointed out to him, "Again, I wasn't easy."
"Of course you weren't," He smiled as he turned the corner, "So what about you and Ryan?"
"At first it moved fast," I shrugged, "But not too fast. Now, now it's just perfect."
"Perfect?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Ok, not perfect," I rolled my eyes with a sigh, "But he's that Prince Charming girls always look for, no offense to you or anything."
"None taken."
"I mean, you are sweet, caring," I looked at him with a smirk, "And have a killer set of abs but in the end, when you really think about it, we weren't meant to be together."
"People can change their fate though."
"They can," I smiled lightly at him, "But did you honestly think that our frenemy relationship could stay like that forever? Someone was bound to really hurt someone and they did."
"I never meant-"
"I meant me," I looked at him, "I know you say, it's not my fault but I can see it in your eyes, you really wanted to be a dad."
Jesse sighed as I gave him a light smile, "I wanted you to be ok more anything. I prayed that God would take me instead of you and the baby."
"I didn't know," I looked at him shocked as he nodded.
"Yeah, well," He parked the car to get out, "It was in the past."

Heading up to the crime scene, we got our work done which took a while. I was starved as we finished up as I looked towards Jesse who was stretching.

"Hey, would the newly engaged Sylar mind if I took her to lunch?"
"No," I smiled at him, "As long as you don't strand me there."
"It's a deal," He stuck his hand out as I shook it.
"You're buying, right?" I smirked as he nodded, "Good, because I'm starved."
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were pregnant again," He smiled as I turned to glare at him.
"Funny. Don't even joke about it," I hissed, "I just haven't ate at all today."

Getting to the resturant, we both sat down and enjoyed lunch as friends as the topic of going to the shooting range in to work with different guns came up. I mean sure I knew how to use a gun and he did but Jesse wanted me to try out another for some reason. I didn't object either, I'm always up for a challenge when it comes to things like that.

At the shooting range, I was working with my gun when Jesse handed me one of his that I never used before.

"Here, I'll help you," He smirked as he stood behind me to hold the gun with me in my hands.

I felt a slight heat rush over me as his arms went around me and I could feel his breath against my skin. It broke my concentration for a bit which I had no idea why. After I fired the gun, I brought it down but Jesse's arms didn't move from mine.

"Thank you," I manged to get out as he was still not moving when my phone buzzed, "It's Ryan."

"What's he want?" Jesse asked as I looked back at him.
"I've got to head back to the lab to help him," I moved slowly out of his arms as he nodded.
"I'll take you back," He smiled.
"How else would I get there?" I smirked as I got back in the car.

As we got in the lab, I walked past Natalia with a smile as Jesse was walking behind me. I noticed as he stopped to talk to her, that Natalia looked like a school girl with a crush as they talked. I made a mental note of trying to make something work for her as I walked into the lab with Ryan.

"Hey," I smiled at him as he worked on something, "You wanted me?"
"Yeah, we're backed up and short staffed," He nodded, "So I'll need all the help I can get."
"Sounds good," I smiled as I got to work.

"Hey Ryan," I thought as we were working.
"Hmm?"
"Your birthday's next weekn," I threw out into the open, "Is there anything I should get you?"
"All I need is you and Tyler," He smiled as I rolled my eyes.
"Not good enough," I giggled a bit, "You're into rock music right?"
"What kind of question is that?" He smirked as I shrugged.
"Nothing," I shrugged as I knew what I was going to do but wasn't going to tell him.
"Sylar."
"What?"
"Whatever, it is, no."
"You don't even know what I'm thinking," I laughed.
"Yes I do."
"I'm thinking that this lab should have a radio," I laughed as his mouth dropped open, "Told you."
"Funny."
"Hey," I took my gloves off, "I'll be right back. I need to go make a phone call."
"Ok?"
"I"ll be back," I smiled as I walked out the door to take my phone out.

"Jake?"
"Yeah," He yawned.
"Did you get the tickets?"
"Yeah, 3rd row's the best I could get though."
"Thanks," I smiled at him.
"Does Ryan even know you got him tickets to Bon Jovi?"
"No, and don't say anything, it's a surprise."
"My lips are sealed," He smiled into the phone.
"Thanks," I smiled, "How's Tyler?"
"Good, I just gave him a bottle and he's asleep again," He yawned again, "So I'll see you at 5?"
"Yeah, I'll finally be home," I sighed, "Laters."
