Last Kiss Goodbye

Coby and Sonny

I put the last few articles of clothing in my bag as I zipped it up and flung it over my shoulders. It’s been two months since I saw Sydney, and now I was going on tour. I really didn’t do anything but play my guitar and think about her. She’s invading my sleep which is keeping me up; I could barely walk along the beach with Michelle without remembering our last night together. But something feels wrong. It feels like I walked away from her before she could tell me something—something important. I slap myself in the face whenever I think of that. I tell myself I need to forget her and move on, but it’s impossible.

Michelle decided to skip this tour and stay home. She said she’d rather be home then stay on a bus with a bunch of pigs. It’s wonderful to know my girlfriend considers my best friends, who are like family to me, pigs. I walked out front to see the bus already waiting. I climbed onto my second home and smiled to myself as I chucked my bag into my bunk. I finally could enjoy my life. I walked back out to the front of the bus to where Aly and Matt were sitting. Speaking of which, I haven’t spoke to Aly since we fought on the phone.

I slumped down into the couch while watching CSI. Aly was fantasizing over Eric Szmanda, who plays Greg Sanders on CSI. Matt was grunting saying ‘I’m better than him.’ I couldn’t help but laugh at his jealousy. We finally got to Johnny’s house. He climbed onto the bus with his regular attire: black leather jacket, jeans, and sunglasses. I sometimes think that’s all he owns. Johnny spun around in the back room and flung his bag into whatever bunk it landed in. That’s how he picks what bunk he stays in for the tour.

“John-knee!” Aly jumped on him, making him fall to the ground. Johnny is five foot three and Aly is five foot nine; he just got owned.

“Aly,” Johnny grunted, Aly was now lying on top of him. “I would appreciate if you could get off me, I’ve been on the bus for not even 10 minutes and I’m already being abused.”

“Sorry, John-knee.” She chuckled and got up off him.

“We are at Jim-ee’s house!” Aly shouted, pointing out the window. She was really hyper and out of her normal personality. I sighed and didn’t even bother to greet Jimmy. I wandered off into the bunk area and lied down, ignoring the various other stops we made to pick up the rest of the guys. Jimmy’s girlfriend and Zacky’s fiancée wouldn’t be coming on tour until later; they needed to wait until they could get off work. I wish my girlfriend worked, instead I’m her servant. I pushed the thought to the back of my head, and fell asleep.

“Brian, how long will we be together?” Sydney was lying in my lap on the sandy beach, watching the sun melt away behind the ocean, and the moon slowly take its place. She looked so perfect in her little black bikini. I leaned my head down to hers and kissed her cheek. I was the happiest man on Earth.

“Forever, it sounds impossible, but we’ll find a way to make sure we stay together that long.” I turned her head so it faced mine. I got lost in her eyes, they we’re gorgeous. The biggest grin spread across her face, I couldn’t help but do the same. Silence surrounded us as we stayed in each others arms until the sky went completely dark. We walked back up the beach hand in hand; I hoped this day never ended.

I shot up from my bed and hit my head on the bunk above me. I rubbed my head and rolled out of my bed sighing. My plan to forget Sydney is failing; she’s still in my dreams. I walked out to the front of the bus and grabbed a beer from the fridge. I opened it and chugged it down, then grabbed another one. No one questioned my weird behaviour, but Aly seemed a little uneasy about it. We arrived in San Diego not to long after I had woken up. We got ourselves situated in our hotel rooms. Jimmy and I shared one, Zacky and Johnny shared one, then Matt and Aly got one to themselves. When Jimmy’s and Zacky’s girlfriends get out here, they won’t have to share a room either. I’ll get stuck with Johnny, wonderful. Well, at least I won’t have to share a bed with him. We soon got rounded up and had to go over to the venue for sound check.

“Brian!” Aly called over to me, I’m surprised she isn’t ignoring me.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Let’s go for a walk around, I’m bored and Matt’s being a fuck-tard,” She suggested, pulling me out of my hotel room.

“Fuck-tard?” I questioned, looking at her funny as she pulled me down the hallways.

“Shut up, it was the first thing that came to mind. Now let’s go! Last one down has to by the other person a beer!” I escaped from her grip and ran down the stairs, I wanted a beer. As I sprinted out the front of the hotel room, Aly walked out soon after and laughed at me. “You’re that desperate for a beer?” I glared at her, then nodded my head. I couldn’t disagree. We walked around the venue aimlessly talking about topics that no one would really ever think to talk about. (ex: how to make pillows, debating if aliens were purple or orange—or if they existed in general, mixing every type of alcohol in one cup then drink it and see what happens, and how come software for Macintosh computers has to be different and more expensive then regular computers.)

“Let’s play tag!” Aly blurted out in the middle of our current discussion of Barney and how kids find it entertaining when it’s pointless.

“Well then, I’m not it!” I stuck out my tongue and bolted off away from Aly. She chased after me, and eventually gave up. I felt bad for her because she had a bad knee, so running isn’t the best for her. We sat down by the fence that enclosed us from getting out to the fans, and them getting into us. Aly could barely walk, so we had to sit down. I glanced around the venue and saw Jacoby walking around looking bored out of his mind.

"Coby!" Aly yelled, hoping he would hear her.

"Sonny!" Jacoby's face lit up, as he ran towards us. Aly and Jacoby go way back, basically friends since birth. Growing up they called eachother Coby and Sonny, and still do so 28 years later. Jacoby's phone beeped, and he groaned. " I have to go, my girlfriend is at the airport. I haven't seen her in forever since the guys and I have been touring nonstop. I love you Sonny, bye Haner."

"I love you too Coby." Aly tried to pull herself up off the ground, but failed. Jacoby picked her up and laughed, giving her a hug before walking off.

"I think I need to get you back to Matt so he can take care of that knee." I suggested as I held her up for support after Jacoby walked away.

"Piggy back ride?" She suggested. I laughed and put her on my back, and ran towards the bus. For the first time in the longest time, I had a smile across my face.
