Paint My Skies Black, I Never Wanna See The Sun Again

We Are Midnight, We Are Last Night

Alex couldn’t believe it.
She came back.
She came the fuck back.

One night, as he was once again moping around Jack’s house, he heard a knock at the door, and assuming it was Jack, and he’d forgotten his keys again, he went to open it.

It wasn’t Jack.

Obviously.

His mouth went dry; his stomach heaved; his palms turned clammy. Man, it was worse than the flu.

“What are you doing here?” he managed to say in a monotonous voice since he hadn’t spoken out loud much.

Sunday’s face was contorted into such a painful grimace all he wanted to do was reach out and touch her. To reassure himself that it really was her. And it was. That’s what really killed him.

She couldn’t take it anymore. Every day was a nightmare. She had been waking up with nightmares, and they were all the same: It was that Alex was simply gone, and that was the scariest thing to her.

The first few nights, Lynne would run into her room to try and calm her down, but as the days progressed, even she just learned to turn over and cover her head with a pillow until the screams subsided.

So she came back. To tell him everything.

Everything.

Alex didn’t even invite her inside. He just stared at her, dumbstruck, not believing that she was even there.

So she told her story on the porch, just as the rain started drizzling.

From beginning to end, Alex showed no signs of feeling. It was like he desensitized himself. When she finally finished, she couldn’t even look at him.

She felt worse than the scum beneath her shoes.

Alex stood there, and it was like he didn’t even see her. He saw right through her. This was not the girl that he loved. This was not Sunday. In a swift, but robotic motion as monotone as his voice, he simply closed the door on the pitch black skies of the night and girl who was now a stranger to him, and sat back down to write.

Hide away
The dark’s surrounding me
This anger that’s just bottled up inside
If it’s not today
How will I ever leave?
No more dignity, no more pride

Paint my skies black
I never wanna see the sun again
I can’t hold back
What’s killing me from within

Betrayed
Your words, they cannot save you
From what you have to face
An innocent disgrace
Those promises
Came screaming back to me
Your memories, I will erase
Another point for my mistakes

Another night
Brings on another fight
The voices in my head: hard to ignore
Accept defeat
To the master of deceit
I have lost the battle, you have won the war

Paint my skies black
I never wanna see the sun again
Try to hold back
My patience is wearing thin
Lost direction
Flooded and washed up on the shore
Now I question
What the future holds in store

Betrayed
Your words, they cannot save you
From what you have to face
An innocent disgrace
Promises
Came screaming back to me
Your memories, I will erase
Another point for my mistakes

I try to run but she’s everywhere I go
Everywhere I find
Might be losing my mind
Half the man that I once used to be
You have broken me
You have broken me

Betrayed
I will not try to save
Not-so-innocent disgrace
Promises
I promise that is the
Last you’ll see of me
The sky is black, the sun is gone
I’m gone
