Boarding school will never be boring

As I waited for Cara to get out of the shower, I finished my make-up. We had to go down to breakfast early to grab our schedules.

“Oh hell, I’m running late.”

“Want me to grab your schedule?”

“You’d be my best friend.”

“I already am!” I said smacking her elbow. She laughed and I grabbed my bag, phone, and headed out.

As I walked along the sidewalks to the hall, I couldn’t help but smile. The birds chirped overhead, the trees were still perfect shade of green, and students were chattering as happy as can be.

Teachers were heading to the hall for their breakfasts, as well as students. I entered the hall about five minutes later and smiled at familiar faces.

I sat down with Darla and Kaylee and grabbed a bagel.

“How was the first night back?” I asked them.

“Good, we moved around the furniture.” I nodded and started to put jam on the bread.

“Yeah, the ideas you made to us in the summer actually made the room bigger.”

“Good, I’m glad it worked.”

“Where’s Cara?” Darla asked after eating her fruit salad.

“Running late, like usual.” They smiled and then the boys walked in. A boy named Mark walked in them and kissed Darla’s head. I smiled at them and inwardly sighed. I secretly wished to find a boyfriend this year, I haven’t had one since freshmen year, and thought it was time for one.

“Good morning girls.” Brandon said sitting down next to me. I smiled at him and grabbed my schedule along with Cara’s. I took Brandon’s so I could compare and I grinned.

“What’s got you so happy?” He asked nudging me.

“We’re in four classes together.”

“Good, I’m glad.”

“Me too.”

“I hate math!” Elaina exclaimed next to me. I smiled and rubbed her back. She looked at me and smiled. “Help me?”

“Of course, what do you need help with?”

“Everything?” She asked more than saying. I smiled at her cute self and scooted my chair closer.

We were currently in math, but we had a worksheet to do. I was finishing mine, while she only did half the paper. As we started going through the work she sighed and covered her face with her hands.

“Why don’t we meet on your free period and I’ll help you more.”

“You’re a lifesaver.” The bell above us rang, and she rose picking everything up. She kissed my cheek and smiled heading off to English. My cheek stung from her lips and I’m sure I had a goofy grin on my face.

“Hey mate, whoa, someone’s happy.” I nodded and Alex gave me a look to continue.

“Well, El kissed me.” His mouth fell open and I shook my head no. “On the cheek, but still, her lips touched me.”

He laughed and patted my shoulder, “You’re in deep.”

“Way over my head.”

“So I have a problem.” I said as I threw myself onto my plush mattress. Cara swiveled in her desk chair and raised an eyebrow.

“I kissed Brandon today.” She jumped up and moved over to me. Her brown eyes bulged in surprise, and she continuously opened and closed her mouth. “On the cheek.” She closed her eyes and put her hand over her heart.

“You surprised me, I thought you didn’t like him.”

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, a nervous habit. “I thought so too, I told him we shouldn’t date last year. But this morning when Mark kissed Darla, they’re so cute; I couldn’t help but wish I had a boyfriend. Then in math he was so helpful and cute, so I kissed him when I left.” I hid my face under my pillow and groaned.

Cara patted my leg and sighed.

“What do I do Cara?”

“I’m not sure…”

“Well what would you do?”

“Give it time, I guess.” She shook head and stood. “I don’t know it seems like you two fancy each other. Just…I don’t know.” She threw her hands in the air and I slightly smiled.

“That makes two of us.”
