Boarding school will never be boring

May I have this dance?

The music was loud, the hall was dark, and everyone was dancing. I smiled; grabbed Cara’s hand and we went to the front of the large amount of bodies and began to dance.

As the music progressed, our group of friends increased. I smiled when Darla and Mark showed up. They were soon followed by Kaylee ad Lily. I looked around for the boys but they were gone.

After a half an hour of them not being around, I went on a hunt. After stopping to talk to some people, I made it to the doors. I pushed myself outside and down the hall. The doors to the outside were open and voices filtered the hallway. The voices sounded familiar, so I walked
closer.

I was about to announce myself when a surprising secret was proclaimed.

Pushing myself through the crowd, I stopped to look around. All around me bodies swayed to the beat filled music.

My friends changed their dancing location, making it difficult to find them. After spinning in circles, I spotted the dark brown hair that belonged to Cara.

I rushed forward, grabbed her hand, and opened my mouth to tell her what I had heard but was suddenly interrupted.

“We’re going to take the next dance a little slower. SO partner up!”

A hand pulled my waist around, and I spun to make eye contact with Brandon.

“Hey where did you come from?” I asked looking around.

“Oh, Alex and I were outside, why?” He asked as he pushed my hands to his neck.

“I was just wondering,” I said lifting a shoulder in a no reason way. He nodded, secured his hands on my hips and he started to sway our bodies to the rhythmic beat.

I watched intently out of the corner of my eye. Cara was smiling as Alex talked to her. I was nervous for her, sure Cara fancied Alex, but she might deny it. I pit my head on Brandon’s chest, and closed my eyes. This motion just felt so natural to me.

When the beat grew fast once more, I opened my eyes to find Alex alone.

Everything was going perfect, Alex was going to tell Cara how he felt, and I planned to tell Elaina the same. Everyone would be happy by the end of the night.

Elaina had her head against my chest, which made my heart pound, my stomach to flip, and my hands to sweat. As we danced though, I felt my body relax and my nerves to calm.

When the music switched genres, Elaina lifted her head, and stepped way. Looking in the direction she was, I noticed Alex was alone.

“Mate, what’s going on?” I pulled Elaina along side of me, and felt her hand squeeze mine.

“I…I don’t know. I tried to tell Cara, then she bailed.” Elaina let go of my hand and pushed herself through the crowd.

Alex looked up ashamed, “I’m sorry Mate. I didn’t mean to make her run off.”

I ran a hand through my hair and shook my head. “Not your fault man.”

“Cara unlock the door!” I said as I pounded on the bathroom door.

“No, go back to the dance.” She said determinedly.

“Not without you, so come out and talk to me…Please?” There was no answer behind the door. I sighed, sat on chair, and rubbed a hand over my forehead.

I had no idea what to do. I was about to begin a search for something to unlock the door, when Cara walked out.

“What happened?”

“He told me that he fancied me, and has for awhile.”

“Well that’s good news!” I said taking her hand.

“Yeah, but then I got nervous. You know relationships were never a strong point when it
comes to my qualities.” She took a deep breath and looked at me. “I fancy him as well though.”

“So why did you run?”

“I don’t know!” She flopped onto her mattress. I smiled and rubbed her arm.

“Well maybe, you should explain to Alex what happened before?” I threw out one option hoping she would take it.

“He’ll think I’m dumb.”

I sighed, slipped of my shades and sat next to my best friend for the remainder of the night.
