Life on Banana Street

A Normal 6 Months

"Jeff? What the? No!"

"Sorry, it's just that... I don't know."

"Me either. So quit."

"I like snorting," he said. "Jell-o powder."

"It doesn't look right."

"Poop on your sister!"

"Poop on your sister's suitcase! Oh!"

"Poop on your sister's hairbrush."

"Why would I wanna do that? Her hairbrush is abnormally hairy."

"Hairy poop! Yeah!"

"Yeah that's pretty weird."

He smiled. "That's what I'm here for."

-A Few Minutes Later-

"So, has Tre asked you out yet?"

"Nope."

"Are you disappointed?"

"No, not really. I mean, I guess I am, but not a lot."

"What would you do if Nicky asks you out?"

"You seriously want me to respond to that?"

He nodded.

"I would scream like a little school girl and shit my pants."

"Ha ha! Yeah. What if he asked me out?"

"Oh my... "

He looked like he was thinking. "Yeah I'd do the same thing."

"Yeah, so tomorrow, I'm going over to Billie's new house. My mom wants me to. I have no idea why. I think my dad made her say it."

"Wow. So, tell me how it is."

"Oh, please. Of course I will."

-The Next Day-

I came up to Billie before class.

"Billie, we need to talk."

"About what?"

"Us. Come on."

I grabbed his arm and took him to Mr. Fedie's room.

"Ok... what is it?"

"Why did you break up with me?"

"I thought it was hard for you to go out with someone like me. And your mom."

"It's not true. None of it. Who gives a fuck what my mom thinks?"

"Uh no one?"

"Right. So, wanna get back together?"

"Yeah."

"Yay!" I kissed his cheek softly as the bell rang.

"Shit. We're late."

"So... "I said.

We walked back to Mr. Hamilton's room hand in hand.

"Oh, how nice of you to join us, Adeline and Mr. Armstrong."

"Sorry Mr. Hamilton."

I took my seat at the back by Tre.

"Addie?"

"Yes Tre?"

"I have a question."

"Shoot."

"Wanna go out with me?"

Fuck! I just got back together with Billie!

"Um, I'm sort of... taken."

"By who?"

"Billie."

"I thought you broke up with him."

"We just got back together. That's where we were."

"Damnit. And I really liked you too. I thought you were different, but oh well."

"Tre, it's not like that. If I didn't get back with Billie I totally would have said yes."

"Really?"

"Hell yeah! I really like you too."

"Whoa. Now don't go cheating."

"I would never cheat."

"Yeah. Uh huh."

"Mrs. Hersh! It would be nice if you would pay attention instead of talking to Mr. Wright."

"Sorry Mr. Hamilton."

-Next Period-

I walked into Mr. Fedie's room.

"Hi Mr. Fedie!"

"Hi Addie! I have a new seating arrangement. I think you'd be pretty happy with it."

I walked over to his desk and looked at the seating chart.

"Wow. I sit by Tre, Billie, and Jeff. Thanks Mr. Fedie!"

"Anything for my favorite student."

"You're my favorite teacher Mr. Fedie."

"So, I hear you're going out with Billie again."

"Yeah who told you?"

"I heard it in the hallway."

"Wow. I only told one person."

"Yeah, well this school is small. Everything gets around. Fast."

"Ain't that the truth?"

He laughed and pat my back. "Go take a seat."

"I love your 409, Mr. Fedie."

"Everyone digs my 409. It's the Shiite."

I laughed. "Yeah, Mr. Fedie. That's it."

Tre came in.

"Hey, I can't talk after school. I have to give this kid drum lessons. His teacher quit."

"You play the drums?"

"Hell yeah."

"Yay! Me too!"

"Awesome! Maybe I can teach you."

"So, who are you teaching?"

"John something or other."

"Ugh he makes me sick."

"Yeah he looks like it. All snobbish and what not."

"Wow. Big words. I'm impressed."

"Better believe it. So, I really wanna go out with you."

"I know, but I'm with Billie at the moment."

"Psh. Dump him again."

"I don't know if I can do that to him. He's so sensitive."

"He's sensitive?"

"Yeah, underneath the BITCH ASS FUCKER he's a sensitive guy and he's fun to be around. He makes a good boyfriend."

"I'd make a better one," he said in an 'I'm better that you' tone.

"I'm sure you would."

Billie walked in and saw me talking to Tre.

"So, are you two flirting it up in here? Am I missing something?"

"No, we were just talking Bill."

"That better be the truth, Addie."

I looked over at Tre and he had the look of jealousy in his eyes.

"Billie Joe, I'm the one who calls her Addie. Not you." I could tell he didn't mean to say that.

"What? You wanna start something?"

"Guys! Please don't fight!"

"I knew it, Adeline. He was hitting on you. Forget it. We're over. Again."

"Billie, don't be like that."

"Oh, so I'm just gonna sit here and watch you cheat on me?"

"I'm not cheating on you! I would never do it!"

"Yeah right. Just forget about it. We're through."

He walked up to Mr. Fedie and asked for a seat change. I saw him go sit across the room and Tre was staring at him.

"So, wanna go out?"

"Oh my God, Tre! As soon as he breaks up with me, you ask me out? Man you must be desperate."

"I am. Once I find something I like, I go after it."

"Aww... that's so sweet."

"Yeah... So, will you?"

"I guess."

"Yessssss!"

He stood up and pulled me up and we were jumping up and down, hugging.

"Whoa, take it easy there, Tre."

"Sorry. It's just that... I'M GOING OUT WITH A POPULAR GIRL! WHAT NOW?"

"Tre, take a seat." Mr. Fedie interrupted.

"Sorry."

-After School-

"So, babe. What's your plans for today?"

"I was thinking of hanging with you, baby, but you've got lessons to teach."

"You can come along if you wish."

"Really?"

"Yep."

-December 9-

"Happy Birthday, Tre!" I said as he answered the door. I hugged him.

"Aww... thanks, babe."

His sister came to the door.

"Happy Birthday, Canada!"

Canada. A few days after I met her, I couldn't remember her name, so I called her Canada. Why? Because she sounds Canadian at times.

"Thanks Addie." Addie had become my new name. No more Hershey. That name was history.
Canada had become my best friend. We never were apart. We did everything together. It just so happened that I was dating her brother. Oh yeah, she's going out with Mike. Speaking of Mike, he came up behind me with a HUGE present.

"Happy Birthday, baby."

He walked up to her and kissed her on the cheek as he handed her her present.

"Addie, I wanna show you something in my room. Come on."

"Ok."

He led me upstairs and I sat down on his bed. And of course, his room was the exact one Billie had.

"Ok, what did you want to show me?"

He dug through his drawers and pulled out something. And you could guess what it was. A shirt his mom gave him.

"Isn't it the Shiite?"

"Hell yeah!" It was a Ramones shirt. It was so awesome. "I love it, Tre." I hesitated, wanting to tell him something very important. "Tre?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."
