Life on Banana Street

A Little Suprise

-3 Months Later-

I woke up. Today was my last day here. I better get packing. I sat up but I was all wrong. Where was I and where were my things? I have never seen this place before.

"Matt!"

No one answered.

"Hello! Anyone here?"

"Yeah, I'll be out in a minute," said an unfamiliar voice.

A man came in the room I was in and he was wearing a silky red robe.

"Who are you?"

"Don't you remember last night?"

"No!"

"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. You're pregnant."

I screamed and woke up. Oh God it was just a dream.

There was something about my room that was different. Something didn't seem right. I got up and walked to the bathroom and someone grabbed my mouth.
I know I've felt these hands before. I looked in the mirror and saw Billie.

"Billie! Oh my God! I thought you would be dead!" I turned around and hugged him. "How did you know I was here?"

"My kidnapper got caught and I kept running all the way to your house. But you weren't there, so I asked Tre and he gave me the address."

"I'm so happy to see you." I hugged him once more.

"Yeah, can your brother take me back home?"

"Yeah, of course."

-California-

"Bye Billie."

"Bye Addie. I'll come visit you sometime."

"I'd like that. See ya."

He waved and we were off. He turned on Jeff's street.

"Wha?"

"I'm taking you to Jeff's to say you're back."

"Thanks Matt." We arrived and he pulled into his drive way.

I went up to his front door and knocked and he answered.

"Addie! I missed you!" He hugged me and kissed my cheek.

"What the hell?"

"Sorry, I was just excited."

"Yeah I can see that," I said looking down and blushing.

"Shit. I didn't mean-"

"It's ok Jeff. I don't care."

"Wanna come in?"

"No, I can't, I have to get back home."

"Oh. Ok. Call me when you get there so I know you're safe."

"Developing a crush there Jellochick?"

"No..."

"Ok. Bye. See you at school sometime this week."

"Bye Addie."

I got back in the car and Matt drove me back home.

-My House-

"Adeline! I'm very disappointed in you."

"Dad, what did I do?"

"You turned us in."

"No I didn't."

"Ok? Then who did?"

"I don't know! But it wasn't me. I gotta shit. Unless you want me to shit on you, then you better get out of my fucking way. I'm not scared of you or mom anymore. I'm standing my own ground. You don't control me anymore."

"What was that?"

"What are you gonna do, Dad? If you beat me, then I WILL turn you in and you'll be in jail for 5 years just like mom."

He looked at me with fire in his eyes, I could see his veins popping out of his forehead.

"That's what I thought. Either you leave me the fuck alone or you won't see me for a long, long time."
He looked befuddled.
I went up to my room and practiced my drums.
I had my headphones on as I was drumming and someone came behind me and put their arms around me and started kissing my neck.
I took off my headphones, put down my sticks, and turned around.

"Tre! I missed you!"

"I missed you too babe. Never leave me again."

"Never. It was the stupidest thing I ever did. I'm not living unless I'm with you."

He smiled and kissed me romantically until my dad came in my room.

"Get the fuck away from my daughter right now!" He picked up my alarm clock and threw it in his direction.

"Dad! Leave him the fuck alone! He's my boyfriend and you're gonna have to live with that. I love him and there's nothing you can do about it."

"Adeline, I just care about your safety."

"You don't care about anything besides cheating on mom."

He stared at me like I wasn't supposed to know.

"It's kind of obvious, Dad. But yeah! I have something to use against you now."

"I don't care if I do go to jail. You're getting on my last nerves!" I heard him go down to the garage and spill a few things. I think he got a garden tool to come after me.

"Tre, no matter what happens to me, know that I will always love you. Now go." I kissed him sloppily.

"I'm not leaving without you. I'm not gonna let you die because of me. Come on."

I grabbed my unpacked bag and Tre and I went out the window to his house.

"Mom, Addie's gonna stay with us for a while."

"Why?"

"Her dad went psycho and tried to kill her."

"Oh, well, she can stay in your room, I guess."

"Thanks mom."

