The Undeniable Truth

The pain of Misunderstanding

~Normal POV~

A few nights had passed and still Mai hadnt returned to school again. She was still mad at Tohru for what she was putting Yuki and Kyo through. She had sat in her bedroom window and looked out at the night sky. It was a rainy night. Mai closed her eyes as she listened to the wind howl outside her window as it rustled through the trees not far from the room. Ruri sat on her bed and watched her best friend

"What happened to you Mai?"

"What are you talking about? Im the same old me"

"No you're not. You never used to lock yourself away from the world"

"Im not locking myself away from the world" Mai told her. Still keeping her eyes on the night sky. Ruri stood up and sighed getting frustrated

"Mai, I have to bring you your homework everyday and Kyo or Yuki brings it to school for you because you'd rather not deal with Tohru"

"Ruri, you need to understand that i cant be around her right now"

"And why not?" Ruri asked as her voice got louder. Mai looked down at her hands. How was she suppose to tell Ruri that if she came face to face with Tohru right now, then she would transform into her monster and probably end up hurting Tohru or worse....killing her.

"Ruri, please believe me. Im not doing this because i want to. Im doing this because i have to"

"I want to Mai, but i just cant" and with that, Ruri gathered her things and walked out of the room.

Mai didnt move from the window as tears began to fall from her green eyes. She had just lost a friend because she didnt understand what she was and what bad things could happen. A knock had came to her door but she didnt say a word and didnt bother wiping her tears away. The door opened and closed gently behind her but she didnt need to turn around to see that it was Hatori

"She wouldnt believe me. She didnt want to understand that i cant go near Tohru right now. If i do, she'll get hurt and then Kyo and Yuki will hate me" she whispered. Hatori sat behind her, wrapping his arms around her middle as she leaned into him

"You need to give her time Mai, she doesnt know about our family and what can happen to the rare ones"

"Like Kyo and I"

"Yes, like you and Kyo."

"But Kyo isnt deadly"

"No, but you're not either"

"How can you think I'm not?"

"Because i know you Mai, and i know that you wouldnt hurt anyone. You avoid them so that nothing bad will happen" Hatori told her. Mai looked up and him and smiled. Hatori had kissed her forehead and then gently wiped away her stray tears

"Just let her come to you, love" he whispered in her ear making a shiver go down her spine. That night, Hatori had stayed with Mai. He didnt want to leave her alone, epesically when she though of herself as a monster, even compared to Kyo's monster form.

The next morning, Mai woke up by a pain ripping through her body. She shot up in sitting position as a scream escaped her lungs. Hatori sat up and tried to hold her close to him but she pushed him away and moved to a corner in the room. She was transforming.
