Sequel: Do I Dream Again

Disregard the Lies

Apology

Sadie slowly made her way into Joe Louis Arena, wishing she could make it to the locker room without being noticed by anyone. However, halfway to the locker room, she passed Valtteri and Jonathan. Both men smiled to her and Valtteri gave her a wave, and she gave them a small smile back, her spirits lifting. Though, she still had knots in her stomach as she walked into the locker room.

She walked past Amber and Macy, ignoring the comments they were making about her, as difficult as it was since they were intentionally talking extremely loudly. She saw Kyra walk to her locker, and Sadie didn’t even attempt to make eye contact with her, knowing that she was still angry with her.

“So, Sadie,” she heard Kyra begin, and Sadie slowly looked over at her, worried that she was going to start badmouthing her like Amber and Macy were doing. “I talked to Hank,” she told her, and Sadie stared at her, waiting for her to continue. “I guess…what I’m trying to say is…Sadie, I’m sorry,” she finally blurted out, and Sadie’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“You’re sorry?” Sadie asked hopefully.

“It was wrong of me to accuse you of trying to sleep with Hank,” Kyra told her, and Sadie’s heart dropped a little at that was the only reason she was apologizing. While she was grateful to hear those words come from Kyra, she had been hoping that she was apologizing about not talking to her since the truth had come out.

“Oh,” Sadie said quietly, grabbing her pants out of her locker and putting them on. “Thank you for the apology,” she told her.

“That’s not all,” Kyra said, and Sadie turned her head to look at her, waiting on her to continue. “I’m sorry for everything. You know, yelling at you about the article, not talking to you, all the accusations, everything. Sadie, I’m sorry. I just want my best friend back,” she admitted quickly.

“Kyra, I just want my best friend back, too,” Sadie said with a wide grin as the two girls embraced. “But, I need to know something,” Sadie told her.

“What?” Kyra asked.

“Why the sudden change of heart?” she questioned. “I mean, two days ago, you couldn’t stand me, and now you’re apologizing? Why all of a sudden?”

“You can thank Hank and Jonathan for that,” she told her.

“Hank and Jonathan?” Sadie questioned. She knew that Henrik had been trying to convince Kyra to talk to Sadie, but she didn’t know what Jonathan had to do with it.

“Hank’s been trying to get me to talk to you since this all happened,” Kyra admitted. “And, I was nearly convinced, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. And, then Jonathan came over and told me that he had forgiven you and it was stupid that I wasn’t even talking to you.”

“Jon talked to you?” Sadie asked.

“Yeah, yesterday,” Kyra told her with a nod of her head. “He said you had come over to his place and you had talked everything out. And, then he made me realize how ridiculous I was being to throw away our friendship away over some stupid article that you didn’t even write.”

“Yet, he could throw away our friendship,” Sadie muttered. Kyra gave her an odd look, not hearing what she had said, but Sadie shrugged it off. “He told you all that?” she asked Kyra.

“Yeah,” Kyra said. “So, what’s going on with the two of you now?” Kyra asked with interest. “He wouldn’t tell me.”

“Nothing,” Sadie stated.

“Nothing?” Kyra questioned, and Sadie shook her head. “But, you want there to be something between the two of you, right?”

“Kyra, I love him,” Sadie said simply, surprised at how easy the words came out when she had never said them about Jonathan before. “Of course I want there to be something between us. But, he made it clear that that can never happen,” she said sadly.

“But, he said he forgave you,” Kyra said.

“He did,” Sadie said. “But, he said we can’t be together. And, he said he didn’t think he could be friends with me either,” she admitted.

“I’m sorry,” Kyra told her sincerely.

“Don’t worry about it,” Sadie told her. “I’m just glad that my best friend isn’t pissed off at me anymore,” she said, putting a smile on her face.

“I can’t believe I acted the way I did. Or that you actually forgave me for acting that way,” she added.

“I know you were angry and you felt betrayed,” Sadie told her. “So,” she said, trying to change topics. “What’s going on with you and Hank?” she questioned.

“What do you mean?” Kyra asked, confused.

“Well, he told me that he’s been trying to convince you to talk to me. Now, I know he was trying to help me out, but something tells me he wasn’t complaining that he had to spend more time with you while doing so,” Sadie said with a smile.

“Nothing’s going on between us,” Kyra assured her.

“Uh huh,” Sadie said, as the two girls made their way out to ice level to get ready for the game.

“Really, there’s nothing,” she told her.

“Okay,” Sadie said, still not believing a word she was saying. “Do you find him attractive at all?”

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“So, that’d be a yes,” Sadie said with a smirk. “And, we’ve both witnessed how great he is with Sophia. And, he’s just a great guy in general,” she added.

“Okay, it sounds like you have a crush on him. Why don’t you go out with him?” she asked jokingly. “Or not,” she said when she saw the glare the comment had earned her from Sadie.

“Think about it, Kyra. He’s like the perfect guy for you!” she exclaimed excitedly.

“In case I need to remind you, I’m out of the dating game.”

“No, you just need to find the right guy. And, in case I need to remind you, Hank’s the right one for you,” Sadie told her.

“Can we please drop this?” Kyra requested.

“Fine,” Sadie sighed.

Sadie waited for a commercial break, knowing that it was her turn to go out there and “entertain the fans” next. She watched the game, and she cheered when Chris Osgood made a spectacular save. The signal was given for a T.V. timeout, and Sadie made her way out to the ice. It was her turn to do a couple of figure skating tricks while a couple of the other girls, including Amber and Kyra, shoveled the ice up.

Sadie rolled her eyes when she skated out onto the ice and she could hear all of the drunken guys yelling about how hot she was. She couldn’t help but think about when she first auditioned for the Ice Girls and she had had to do some tricks in front of the players, including Jonathan.

She didn’t know who he was back then, but she knew he was attractive. She heard the same exact line that Jonathan had said to her, and she couldn’t help but laugh. She spun around, seeing a completely wasted guy, yelling at her.

She rolled her eyes once again, twirling around and doing a couple of flips. She saw the signal to finish up, and she went to do one more trick. As soon as she was about to leave her feet, she felt somebody run into her, and she landed on her back, smacking her head against the ice.

“Oh my God!” she heard Kyra yell, but Sadie was too out of it to realize what had happened.

“Watch where you’re going next time,” she heard Amber scoff, but Sadie simply shut her eyes, trying to get the agonizing pain in the back of her head to go away. She heard someone skate up next to her, and she could feel someone shaking her shoulders.

“Sadie?” Kyra called. “Sadie, are you okay?” she asked worriedly as she continued to shake her. Sadie wanted to answer, but she just didn’t have the energy to do so with the pain coming from her head.

All of the players on both teams stood at the benches except for a select few who were getting ready for the upcoming faceoff. All were watching on, wondering what to do. Finally, the athletic trainer from the Red Wings walked out onto the ice and over to Sadie. He pushed Kyra away, telling her to give him some room. She slowly skated backwards, until she felt herself run into another person. She spun her head around to see it was Jonathan, and she murmured an apology before turning her attention back to Sadie.

“Oh my God,” Kyra kept muttering under her breath, wondering if Sadie was okay since she still hadn’t gotten up off of the ice. Just at that moment, she lifted her head, and Kyra let out a sigh of relief.

“Thank God,” she heard Jonathan sigh in relief, and Kyra turned around to see a relieved look on his face. Kyra watched as the trainer helped Sadie off the ice and took her through the tunnel, presumably to the training room. Kyra quickly skated off the ice, pushing through all of the players so she could follow them into the training room to see how Sadie was.