He took me up to his room and took my bag and put it by the closet.
I burst out crying.

"Addie, don't cry. It's ok. You're safe from him now." He came over and comforted me.

"No, Tre. I'm right next door to him. That isn't necessarily safe."

"It's safer than actually being in that house."

"True, but still."

Canada came in the room.

"Tre, clean out the hair in the bathtub. It's Addie! What are you doing here? Why are you sad?"

"My dad went psycho. I almost got killed."

"Are you ok?" she said coming over to me and sitting by me.

"I'm fine now."

"I'm really sorry, Addie. If there's anything we can do, we'll do it."

"I'm really glad you guys are my friends. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Well, I'm gonna go take a shower. I smell weird."

"That's nice."

"I know, right?"

I smiled and she left. Tre immediately started kissing me.
We were laying on the bed and he was holding me close, about to fall asleep like that.

"Tre, there's no place I'd rather be than in your arms."

"There's no place I'd rather you be than in my arms."

I stared into his blue eyes and he looked in my green ones.

"I love you Addie. And how you stood up for me at your house. It was incredible. You did that for me."

"Of course. I'd do anything for you."

He smiled and we drifted off to sleep.

-The Next Morning-

I woke up in Tre's strong, muscular arms. I moved and he loosened his grip.

"Morning Addie."

"Morning Tre. Did you sleep ok?"

"Of course. You were here."

"Tre, you're so sweet. I don't know how I got you."

"I asked you out. I don't know how I got you."

"I get to go back to school today. My brother enrolled me yesterday while I was standing up for you."

"Yay! Everyone gets to see you again! They get to see that you're mine."

"They already knew I was yours..."

"Well, they get to know even more."

"You're so weird."

"Yeah..."

He got up and changed his shirt. His abs are fine!

"Yeah, you like that, don't you?"

"Hell yeah," I said getting up and going over to my bag. I changed into a Berkeley High School T-Shirt with the school colors being green, black, and white and left my faded holey jeans on. I put on my studded belt and turned to Tre.

"Did that turn you on?"

"Yeah. You know it did."

I put on my Converse and grabbed my athletics bag. "Coming?"

"Anywhere with you."

-School-

"Welcome back, Ms. Hersh. Please take your normal seat."

"Ok." I walked back to the end of the row next to Tre.

"Hey long time no see!"

"I know, right?"

"Ms. Hersh! Please pay attention!"

"Sorry, Mrs. Fat Ass," I mumbled under my breath.

And sure enough, Jeff passed me a note.

"I have something important to tell you!"

"What? Jell-o?"

"No...hi."

"Oh my God Jeff. You would say that."

"I would. Well g2g now. PAYING ATTENTION!"

Wow, I said to myself.
I looked over at Tre. I was crazy for him. I imagined our life if we were married. Fights here and there...at least 3 kids. Dogs and any other pets our children desired. It was only too good to be true.

"Ms. Hersh! Would you care to join us?"

Tre shoved my shoulder. "Addie, wake up!"

"Sausage!" I said lifting my head up to see everyone staring at me.

"You fell asleep."

"Oh. I knew that. Shut up!"

I looked around my desk and saw several paper balls. Damnit Jeff!

I opened the first one.

Blank. Yay! I opened the rest and they were blank also.
What was the purpose of this?

-After School-

"Tre, I need some more clothes. I need to go get some."

"Either I'm coming with you, or we're going to the mall to get you some more. You're not going alone."

"Ok, you can come with me."

We reached the door and I put my key in the knob but the door pushed open.

"What the hell?"

"I don't know, just hurry up and get your clothes."

We ran upstairs but he stayed at the top while I ran into my room. I screamed.

"Addie! What's wrong?" he asked from the hallway.

"Tre! Come in here!"

He walked in the room and almost fell over.

"Holy fuck!"

"I know!" We stared at what was on my bed. My dead dad.

"Daddy?"

"Oh now you like him?"

"Tre, you don't know. He's still my dad."

We stood at silence at the body that lay in front of us.
