Don’t Forget To Take A Breath Before You Fall

The Number One Fan

Katherine’s knee bounced up and down as she sat silently within her dressing room. Her brown locks fell over her face; her vintage Beetles t-shirt was rumpled from her slouching. “Just breathe Katherine May… it’ll all be fine.” She reassured herself – although to be honest it wasn’t exactly working.

“Katherine!” Joe’s voice echoed through the halls, and not a moment later he appeared in her dressing room. “You ready?” Was she ready? No, she wasn’t ready to be yelled and booed at.

“Yeah, ready as I’ll ever be.” It wasn’t exactly a lie; she most probably couldn’t have been anymore ready.

“Don’t worry Kat. Remember, you still have your fans out there.” He took her hand and led her down the hallway; the screams from the crowd could be heard already. “I saw a guy before, he had a ‘Marry me Katherine May’ sign.” Joe paused for a moment and placed both hands upon her shoulders. “I probably would have punched the guy if I ever did meet him, but that’s not the point.” Katherine found a smile grow upon her face and Joe continued to mumble.

“Don’t forget, we love you, you do have fans that love you… and no matter what – you’re still my baby sister.” Katherine smiled and kissed Joe’s cheek.

“I love you Joe.” He nodded modestly.

“I know, everyone does.”

The beat of the drum began, and Katherine’s feet instinctively took over. Her heart rate increased as she was announced on stage. The crowd did scream this time, most probably due to the excitement of seeing her brothers. She wondered onto the stage, and smiled widely, bopping along to the beat as her drummer and bass player continued to play the start of her new hit single.

“How you all doing tonight?” The screams from the crowd intensified, and she smiled.
“This is my new hit single – My Life Would Suck Without You.” She smiled down at her feet once and nodded to her band, and as the music began to take control of her body – she forgot completely about her haters.

It was apparent after the first show that people did in fact know of Katherine’s songs – actually they seemed to enjoy them. Whether this was because of the lyrics or the beat of the music, she couldn’t tell – but it did make her smile to see them sing along with her, even if they hated her personally.

“Mom can we go home yet?” It was almost ten at night when the show finally ended, and Frankie sighed, one long sigh, before plopping down on the couch within the boy’s dressing room. Katherine followed suit, and kicked her shoes off, sitting next to her younger brother.

“Frankie, please stop whining, we still have the meet and greet – which you should all be there right now!” Denise ushered her sons and daughter out of the dressing room, leading them to the large hall, where a hundred or so eager fans waited.

They took their places on the stage, Kevin, Joe and Nick, followed closely by Katherine. The fans piled up on stage, teenage girl after teenage girl – each of them wanting their own piece of Katherine’s brothers.

Katherine stood there quietly, only one person so far had asked for her autograph – and that little girl was forced to politely say hello by her mother. It didn’t really bother Katherine though, she had an enjoyable time watching her brothers’ fans scream and cry over getting to hug them.

She couldn’t help but stifle a laugh at a young girl who reached up and ran her fingers through Nick’s hair. It must have been every girl’s dream.

A low masculine voice snapped her out of staring at her brothers. “Can I get your autograph please?” She glanced up at the young man, he was tall, about 6’2, had short dirty blonde hair, and killer blue eyes.

“Certainly.” Katherine was a little shocked at the fact her had asked for her autograph. “Who am I signing this for?”

The young man smiled down at her. “Damien. I really adore you – personally I like you way better than your brothers.” Katherine couldn’t help but laugh.

“Well thank-you very much Damien – at least I know I have one true fan out there.” Damien’s smirk grew at her comment, and as she handed the poster of herself back to him, his fingers lingered on hers.

“It was amazing to meet you.” He folded the poster up into thirds.

Katherine, slightly reluctant, smiled and nodded her head once, “Wonderful to meet you too, Damien.”

She watched cautiously as he walked off the stage, showing a young girl the autograph that Katherine had just given him. “Who’s he?” Nick’s asked, once Damien was out of sight.

“I really have no idea.” She shrugged to her brother, and smiled as a six or seven year old girl requested a photograph of all four Jonas’.
