Everybody's Fool

After school, Carol gave me a ride home.
“Later, Kim,” Carol yelled. I waved bye to her.
Once I got in the house, Brittany and Bianca blocked me. They were both smacking their gum in a really annoying way. I really hate it when people chew their gum like they don’t care that people find it annoying.
“Mother told us to tell you to start making something delicious for dinner because we are going to have important guests that can help her get started with her singing career,” Brittany stated twirling a strand of her hair around her finger.
Nina can sing? I never knew that and since when did she want a singing career? I thought confused.
I pushed my way past them and headed up to my room and changed to a pair of plain gray skinny jeans and a blue ‘Music is my Boyfriend’ shirt.
I headed back downstairs towards the kitchen and got started on making dinner. I decided to make shrimp scampi and for desert, a chocolate cake. Next thing I needed to do was make the chocolate cake, it wasn’t that hard to do since I’m used to making cakes for Nina. Nina is just addicted to cakes, it doesn’t matter what kind just as long as it’s a cake. The chocolate cake was baked and frosted in an hour. I placed the cake in the refrigerator and got started on the shrimp scampi. It took me about an hour to finish the shrimp scampi. I set the bowl of shrimp scampi to the skitchen counter and grabbed some plates from the kitchen cabinet, utensils from the drawer and napkins, I started to set the table. When I was finished setting the table, I headed back to the kitchen to clean up the mess from the cooking.
At 8:00 p.m. the door bell rang, right when I was done cleaning the table. Brittany and Bianca came running downstairs fighting for who should answer the door first.
What’s up with them? They never like answering the door, I wondered wiping my hands with the cloth.
I walked towards the front door to see who was at the door, it was the Jonas family.
I walked up to them to greet them.
“Hi, everyone,” I greeted them. Brittany and Bianca were just there clinging onto Joe’s arms making flirty faces to him. If I could I would have laughed right now but I tried holding it in.
“Hi, Kimberly,” Mrs. Jonas greeted me with Mr. Jonas arm around her shoulder.
“Um, dinner is going to be served in the dining room,” I told them pointing towards the direction of the dining room.
“Thank you,” Mr. Jonas thanked. I nodded.
Mr. and Mrs. Jonas headed towards the dining room.
“’Sup Kim,” Nick and Kevin greeted me in unison.
“Hey, guys,” I smiled as I gave them a hug and they hugged me back.
“How’s it going?” Kevin asked pulling back from the hug.
“Oh, you know just living my miserable life,” I told them smiling. “Where’s Frankie?”
“He went to a sleep over with his friends,” Nick answered. I nodded. Nick and Kevin headed to the dining room leaving me with Joe and my desperate step sisters who were still clinging onto him.
I guess I should help him, I thought.
“Hey, Brittany, your make up is a bit smudged. Oh, and Bianca, your hair is starting to get frizzy,” I lied. They both gasped and raced to the upstairs restroom. Yea they care more about their looks than anything else.
“Thanks for that,” Joe thanked as he ran his hand through his hair, which was really cute.
“No, problem,” I said like it didn’t matter.
Joe opened his arms to me, I'm guessing he's asking for a hug.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Well. . . I guess so,” I answered as I walked into his arms. The hug was awesome. I felt safe in his arms. I couldn’t help but smile. We pulled away from each other and headed to the dining room. Joe sat down in the only available seat which was between Brittany and Bianca. I walked to the kitchen to grab the tray of champagne for the adults and ice tea for the teens.
Right when I arrived in the dining room Nina walked in the room wearing a dark blue one shoulder sequin mini dress with a pair of blue sequin night heels with her hair up in curls. Just by the looks of her made my eyes burn, I kept my eyes on the floor to keep myself from puking and what’s up with her and sequins?
“Hello, everyone,” Nina announced. Nina headed towards her seat, between Mrs. Jonas and Brittany, and sat down. It seems like everyone was shocked by the way she was dressed except for Brittany and Bianca, who just kept making flirty eyes with Joe. Nick, Kevin and Joe’s faces were priceless, their mouths hung open, eyes wide, and one of their eyes were twitching a bit.
I passed everyone a drink when they started talking, I couldn’t help but over hear their conversation.
“So, Denise, I hear your sons are amazing musicians and singers,” Nina questioned taking a sip of her champagne.
“Um, yes, they are,” Denise agreed. “Aren’t you, boys?”
“Yes,” they answered in unison.
“Cool,” Nina said trying to act cool. Acting but not actually succeeding. “Kimberly, first course.”
Once I finished passing out the drinks, I walked to the kitchen and grabbed the shrimp scampi from the counter
I started passing out the food to each person while they were still arguing about something that I had missed.
“I’m not going to sing a duet with you Nina,” Joe stated. Oh, so that‘s why Nina wanted them over, I thought. “Nick, Kevin and I are thinking about starting a band and that doesn’t include you.”
I wanted to laugh so bad. All the years that I‘ve known Nina, she has never been turned down by anyone.
Nina stood up almost making me drop the bowl of shrimp scampi. “Now you listen here, you will do one with me if you actually want to succeed in the music business.”
“Now hold on,” Nick stated as he stood, almost making me drop the bowl. “Do you even know anything about the music business yourself?”
“Yea,” Kevin said back up Nick.
Nina didn’t say anything. “That’s what I thought,” Nick commented sitting back down.
Nina drank the rest of her champagne in one swallow and turned to Joe and announced, “You are doing a duet with me, I don’t care what anyone says.”
“No I’m not,” Joe stated as he stood up this time when he stood up he made me lose me balance and toss the plate, making it land all over everyone on the table.
When this was happening, I fell to the floor with Joe on top of me. I removed the pasta out of my mouth and looked at Joe.
“How do we always end up bumping into each other?” I questioned looking into Joe’s beautiful eyes. Joe laughed.
“Uh, you have shrimp in your hair,” Joe laughed pulling the shrimp out of my hair. Nick and Kevin helped Joe off of me, Joe then helped me up as I dusted myself off. Brittany and Bianca walked out of the dining room covered in shrimp and salad as they complained about how they must look right now. The Jonas family left without a goodbye. Leaving me with Nina.
“Look at the mess that you did,” Nina shouted at me. “Your phone privileges are suspended for two months, give me your cell phone” I handed her my cell phone and waited for her to continue, “ now clean up this mess until I see it sparkle!” Nina ran out of the dining room yelling “Joe, Joe!” but I knew they were long gone now.
I groaned out loud as I began cleaning the mess that Joe and I had caused. This was a fun night, embarrassing but fun, I thought as I replayed the images in my head.
