Rum and Coke

American Soldier

Ellie smiled and ran across the stage, leaping effortlessly into Ryan’s arms. He quickly lifted her above his head in a smooth motion. He then gently lowered her down and let her spin away. They did a few tangent moves and some more lifts, still keeping in time with only the music in their heads. Ellie went completely up on her toes before groaning and coming back down on the balls of her feet.

“Urgh, I wish I brought my point shoes!” she complained, trying to go back into that position.

Ryan laughed. “Ellie, when was the last time you actually wore them?”

Ellie responded by sticking her tongue out at him.

“You know what I don’t get,” Bailey yelled as she stormed onstage. “Why I have every single five-star calling me all of a sudden!” She glared down at her ringing phone. “I’m definitely not talking to you!” she addressed the tiny device and rejected whoever was trying to call her.

“If they’re trying that hard to get a hold of you, shouldn’t you at least make the effort to pick up the phone?” Ryan asked.

“Probably, but I don’t want to listen to what they have to say,” Bailey replied with a shrug before hugging her friends.

“American Soldier” started blaring from the phone.

“And that would be my sister,” Bailey said, actually accepting the call. “Hey, Jo, what’s up?” after a brief pause, Bailey took in a sharp breath, causing Ryan to immediately hold her. “That’s why everyone’s been calling me and saying nothing?! …What do you mean by they’re moving him?!” she asked angrily as she yanked her brother’s dog tags from underneath her shirt and started playing with them. “Are you going to fly him over? Actually, first: where the hell are you right now?... Germany? What the hell? …Yea, tell him that I love him and that we’re all praying for him…Uh-huh, and, Jo? Bring him home safely….ok, thanks.” Bailey hung up the phone and looked at Ellie. “Jo says my dad’s base was bombed. Only three of them survived. Dad’s injuries are too bad to treat over there, so they’re shipping him over here once he’s stable enough.”

Ellie seized the other girl in a tight hug.

“I’ll stay here as long as possible, but I’m not making any guarantees.”

“That’s fine, Bails. We won’t think anything less of you,” Ryan whispered into her ear. “Don’t worry, everything’s going to be ok. I promise,” he added, placing a kiss to her head.

Bailey didn't sing her best that night, but no one mentioned it. Mark and the A7X crew were notified immediately (and in hushed whispers) about what was going on. Ellie also notified everyone back at home who most likely didn't know, and received a few responses back.

Later that night, Bailey and Mark were left alone in the back room. Ryan figured that it was the best thing for them to do.

Just to clear it up: through a long and very complicated story, A friend and I are kind of doing a joint story (that's like...20 years apart)...well, it's more like character-sharing, really. Anyways, apparently Jared decided to randomly show up in her story and Jo leaked into mine via Bailey

Long story short: Jo was adopted by Bailey's dad after her parents were involved in an automobile accident. Jo is trained in basically everything that the military offers (gender playing no part in it). She and Bailey are very close (even though they are like 14 years apart). If you want a picture, I can put it in the next chapter...Jo's only going to pop up in only 5 more chapters at most
