Midnight Runner
Chapter 3: In the Night.
As the sun arose from behind the night sky Jacob was still awake. Billy came in strolling himself along when he opened the fridge for some orange juice. “Now that it’s daytime we can see better.” Billy looked at him but Jacob didn’t say anything he was disappointed. “She couldn’t have gotten to far.” Jacob didn’t say anything again instead he put on the same shirt and walked out side as it was still raining. “I’m going to go find her.” He said sternly as he walked towards one of the curbs as one the phone rang. “Jacob is looking again today, but Mark I’m seriously, terribly sorry she said you were picking her up and I never know when you have your days off.” Billy was blaming all of this on himself. “Billy it’s fine just keep an eye out.” Mark said. “Sure thing.” Billy hung up then re-opened the door and strolled down the ramp going in the opposite direction.
Once Jacob saw the La Push woods panic filled every thought in his mind as he ran towards it. “Paige!” He yelled it over and over and noticed muddy foot prints from either early today or late last night, it was worth a try. He followed them slowly and carefully until he saw a body in the distance. “Paige!!” She laid there passed out, dirty, and bleeding. Jacob picked her up holding her in both arms as he ran out of the woods and back home calling the police. “Jacob you found her!” Billy was relieved. “Damn it, by time they get here she’ll be dead she’s barley breathing now.” Jacob ran out of the house and with the same long lasting speed he ran to the nearest hospital, which was in Forks. “Hang on Paige, just don’t die!” He yelled it to her over again until he felt better emotionally. He barged into the hospital yelling for help. “She needs help please, she has a heart disease that is going to kill her if you don’t help her now!” The doctors and nurses were surprised on how tall and muscular he was. Jacob placed her on the bed as they ran down the hall to the emergency room. Jacob had to wait.
Hours had passed and he sat there on the chair closest to the doors that led to the emergency room. “Doc is she okay?” The doctor walked up to him and reached up and patted his shoulder like it was nothing. “Yes, but any later and her heart would have stopped.” Jacob sat back down blaming himself; he was truly like his old man. “When can I see her?” Jacob said looking at the doctor. “Well we have to do some more tests to make sure her heart is okay enough then we well come and tell you.” Jacob nodded as he walked back in those doors.
While he waited he had called his dad along with Mark who were rushing on their way right now.
I woke up to the same room that I was in time and time again, my stomach and head hurt. I looked around the room and saw him and smiled slightly. “Jake.” I whispered shaking my head as I laid my head back down looking at him. When he woke up and rushed to my side. “Your okay.” He sighed in relief as he fell to his knees. “Jake are you okay!?” He looked up at my smiling a huge smile. “Yah just haven’t slept cause I was too worried about you.” I laughed a shook my head, that poor overworked soul he had major problems but it was fine with me.
Later that night. The room was dark, I herd doctors walking around, and Jacob had left earlier so he could get some sleep for school tomorrow. One thing that I never thought about was how he had got so tall, when we were younger he was surprisingly shorter then me. His attitude, was different too he seemed more arrogant, sarcastic, weird but there was the old Jake mixed in with the new.
I laid there looking up to the ceiling…I didn’t remember what I was thinking but I knew I was lost in thought until screams of pain were broadcast threw the air. I rose up in shock and horror and I listened to the screams until there was nothing. Slowly getting up and out of bed I creped to the door and still nothing, no sound, no people, silent. I cracked the door open to see down the hallway but all the lights were blown out. Slowly but surely my eyes a gusted to the darkness and I steadily snuck down the hallway were I still saw nothing. I decided turn back to go back where my room was until I saw bloody red glowing eyes staring at me where my room was. It was like it paralyzed me with its eyes and little by little it wandered towards me. It was full aware that I couldn’t move and I wouldn’t move…why would I move? It would just catch me and tear me apart into pieces like a paper doll. Then I thought about it was the same thing that was chasing me in the forest it felt as if it was the grim reaper disguised as some kind of beast and was here to reap my soul.
