Midnight Runner

Chapter 13: Somewhere between here.

The genie gave the women 3 wishes. “My first wish is money.” The lady said. “The wish is done, second wish.” The Genie replied back. “Fame, I want to be famous.” She smiled from ear to ear. “Done, and the last wish.” He said. “I wish that me and my love will be together forever.” Her eyes lightened up and the genie shook his head. “I am terribly sorry but you were not meant to be.” He sighed and disappeared and left the women in tears.

I laid on my bed remembering that paragraph from this book I read a while back called “Never Forever”. The women wanted so bad for her and her husband to live ever after together but knowing that from the genie she wished upon she slowly gave up on life. Tears fell down my cheeks as I remembered that book like it was happening to me just in a different way.

I gave it a couple more minutes before I got up and walked down stairs. “Uncle Mark.” I called out before I stepped to the window that was in the living room. “Oh right he’s at work.” I sighed walking into the kitchen pulling a box of cereal from the top of the fridge. “Fruity Pebbles.” I took a deep breath shaking my head. “Uncle Mark can sometimes be a fruity pebble.” I laughed silently as I poured the cereal in a white bowl. “What happened last night?” I repeated to myself over and over. “Well you could say I have a chunk on my skin missing.” I turned around to see Jacob kneeling on the counter. “What?” I looked at him in confusion. “Well last night you wanted to get out of the room so bad that your mouth slipped from my hand and you ripped a piece of skin off.” He said showing me his hand smiling from ear to ear. “Oh my god, I did this?!” I grabbed his hand with widening eyes. “Yah, but it’s fine now.” He smiled rubbing my head.

Jacob sat down at the table stretching his legs out so he wouldn’t hit the bottom of the table. “So what are we having for breakfast?” He smiled towards me slinging one arm over the back of the chair. “You should know Jake you made the cereal.” I smiled wickedly as I pulled up the box to show him the name. “That hurts.” He smiled putting his hand over his heart. I smiled shaking my head as I poured the milk and gave the bowl to him. “How am I supposed to eat this, it’s like baby food?” He said picking up the bowl and moving it in circle motions. “Your not, that’s mine.” I laughed as I hit him slightly on the shoulder. “That’s alright I’ll just raid your kitchen.” He said getting up and walking passed me and to the cupboards. “You might starve, we don’t have anything.” I laughed again before sitting down as I watched Jacob search for something to eat so he could fill that stomach of his.

I sat there gazing at him until he looked over his shoulder and saw me. “Like what you see?” He smiled and shook his but. “Ah, Jake!” I looked away in embarrassment. “Girls are allowed to do that but you, that’s just wrong!” I laughed trying to stop from blushing. “But you were looking.” He smirked walking over to the table with a large mixing bowl in his right hand with the whole box of the cereal in it. “Ugh!” I groaned pointing to the large bowl sitting in front of me. “It’s not that big!” He shouted at me jokingly while he sat down. “What happened last night?” I sighed being disappointed that I already hurt him. “Nothing really you just took a huge chunk from my hand and you got really annoying to handle but besides that it was all good.” He smiled taking the huge mixing spoon, swooping up the cereal and shoving it into his mouth.

We sat there in silence finishing breakfast. “Were going to ride my bikes today.” He grinned brightly after he gulped down the third bite. “We, and who decided this!?” I stared at him as my eyes widened. “Me and you haven’t done it yet.” He laughed shaking his head from side to side. “I have no other choice do I?” I asked him again. “Nope, not really.” Jacob chuckled as he lifted the bowl up and slurped it down in one chug. “Fine.” I said grabbing his and my bowl and walking to the sink to wash it out. “Well let’s go.” Jacob said standing up from the table and throwing his arms up in the air to stretch. “Wait, What, Jake I’m still wearing the same cloths from yesterday?” I turned back towards him turning the hot water off. “Yah, so I wore these shorts yesterday and you don’t see me complaining.” Jacob laughed wrinkling his nose to me.

Sighing I slipped on my tan and green sandals and walked out the door behind Jacob. The bikes appeared in my eyesight, they were sitting right on the curb. “How did you get two bikes here?” I looked at him with a weird face. “I have people.” He crossed his arms, shaking his head up and down trying to act cool. “Oh so you mean Embry?” I laughed. “You just had to ruin my moment.” Jacob threw his arms up in the air and walked over to the bike turning to me. “Get on.” He smiled waving his hand to usher me over. “Are you sure it’s safe?” Walking to him as I checked out the bike. “I never said it was safe, I just said we were going to ride some bikes today.” Jacob helped me onto the bike, putting on the helmet and showing how to control and ride it.

It had taken longer than we both thought. By time we were ready to ride, the clock had struck 2:00 pm. “Sorry for taking so long.” I apologized sympathetically. “Nah, it’s ok I don’t mind.” Jacob laughed getting on the bike that stood behind mine. Jacob started up his bike following mine he drove up to the right side of me. “Ready!?” He shouted over the roar of the bikes as I put my thumb up starting mine up. “Just follow me!” He smiled flipping his thumb up and riding off first. “Easy for you to say, ugh!” I yelled back following behind and soon seeing him in sight.

“Finally, I was starting worry!” Jacob laughed slowing down to my speed. “There is a hill coming up so you need to speed up so you can make it and beware there is a sharp corner!” He yelled as loud as he could. “Jacob, I don’t think this is a good idea!” I Yelled back looking to him then back to the street. “Just follow me and watch what I do and you will be just fine!” Jacob winked at me smiling. I was afraid of this, I barley knew how to ride and Jacob trusted me enough. That hurt even more.

I sped up as we started going up the hill and it somewhat started slowing down so I stepped on the gas pedal. “Your doing great!” Jacob looked back smiling big as his bike jumped over the hill and landed perfectly. I came up to the end of the up going hill jumping higher than Jacob had. “Jacob.” I whispered as I saw him on the other side of the corner watching me helplessly.
