Sequel: The Truth Hurts Worse

Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner

Chapter 16

The LA show had been a blast, but they were all tired. They lounged back on their bus, all ready for sleep. Except Pete, actually. He was wide awake, trying to get someone to go out for a drink with him. After only ten minutes of begging and pleading, Luci was the one that gave in. She got Katy ready for bed before passing her off to Patrick and followed Pete off the bus.

Katy was ready to fall asleep as well, clutching her panda. She curled up in Patrick’s lap, resting her head against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her.

“Ready for sleep, Katy?” He asked, rubbing her back. She shook her head, letting out a loud yawn. Patrick chuckled and leaned back on the couch. He was glad she wasn’t ignoring him anymore. It had been difficult when she wasn’t talk to him, even though he was still grasping the idea of being this little girl’s dad. A small part of him told him to get a DNA test done, just to be sure. A larger part of him said that there was no doubt Katy was his. They both had the same hair, nose, lips. She had her mother’s eyes and that was it.

Katy looked up at him expectantly. She wanted her lullaby, like always. She had listened to her CD for the last few nights, but it wasn’t the same. She wanted him to sing to her.

“What is it, Katy Bear?” He asked, frowning a bit. Katy made a face and squirmed around in his lap.

“Sing me a lullaby!” She whined, clutching her panda. “Please? Please, please, please?” Patrick smiled and nodded.

“Yea, same one, or something different?” He asked. Katy shrugged and yawned, rubbing her eyes. “Okay, same one then…”

Patrick woke up to something banging against the side of the bus. He frowned and crept out of his bunk, not wanting to wake his band mates or daughter. There was another bang and then laughter. Sounded like Luci and Pete were back.

He rolled his eyes and went to the front of the bus, ready to let them in. There was one more bang and then nothing. Patrick unlocked the door and opened it, looking outside.

There was a drunk Pete with his lips on a very drunk Luci.

Patrick was in shock. He didn’t know whether to scream at them, punch something, or ignore it.

He decided on something after only 30 seconds. He stalked over to the two, pulled Pete off Luci, and punched him. Pete fell back, covering his nose and swearing. Luci looked confused and leaned back against the bus.

“Trick! Tricky? What happened?” She slurred, frowning. Patrick turned to Luci and she shrank back, expecting him to scream at her. It wouldn’t be the first time and she was certain it wouldn’t be the last.

She was shocked when he was touching her cheek, almost inspecting her. “Are you okay?” He asked, ignoring Pete’s swears and claims of a broken nose. Luci nodded, turning her attention to Pete.

“A-All we were d-doin’ was kissin’…” She mumbled, blinking. “It… just… just happened.” Patrick nodded, letting out a sigh. He helped Luci onto the bus, leaving Pete to whine about his nose. He helped her lay back on the couch and covered her with a blanket. She gave him a funny look, rubbing her eyes lazily.

“Heh, relax. I’m not gonna try anything.” He told her, smiling a bit. “Unlike Pete.” He thought, shaking his head. That’s right, Pete. Patrick just punched him. He glanced at Luci, who looked like she was ready to fall asleep. He patted her knee and left the bus, where he saw someone from security taking care of Pete.

“Sir, do you know what happened?” The guard asked, putting the finishing touches on a bandage. Pete nodded and sighed, slapping at the guard’s hand.

“I’m fine, man, really.” He mumbled, touching his nose tenderly. Fuck. Pete had a feeling he would have to take a trip to the ER. “Really, it’s okay. It was just a friendly brawl with… a friend.” The guard nodded and put his first aid kit away, heading back into the venue.

“Fuck, Pete…” Patrick sighed and helped his friend to his feet, steadying him when he wavered slightly. “I’m sorry.”

Pete shrugged, slumping against his friend. “Nah, it’s okay.” He replied, resting his head on Patrick’s shoulder as they slowly made their way onto the bus. “I just wanted to see how far we could get.” Patrick rolled his eyes. “No-not like we were gonna fuck…but… fuck, I just had to see…”

“Right, whatever.” Patrick said, helping Pete onto the other couch. Luci was already fast asleep, curled up. The blanket seemed to have been kicked onto the floor. Sighing, Patrick picked it up and covered her again before he turned back to Pete. He had that impish grin on his face. Patrick had half a mind to just slap it off his face.

“What?”

Pete smirked and shrugged, kicking his shoes off before stretching out on the couch. “Nothin’. G’night, Patrick.” He giggled, closing his eyes. “Get me a blanket?”

Patrick rubbed his face and kicked the couch as he headed back to the bunks.

My friend suggested the bit for this chapter. She thought it'd be good for Patrick to deck Pete, breaking his nose.

I am sort of planning to write a prequel to this story, where Luci and Patrick meet and all that. Hopefully it'll not be as angry as this one has been. :]
