The Undeniable Truth

It had been two months since you found out that your parents left without you. You had lived at the Sohma Estate with Akito and Hatori. You were given your own room and some new clothes that Akito had bought for you.

You sat in your room by your window looking up at the night sky and watching the stars. You hadnt talked to anyone since the day you discovered your parents left without you. You had barely eaten and when it came to school, your grades were slipping. Ruri had tried to help you but it seemed that you were slowly pushing her away from you. She didnt know why, of all people, you were pushing Ruri away but you just couldnt get why your parents would leave without you. You closed your Emerald eyes as salty tears rolled down your cheeks. Sure they hated you but they made sure you were always around.

You were pulled out of your thoughts from the sound of soft knocks on your bedroom door. but you were in no mood to talk to anyone. The door slowly opened and shut. There was the sound of soft foot steps indicating that the person was bare foot. You decided that you should open your eyes but when you did you saw Haru sitting there in front of you. You let out a sigh and looked out the window again.

"Why do you feel like since your parents left, that you should stop talking to people and push the ones close to you away?" He asked but you still said nothing.

"Ruri and the rest of us are worried about you. You havent been eating, you dont talk to anyone anymore, and your grades are slipping. I know that you still care about them but they beat you all the time because you werent like them." Haru told you. You let out a sigh as you pulled your knees to your chest, wrapped your arms around them and then placed your head on your knees but before you had a chance to talk to Haru, the door opened again and Hatori walked in the room

"Haru, shouldnt you be in bed?"

"yeah, but i was worried about Mai"

"As we all are, but you need your rest. Now go to bed"

"fine but promise me that you'll come get me if she needs someone else"

"i promise, now go" Hatori said. Haru gave one look at you and then walked out of the room shutting the door behind him. Hatori had then sat in front of you and placed a hand on your arm

"you need to stop this"

"how can i" You asked with your head still down as more tears flooded from your eyes. Hatori gently pulled you closer to him making you drop your knees and wrap your arms around his chest. He held you close to him as you cried. True, they had beat you and almost killed you but the fact of the matter was that they were your parents.

"no matter how much they used to hurt me, they always made sure that i was around before they went anywhere. I know they cared"

"they lied to you Mai. They faked their emotions of love and care and concern. The way they looked at you and the way they treated you was wrong. They rejected you because you were different" Hatori whispered in her ear. You shook your head and pushed him away from you

"NO!! THEY DID LOVE ME!!"

"if they loved you then why would they hurt you so badly making you afraid to go home. Why would they almost kill you?"

"THEY LOVED ME! I WAS THEIR ONLY CHILD! I WAS THEIR BABY GIRL!! THEY LOVED ME" you yelled as you moved to a corner of the room and sat in fetal position. A whole new wave of tears formed and fell from your eyes.

~Hatoris POV~

You sat there and watched her cower in the corner of the room crying her heart you. She knew her words were only false hope but it was the only thing keeping her going. Seeing her like this made your heart break. She was the closest thing to you that you actually loved. She was special and you hated seeing her like this.

You walked over to her and kneeled in front of her. She didnt look up at you and you knew why. To her at this moment, you were the bad guy and you didnt want her to look at you in that way. You pulled her into you again. She tried to push you away from her and hit you in the arms with her fists but that made you hold her a little tighter. She had eventually calmed down and cried into your chest

"they never loved you. You belong here where you ARE loved." you told her. She looked up at you with watery eyes

"do you really love me?" She asked as if she was talking about just you. Even though you knew she was talking about you and the others. You smiled down at her anyway

"yes" you whispered. yes i do, you thought. She smiled up at you and you kissed her forehead

"just promise me that youll eat, that youll talk to everyone again and that youll work on your grades" you told her and she nodded and rested her head on your chest once again. Her breathing soon slowed down and became softer and even

"i promise" you heard her say before she drifted off to sleep.

~Your POV~

You had gone to school the next day and tackled Ruri in a hug. You had missed her so much and you had felt bad for pushing her away when really all you wanted was someone to tell you that you were actually loved.

"imsosorryipushedyouawayandtreatedyouhorribly" you said in one breath. Ruri pushed you a little with a slight giggle

"slow down Mai, now tell me again what you said"

"im so sorry i pushed you away and treated you horribly" you said looking down at the floor

"i know why you did it and i understand....well not fully but i kinda do" she trailed off. This made you laugh. Same old Ruri. She was truly your one and true friend.
