Boarding school will never be boring

As the leaves begin to fall, we'll dance.

As I walked across campus from the library I heard whispers. I looked up at two smiling girls and tried to catch part of their conversations. As I neared the dorms though, nothing made sense.

I unlocked the door and headed inside. The smell of cookies filled my senses and I smiled. I walked across the corner and saw Darla and Kaylee baking.

“Starting your fall time cookie exchange?”

“Yes, it’s this weekend!” Kaylee said smiling, every year Darla, Kaylee, and girls from other dorms exchange cookies, they always get more than enough and shared them with the whole floor.

I pushed myself up the wooden stairs and walked to our floor. I pushed our door open and smiled at Cara.

“DO you know what’s going on? Every girl on campus is whispering.”

“Oh, there’s a dance this weekend.”

“What? Since when?”

“They announced it this morning, but little miss Elaina was on a date with Brandon.” I grinned and blushed.

“It wasn’t a date, we were just sitting on the hill.” She raised her eyebrows and nodded like she really believed me, not.

I rolled my eyes and opened my closet, “well I have nothing to wear.”

“Which is why our mom’s are picking us up on Friday night.”

“They are?” Cara laughed and shook her head.

“Didn’t you check your emails?”

“Nope, not since last night.”

“Well, you should check it more often my dear.”

“Ask your girl to the dance yet?”

“There’s a dance?” I asked slipping my shoes onto my feet. I looked up to see Alex shaking his head.

“Yeah, where were you this morning anyway?”

“Oh, just you know. I was on the hill.”

“With miss Elaina?”

“Maybe,” I said smiling. He laughed and pushed my head away as he walked out of the room.

I took out my cell and punched in a few keys waiting for my reply.

Sure, I’ll meet you in ten. –El

I pushed my cell into my pocket, picked up my key and headed out of the dorm to the warm, green, tall hill to meet miss Elaina.

I put my shiny aviators down on my nose and walked out of the dorm. I headed towards the hill and smiled when I reached my destination. Brandon stood when I reached him, and wrapped me into a hug.

“Hey how was studying?”

“Boring, history is never fun.” I smiled and sat down next to his stuff. He sat next to me and watched as I picked at grass and sent it flying into the slight breeze.

“So what’s up?” I asked looking at him.

“Oh, I was just wondering if…um…”

“Brandon, why so shy?” I giggled, never since I have met Brandon has he had been shy. He blushed, looked down and cleared his throat.

“Will you be my date for the dance?” He looked up in time to see me smiling, and nodding my head yes.

“Of course I will.” I leaned over, kissed his cheek, and stood up. “I have to go, but I’ll call you later?” He nodded before I smiled and headed off down the hill.

“Hey roomie,” Cara announced before plopping on my bed.

“I got a date,” I said grinning and meeting her curious eyes.

“Oh Yay, Bran’s asked you!” I grinned and shook my head at an incredible speed. “Well good, he needs to, cause another boy would have.”

“I’m excited now, before I wasn’t. But I’m going with Bran, so I’m happy.”

“You totally fancy him,” Cara said before singing a song and making me laugh.

“Do the deed?” Alex asked I threw my bag on my bed and sat down at my desk.

“Yeah, and she said yes.” I smiled and saw him grin.

“Way to go mate, knew she would.”

“I thought I was going to die if she said no.”

“She fancies you, no bloody way she’d say no.”

“Well let’s just hope she doesn’t cancel between now and then.” Alex laughed and shook his head.

“Do I look alright?” I asked twirling around in the mirror to make sure I looked perfect.
Cara walked up behind me and rolled her perfectly done eyes. The make-up enhanced her eyes incredibly, and her eyelashes lifted so far up to the ceiling it was amazing. Her dress glittered from the lights overhead, and the color complimented her complexion.

“Of course, you’re going to make Brandon faint.” I smiled and hit her as she pushed on her pearl bracelet. She laughed and sprayed her perfume, and we were ready to go.

My black dress ended above my knees, but fit perfectly. My shoes didn’t make me any taller, but I didn’t wish to be. My bangles slid along my arm with every movement and made a ting sound.

We found the boys downstairs, and a grin grew across my face.

I adjusted my tie and groaned. I hated the anticipation that grew in my stomach. The girls were upstairs getting ready while Alex and I stood in the common room. He ran his hand through his hair and jumped up and down.

“What’s wrong mate?”

“I’m nervous, which isn’t good! I don’t get nervous.” I laughed and placed my hand on his shoulder.

“You fancy Cara?”

“I believe so.”

“Then tell her,” We heard footsteps and we both turned. My stomach did a 180, my knees almost gave out, and my mouth fell open.

“Wow…Elaina, you look gorgeous.” She smiled, blushed, and stepped to me.

“Thank you Brandon, you clean up nice as well.” She kissed my cheek. I smiled, offered my arm, and into the night we went.
