Can't Stay Away

All The Best

"Ryan?" My mom poked her head into my room.

"Yeah?" I said, looking from the book I was reading to her.

"I'm going to go shopping and I was wondering if you wanted to go," she said. "You could get some things for school? You only have about two weeks left."

I thought about it for a minute. I was going to say yes, until I realized that I'd have the house to myself if I said no. My father was at work, like he always was.

"I think I'll stay here," I said. "But...Could you just pick up some basic supplies? Notebooks, pens. You know?"

"Yeah," she said. "Do you need anything else?"

I shook my head and my mom smiled.

"Ok," she said. "I'll be back in a few hours."

"Ok," I said. "Thanks mom."

"You're welcome," she said. "See you later, honey."

My mom closed my door and I waited until I heard her leave to pick up my phone and call Brendon. I knew that both of his parents weren't home. His father was at work and his mother was God knows where.

"Hello?" Brendon said when he answered his phone.

"Hey," I said. "Want to come over? My parents aren't here."

"And neither are mine," Brendon said. "So I'll be over in a minute."

We hung up and I hurried downstairs and waited for Brendon to come over. I watched out the window for him. When he came over, I opened the door before he even had a chance to knock.

"Hey," I breathed. I felt like I hadn't seen him in a long time. I leaned forward to kiss him, but I couldn't help but notice him flinch slightly. Before I could even frown, Brendon was kissing me like nothing was wrong. When I pulled away, I couldn't help but smile.

"Hey yourself," Brendon said, smiling as well. I stepped back and Brendon came in, closing the door behind him. "So, what did you want to do?"

"I don't know," I said, smiling at him suggestively. Brendon rolled his eyes.

"You know, you're kind of a horn-dog," Brendon said.

"You love it though," I said. Brendon laughed.

"Yeah," he said. "I do." Brendon walked towards my living room and I followed him.

"So," I said, sitting on my couch. "What have you been up to?"

"Not much," he said. "Just suffering in my prison cell."

Brendon laughed bitterly and I frowned. Brendon noticed and looked away.

"Why doesn't your mom do anything?" I asked.

"She's never home," he said. "Plus she'll believe anything he tells her."

"Oh," I said quietly. "Where does your mom go during the day anyways? She doesn't have a job does she?"

Brendon turned around and frowned.

"I don't know where she goes actually," he said. "She doesn't have a job. All I know is she leaves after my father leaves and gets home before he gets home."

"You've never wondered where she goes?" I asked. Brendon shook his head.

"Well...not until now," Brendon said. "Now that you've mentioned it."

Brendon sat down next to me, and I could tell that he was thinking about this quite a bit. I leaned my head on Brendon's shoulder and yawned.

"So when does the cast come off?" I asked. Brendon glanced down at it as if he had forgotten he even had it.

"A few weeks, I think," he said. "The doctor said it wasn't too bad and that it should heal quickly."

"Does it hurt?" I asked.

"It's nothing I can't handle," Brendon said smirking. I moved my face towards his until my lips met his in a soft kiss. I pulled away after a moment and placed my head on his shoulder again. Brendon turned his body slightly and placed an arm over my stomach. I heard him take in a deep breath. "You smell good."

I smiled.

"Why thank you," I said. "You kind of smell though...When's the last time you took a shower?"

"Oh shut up," he said and I chuckled. "You're ruining the moment."

"Sorry," I said. "I couldn't help myself."

I turned my body now so that I was facing Brendon. My eyes met his and I looked into them...searching for something. Though I don't know what. What I could find, though, was Brendon's love for me. The warmth in his eyes that was always so comforting. I leaned my forehead against his and closed my eyes, wrapping my own arm around Brendon, hugging him slightly. This felt so comfortable, and so right. I didn't ever want to move. But I knew that we couldn't stay like this forever. Brendon would eventually have to go home.

I just wish he didn't have to leave. Especially to go back to parents that obviously didn't care about him. But for the time being, all I could do was enjoy this feeling and push aside all of those bad thoughts. Because I knew that Brendon deserved good thoughts. He deserved the best.
