A Midsummer's Night Dream

Sophia

As I walked toward the train to go downtown, I couldn’t help but smile. Today was the run through for A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’m playing one of the main characters, Hermia. However, what I’m really excited about is who is being my Lysander. Daniel Radcliffe. Finding out, I was absolutely gob smacked. I wasn’t allowed to tell my best friend and roommate though. Her name’s Lily Elizabeth Richardson. She’s a fiery ginger that loves Daniel Radcliffe. I love her dearly. Oh by the way, my names Sofia Nicola Siriano. Both Lily and I are 22 years old.

As I realized it was my stop, I got off and the butterflies kicked in. It was dreadfully cold this morning, so it kept me going. I arrived in front of the theater and I couldn’t help but be proud and excited and nervous. I can only hope but do well. I walked in the side door, like the instructions said. The door with all the cast was right to my left and I paused for a minute before going in. What if I’m not as good as they expected? I haven’t done an play like this. This is my first play out of college.

“Nervous?” A man said from behind me.

“Terrified..” I said, staring aimlessly at the door.

“I’m guessing this is your first play?”

“Yes it is. I just got out of college.”

“Don’t worry. They wouldn’t have cast you as my lover if you weren’t good.”

“Your lover?” I said turning around to see no other than Daniel standing there. “How’d you know?’

“They sent me a picture and a video when they got it down to final two. I hoped they chose you.”

“And you felt that way because?”

“Cause more than anyone, you were able to show the most passion and love towards Lysander. I thought it was amazing.” I blushed deeply, knowing what I was thinking about.

“You were definitely remembering something huh?”

“Maybe. Well come on, time for practice now.”

“Oh so now you want to go in eh?” I laughed and we walked into the room. All I could think about though is meeting that man with the ginger hair and crooked smile.

After going through the whole play, 4 hours later, we finally got out of rehearsal. I knew Lily would want to hear everything about what happened, so it’d be good to get home in the next couple hours but first, I definitely needed to wind down-with tea or coffee.

“Hey Sofia!” I heard Daniel yell behind me.

“Yes Daniel?”

“I was wondering if you wanted to go get some coffee and just talk. I want to get to know I’m eloping with.” I laughed lightly.

“Of course we can. I was just thinking of doing that myself actually.”

“Excellent. Let’s go then.”

We went to this little Irish pub nearby called The Tipperary Kettle known well for its little leprechaun door. It has great coffee or tea (whatever your presence) and delicious sandwiches. We talked about life: mine and my enormous family in Italy and his small relaxed family here in England.

“Wow. So you grew up with you and your brothers and sisters in Italy?”

“Si, Mr. Radcliffe. My 2 sisters, 3 brothers and I all grew up there. I think the casting directors liked me because of my accent. Italian is my main language, English was my first foreign language, then French and German quickly after that. French and German were easy but English gave me a bit of trouble. So many rules, I could barely keep it straight, but now, it’s no problem as you can see- err hear. I took two baccaluareats: one in language and one in performing arts and I ended up choosing performing arts. However, I have a teaching degree in German, French and Italian when I’m done with the stage.”

“Wow, that is an amazing feat. I can’t believe that you’ve done all that I school and college. You’ve got everything mapped out for you.”

“Well, you always have to have a backup career lined up, just in case- especially with something like performing arts. There’s going to be an age where they don’t want you anymore- well for me anyway. I think you’ll be around forever.” Daniel blushed.

“Well, I don’t know about that one…”

“No, it’s most definitely true.” I said and we laughed. He would be so perfect for Lily…

“I was wondering…”

“Yeah?”

“If you wanted to come over for dinner. At my place tonight.”

“Um, Sophia, I don’t know how to say this…umm I’m not looking for a relationship right now-”

“What? I don’t like you anymore than a friend Daniel. I just wanted you to come over and meet my roommate.”

“Oh!” he said and turned a deep red. “Sorry about that. In that case, can I bring a good friend of mine?”

“Of course, we have the room and the food. Dinner will be ready at 7:30. Here’s the address.”

“Okay, I’ll see you there.” And I left the pub, letting my dark brown hair flow behind me. I couldn’t believe I was working with Daniel let alone, having him over at my house for dinner. And he’s bringing a friend. I guess I should definitely look nice tonight. I can’t for Lily’s reaction. Or maybe I shouldn’t tell her…
